wonderful service

I was warmly greeting by the front desk. I didn't know who was cutting my hair, but when the front desk said "Hannah is phenomenal" I immediately felt comfortable with the stylist who would be cutting my hair. I've always had trouble explaining what i wanted. Hannah listened patiently and did a wonderful job.

Another thing that stuck out big time for me was the professional atmosphere. I have often been in salons where the neighboring conversation was superficial or gossipy. However, at Liz Russell I experienced a mature and professional atmosphere. It was easy to get to from my work in midtown, and easy to get home on across town.

Cheap Work, Stay away from Liz Russell Salon

I had such a bad experience there, the color done by Liz was awful, hard to believe it was done by a professional! I had to get it fix in another salon!!!!!!

they are also rude and arrogant, and certainly not the best way to deal with clients!

They will WASTE your time and money!

I don't even want to give a star. It was awful!!!!! They scheduled me a 9:00 clock appointment on Saturday. I was there at 8:45 with other guests waiting outside the salon in a freezing morning. No one show up till 9:28. And the only person showed up was a receptionist. They were very slow getting us ready. No one took my coat and asked me to change. Around 9:35 stylist started to show up and still looked sleepy and not ready to work. I had my make up appointment at 10 and engagement session at 12. They ruin all my morning and had wasted lots of money to cab around everywhere to get more time, because of their unporfessional service. I will not will not recommend anyone make early appointment with them. And my hair doesn't worth 135........ Awful!!! Painful!!! I hope the owner liz see this and do something.

Madion is fantastic!!!

When my job relocated to this area, I was looking for a new salon close by and decided to try Liz Russell. I love Aveda products and gave it a try. The first time I went in I just had a blowout and was happy with the results. I then decided to try Liz Russell for a haircut. When I called to schedule the appointment, I explained that I was new and asked who the receptionist would recommend. I ended up making an appointment with Chanel, who proceeded to give me one of the worst haircuts of my life. I was very disappointed. I did some research online and read about Madion. I decided to give the salon another try out of convenience and I am so glad I did. Madion is an amazing stylist, he listened to me and I walked out with an incredible haircut. Madion is very welcoming and I so enjoy going in to spend an hour with him to get my haircut. Madion is fantastic!!! So glad I went back!

Beware the witch at the front desk!!

I actually really liked this place, all the stylists were very friendly and my hair came out great but the girl at the front desk with the red hair is SO HORRIBLE that she just ruined my whole experience! As soon as I arrived she treated me with complete disrespect and was giving me dirty looks the whole time I was in the salon, she was also just VERY rude!!! Horrible horrible horrible woman!

Amazing Overall Experience

I was looking for somewhat of a makeover and happened to see other reviews of Liz Russell's and decided to give it a chance, I am so glad I did.

I was greeted by Meagan, the receptionist, a bright eyed beauty who was more than happy to direct me to Madion Russo, an amazing stylist who exceeded all of my expectations.

We started with a relaxing scalp massage, then a short consultation of what I was looking for and then the most amazing haircut I have ever had! I left the salon with a whole new outlook, feeling great and looking better than I have in ages.

Madion worked magic and styled my hair in such a way that even I can achieve the look on my own.

The energy and amazing attention to detail made for a most amazing experience that I highly recommend!!

If you are looking for a relazing and non stressful experience (not easily found) this is the place!

Run, don't walk and let them help you become the most amazing "YOU" that you can be!

This salon is very impressive. I was treated very respectfully and got a great hairstyle. I'm an actor in NYC and it's very important to look really great. I told the hair stylist I wanted to look like James Dean; After showing her a picture, she was able to transform me from lukewarm to hot! The place itself is beautiful which I think is very important to feeling good about a fresh look. I have lived in New York all my life and have never been as satisfied with hair service. I am now dedicated to getting my haircut only at Liz Russell salon. I appreciate their talent and recommend anyone that wants to look BEAUTIFUL to try Liz Russell salon.

OK Haircut - AWFUL Customer Service

7:00pm appointment

I arrived at 6:30.

by 7:15, after sitting in a chair while the stylists talked, I was approached for a thirty second consultation.

by 7:45, a young man came over and started aggressively touching me, which apparently is the complimentary shoulder massage. an introduction or a greeting would have been nice.

by 8:00, I had a very uncomfortable shampoo by the way the chairs reclined.

by 8:20 once my hair was mostly dry, she finally cut it, though proceeded to spend the entire conversation complaining about how tired she was and how she was mad they kept booking her late appointments.

by 8:50, I finally left, $85 later.

I will not be returning. I would have walked out but was almost amused at the lack of attention and service, or the fact that not one person apologized for having me wait while they were too busy chatting in the back (which is not as private as they seem to think - you too can be privy to several racist comments about other clients!).

Color disaster with Garik

Garik is not unskilled; he just doesn't seem to care all that much about what the customer wants.

I went to him for the first (and last) time for hair color, highlights, and a cut. While the cut was good and the highlights meticulously applied, the base color, which he'd described as "a mix of dark blonde and light brown," somehow came out almost black--so dark that the highlights got lost in it. With my pale skin, I looked like a Goth, or a witch, which couldn't have been farther from the natural look I had asked for. When I told him I was worried that the wet dye looked awfully dark, he just shrugged and said, "That's the color you're getting." (As a bonus, I also found several dye stains on my face when I got home.)

At the end of the cut, since I hadn't specifically booked a blow-dry, he had no interest in styling my hair ("just do what you usually do," he said--though if I was so happy with what I usually did, I wouldn't have been trying a new salon), and was perfectly ready to send me out into cold with sopping wet hair--except one of the receptionists look pity and got someone to dry it for a few minutes.

The dye job was so bad that I actually went to a different salon for color correction a few hours later. That stylist listened to what I wanted, and I'll happily go there again--but never back to Liz Russell and/or Garik.
