GET RIPPED OFF ON THE STREET!
by JennyOne at Citysearch
So, I bought this spa package "deal" from some guy named Kenny or Lenny or whatever, as he emphatically approached me on the street and told me he was hand selecting women to come in to his 4,000 square foot salon on 5th avenue. This was one of the worst choices I made since moving to new york. I was promised a "precision haircut" in addition to a European facial (which is more like 20 minutes of some woman grabbing at your face). He promised me wine and champagne as I was "serviced" but i feel like I was really just serviced by a persistent salesman out to make a quick, cheap buck. The stylist was mean to me when I told her I didn't want to color my hair and so I requested to speak to the owner, who told me that she didn't have much time as she had "other issues" to attend to. The massage promised to me was little more than a non-skilled kneading of my shoulders. Do not fall for this scam by Kenny or Lenny or whoever he is regardless of how persistent, unless you want to end up miserable and out $60.
- Pros: NONE
- Cons: SCAMMED OUT OF YOUR MONEY
do not fall for their promotions!
by radhikamuthye at Citysearch
it is really stupid to fall for the promotional discounts that these people offer.the guy who sold it to me and my friend did not tell us that they have some registration fees other than what you pay to him when you buy the coupon.he confirmed that we will not have to pay a penny when we go to the salon.we go there and the receptionist was not friendly, she said that if we do not pay the registration, they will not offer us the service!!!and that they cannot do anything about it.they asked us to call the guy ourselves and refused to negotiate anything.the owner is extremely rude......never go there...even if they would offer a good haircut, the service is such that I will never go there even if they give me their services for free......
- Pros: none
- Cons: service
good place, enjoyed my service

I enjoyed my experience here, i bought my promotion from someone off the street near Bloomingdales. I was skeptical about it reading all these reviews. My apt was with Asta, she was awesome. She gave me a glaze and a hot haircut. I would highly reccomend her. the only thing I suggest, take the first apt of the day. Mine was on a Saturday 10 AM, and I was taken care of promptly.
- Pros: Pretty darn good
- Cons: actually - nothing
I would never go here...
by limabeans at Citysearch
Some dude on the street tried to pressure me into buying a discount salon package. On the slight chance that he actually works for the salon--who would want to go to a salon that hires pushy, grubby looking jerks to promote themselves?
unprofessional

waited 40 minutes even though i had an appointment, didn't get what i paid for or even what i asked for and they wouldn't fix my hair to get what i wanted without charging me more, stylist overly pushed to up-sell, stylist left me sitting in the chair for 10-15 minutes at a time for no reason, etc. i will never go here again and i do not recommend that anyone else go, even if you have some "promotion" which by the way, is such a joke and a complete rip-off
- Pros: nice decor
- Cons: price, rude staff members
I actually cried the cut was so good.

My stylist was Celia. She was amazing. She let me know what was going wrong with my hair and she added the right color and gave me the right cut so that, when it was finally revealed to me, I teared up. I haven't felt this alive in a long time and I left the salon feeling happier than I've been in months.
- Pros: My stylist knew what I wanted when I didn't
- Cons: The decor is a little odd.
definitely glad I went

I'm not sure why everyone was so unhappy with this place... I also bought the street promotion and had my doubts after reading all these reviews.
When I first arrived, they told me the stylist who'd been recommended and with whom I'd made my appointment had called in sick (thanks for calling to let me know...) and I was annoyed. But they quickly paired me up with someone else (a man named Michelle) and he was great. More than suggesting dye/highlights I didn't want, he actually looked at my hair and color and recommended I don't color it until it starts to grey. Nice. I told him my hair had seemed really dry recently and he did an extra conditioning treatment for me, and the shampoo-er even gave me a nice neck massage while she did the treatment. He cut it the way I wanted, turned out great, and even took 45min to completely blowdry it straight (I have insanely thick hair and usually leave salons still half-wet). I think it's the best my hair's ever looked, definitely the best straightening I've had, and I've paid a lot more than this to have my hair done before.
Also - when I was there two girls came in who'd bought promotions for the second time. The receptionist first told them they couldn't use them because it's a one-time-per-person thing (clearly stated on the pamplet, btw), but when the girls fussed a little about how the street promoter didn't tell them that, she backed down, was really understanding, and allowed them to stay without paying extra. That's the total opposite of a scam, people. I'm sure I'd never be that nice if were running a business.
And I definitely don't work there.
- Pros: no pressure, friendly
- Cons: didn't confirm appointments
Best thing for your hair!!

I have been going to Celia Ayala exclusively for the past few years. She is truly an artist when it comes to hair. She makes it look easy! Not only has she given me expert cuts and styles, but also the highlights she has done look natural, fresh, and exciting. Recently, I decided to try Brazilian Straightening. I was very hesitant as there have been mixed reviews of the procedure. Celia answered all of my questions and carefully executed the treatment. I can't express how pleased I am with the results. I never thought my hair could be this soft, this shiny, and this smooth. It is now so manageable. I haven't stopped getting compliments!! This has been the best decision I've made for my hair and I couldn't have done it without Celia's skill and expertise!!!!
- Pros: Beautiful cut, AMAZING treatment, and GREAT color

Thanks guys. I got suckered into buying the promotional package from this guy Dave at Lexington and 57th for $50 bucks. Came home to read reviews abt it and thankfully am not even going to try it out. Why waste another 15-20 dollars for a trial and be disappointed? I will go back to the place I have been going to for 3 years: Hair Decor in Queens. Read up reviews abt it and you will find that they are professional and affordable.
- Pros: Love to read reviews before going
- Cons: Had to be suckered out of 50 bucks in order to learn
