Where have all the friendly cool arty people on the LES gone?

by bunny_otter at Citysearch

HERE!!! Really great crowd! Smart, friendly, fun people just talk to each other like it's a good party where everyone who's there knows someone who knows someone you know and like enough to go to a party they throw. If you are totally sick of LES-posers in Hell Square AND you know that being an snobby a-hole does not make you cool AND you're smart you'll fit right in!

disgruntaled bartender

by beefy123 at Citysearch

I was there in Friday. great tunes. fun crowd.... completley ruined by a real beeyatch bartender! i take offense to such attitudes because i worked in the service industry in NYC for years. I know it's rough but... come on!!! service with a smile goes a LONG WAY! It's not cool to be evil, sorry lady!

  • Pros: neighborhood, music, atmosphere
  • Cons: mean bartender!!!

Rude bartenderess

by misstexas at Citysearch

We sat at the bar and tipped $1 on a round of two drinks. This seemed to be on par with what the other patrons were tipping. The bartenderess picked up our $1 bill, put it back down, then proceeded to openly complain how people were tipping badly. Needless to say, we took our $1 and left.

  • Pros: artwork was okay
  • Cons: drinks are weak (not enough liquor), rude servers

A vintage-furnished bar with a shining reputation for not having one.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Scene
Located just below Delancey sits this sleeper of a bar, distinguished only by a pink neon sign. That's as flashy as it gets for this low-key hangout best known for its cunning ability to keep a low profile. Specialty drinks are simple twists on old standbys--the Lolita is basically a Sex on the Beach made with raspberry vodka--but the bustling happy hour and its potent frozen margaritas claim a solid cult following.

The Draw
Groups gather in the brick-walled back room, rearranging the furniture to suit their size. "That '70s Show" meets MOMA in tidy clusters of flea-market chic tables, couches and mismatched lamps. An impromptu game of musical chairs is often inspired by Danish Modern nuts who just can't resist trying out every last stylish seat. Couples, cozy in the corner, are bemused by it all--trading off turns to hit the bar for another round.

Good bar with great happy hour!

by nola2nyc at Citysearch

This place is a great neighborhood bar...any day of the week. Their happy hour is really good especially since it's all day Sunday!

They always have good music, and the atmosphere is comfortable and inviting. From the street it looks tiny, but there is a lot more space in the back and downstairs (if it's open).

I go here all the time, and my friends from uptown often come down here to start off the night at Lolita. This place is a lot cooler than many of the places on Ludlow.

Thumbs all the way up!!!

  • Pros: Great area, good music, happy hour

low-key hipster bar in LES

by bristoller at Citysearch

To those few of you who dislike this bar, the rest of us are better off. This is the most unpretentious, down-to-earth hip crowd in the city.

The atmosphere and conversation is always a thrill. Never over crowded and always a good time this is the neighborhood bar you all wish you had.

The music can be hit or miss depending upon the night of the week; the bartender's selection is sometimes a better choice

  • Pros: good prices, relaxed atmosphere, hip crowd
  • Cons: , needs steady DJ

Waste of Time and $$

Service was horrendous - one word: RUDE! On top of that, add horrible DJ and bad drinks. Not worth the time and effort to get to this dump!

Good Place to Chill

by jgv17 at Citysearch

This is a great bar to go to when you just want to get a table with your friends to drink and talk. Saturday nights, the musik is not too loud so you can hold a conversation and get a table. The sodas there are so flat, so I try to stay away from anything mixed with soda. Stick to straight-up drinks. All in all, I think this is a good place for me to have a low-key night with a small group of friends.

  • Pros: atmosphere, space
  • Cons: sodas

awesome!

by partygirlnycnj at Citysearch

This is the place to be on Saturday nights! This bar is always packed with ecclectic people who aren't ashamed to flaunt their "bling bling." I always have a great time here and look forward to every visit.

  • Pros: price of drinks, crowded, chill people
  • Cons: wait time for drinks
