Super "chelsea". I didn't fit in. The prices were reasonable for Manhattan. The food was pretty good, the service was OK - but the all-male scenery was very difficult for me to digest. I'm sure it had a negative influence on my experience. My 2c.

Pros: price, food quality.

Cons: slow service, stale beer.

I went with a co-worker for lunch and had a great meal. We both had salmon with a side of vegetables. It was fresh and cooked perfectly. They served fresh rolls to start the meal. It was very reasonably priced and the service was attentive. Highly recommended

We spent a Saturday evening there. It wasn't crowded and the atmosphere was nice. The service was ok, inspite of telling the specials of the day, he just refered to the board on the wall - we can all read ourselves! We had the Tuna. Not only given the fact, that we are in a seafood restaurant, the taste was disappointing. It wasn't like eating fresh fish as we had expected.

Pros: quite place even on a Saturday

Cons: taste of the food

If not for the friendly service this place should surely be sent to Davie Jones' locker. The "fresh" oysters were far from top quality. the fanny bays might have well been east river specials. The poor preparation of a simple snapper which was somehow dry when it was pan seared served with a pile of cold and bland mashed potatoes. Every restaurant has a bad day, but this customer will not go down with this ship!

Pros: Friendly attentive service, someone should steal the waitstaff!

Cons: the food was poor quality and even more poorly prepared

We had the pleasure of eating at Mare the other night.We started with the special fried sardines and seafood salad.The sardines came out perfectly crispy and not oily.The seafood salad was very good not over cooked and chilled properly with lemon and very little oil.I had the grilled salmon and it came out moist and cooked crisp on the outside.My friend had the halibut.It was tasty and well presented.The service was very attentive,I didn t have to ask for more water or bread.

Pros: fresh fish good service

We started with the seafood salad which was fabulous.The red snapper was large and full of fresh tomatoes,garlic,white wine,olives.The skate fish was sauteed with a lemon and wine sauce the best I ever had.The only problem is that the portions are big and the entrees come with alot of potatoes and vegetables and that leaves no room for dessert.

Pros: good size portions

We had dinner the other night at Mare.We ordered some oysters to start with,very chilled and plump.The crabmeat cocktail was a large portion.The entrees we had were the fishermens platter of shrimp,sole,calamari,scallops.I had the maine lobster broiled.All our food was very good.The service was polite and mannered.

Pros: good fish at reasonable prices

Cons: gets busy at the bar

I ate at this restaurant last night (6/22) and can say that it was the worst service I have had at a restaurant in Manhattan in a loooong time. And not only was the service bad, but they were totally unapologetic about it. We waited 40 minutes for appetizers, another 40 after that for our meals. I had ordered rare salmon, recieved it well done, and sent it back -- which is pretty normal, I think. My waiter came back and told me that the kitchen was too backed up for a new cut of salmon, and that I could either take my plate back or order something else, which I am sure would have taken another hour. When he grudgingly brought it back to our table he said "here is your salmon, no one has touched it" -- THAT's reassuring. Our second round of drinks that we had ordered upon receiving our meals just never came until I spoke with the manager the waiter said "I ordered them, but I never got them". When I spoke with the manager, his response was "The waiter told me that you didn't want to pay for the salmon, but you were going to eat it anyway. So now you are not being charged for your salmon, what else do you want??" For the record, I didn't eat the salmon, I ate the vegetables. I asked for my plate back because i needed to eat SOMETHING with my 3 glasses of wine (we had ordered a bottle at the beginning of this.) We sat at 9 PM and walked out at 11:42. I would charcacterize this restaurant and it's staff as lazy and uninterested -- they are resting on the fact that they are a Chelsea eatery and are busy without even trying, so there is apparently no need to try. The other food was great -- but I can get great mussels anywhere. If you feel like being patronized and ignored, Mare is the place for you. If not, keep walking - 8th avenue is lined with other places where they won't speak to you like they are doing YOU a favor by simply existing...

I was there with friends this past weekend. We had a wonderful experience at your restaurant. The atmosphere was lovely, the food absolutely delicious and our server, Dawn, was an added treat. She was attentive, creative and very helpful to our annoying requests. We had a memorable experience and will most definetely be back again.

My overall experience here is less than average. It was my birthday and there was a group of eight of us on a Saturday night. They were pretty busy, but we didnt wait long to be seated. Once seated, we had two different waiters/waitresses. This was the beginning of the confusion. While we were ordering, at least three main dishes were not available, which was pretty disappointing. The wait time between appetizers and entrees was over an hour. We were in the restaurant for at least 3 hrs. total. We were so anxious to eat, and when my dinner finally arrived, it was cold. I was really annoyed at that point. The food was good overall, but prepare to spend at least $75 pp. I felt as if they were not capable of serving a larger group. One waitress was kind, yet clueless. We were charged for two items that we never received, and the bill was brought to us before we even had a chance to order dessert. They voided the charge on the credit card and tried three times to charge it again without succeeding. At this point I had to have someone else pay the bill due to their ignorance. This also took over a half hour to settle. We weren't even offered anything or get the bill reduced after all that inconvenience. I probably wont go back, and I definitely do not recommend going on a Sat night with a large group.

Pros: good seafood

Cons: poor service, long wait for dinner, unavailable menu items
