My fiance and I arrived on Sunday at 11:15pm, my fiance ordered a martini with 2 olives. The bartender said that she threw away the olives since they would be closing in 30 minutes. He then asked if he could have a twist of lemon, to which the bartender stated she threw away all of the fruit as well. So, he got it straight up, fine, but for $12 - price seemed a bit higher than avg, but it happens and i can accept that, but hint after hint that this female bartender wanted to go home and have nothing to do with us was just too much for us to enjoy our drinks at all. She turned the lights up and THEN started asking for last call while we had full drinks in front of us. First of all, I was under the impression that this bar stays open until 4am - this is not the case at all, as we were forced out before 12am. Why would you throw away olives/fruit for drinks if you still have 30 minutes before this bar closes? We live in the neighborhood, and never had anything close to this happen at any other place. This bartender was so completely RUDE and obnoxious. Cant wait to never go back. Recommend any other bar in the area - just not this one.
Pros: Was close to home
Cons: Very RUDE female bartender

Female bartender REPEATEDLY cut off my songs from the jukebox. She had her own iPod and apparently preferred it. First off, rude. Secondly, just don't have the jukebox, or turn it off, if you don't like the music you have on it. It wasn't like I was playing ABBA on a loop. Just really obnoxious and I didn't appreciate the attempt to give me my money back as if that somehow justified the original action. I like the bar, but I don't think I'll be going back. Bartenders that look at their customers as antogonists shouldn't be bartenders. It's a SERVICE industry.

Makers has always been my favorite neiborhood bar, and now it has gotten a makeover. New floors, tables, seating and flat screen TV's. The best part is that they open up the whole front of the bar which makes it feel like you are outdoors. The same great staff is there and this is now the only bar in my neighborhood that I need to go to now.

FINALLY a neighborhood bar that meets all your needs. Cozy, comfortable and casual. Well made drinks; GREAT HAPPY HOUR 7 DAYS-A-WEEK/ALL DAY ON SUNDAYS! and $3 PBR BOTTLES ALWAYS! Sports or whatever on the 4 TV's; a level and well maintained pool table, Golden Tee Golf, MegaForce Trivia and an AWESOME JUKE BOX! It's a really good time offered by a staff that really tries to make you feel at home. This bar is definitely worth checking out! I highly recommend it to anyone THIRSTY for a good cocktail and a very friendly vibe!
Pros: COMFORTABLE/COZY, NO attitude, fun & AFFORDABLE
Cons: often busy

I don't know why the previous reviewer was so negative but hey for those of us that live in the neighbourhood, Maker's presents a comfy, verging on divey spot where locals congregate, where active pool table competition is on .. and the bartenders/owners ensure that you are a familiar face from the day that you walk in. The people that hang out there are extremely friendly and you're always made to feel welcome there at any time day or night.
Pros: Local crowd, Comfy atmosphere

Had a happy hour with workmates at Maker's. It's a great no-frills, no-bs bar smack in the middle of Manhattan. It's clean, nicely kept, with smart, funny and quite excellent looking bartenders. If you're looking for a place to relax, laugh, drink a little, hear some classic good music, play some pool, and maybe even hook-up with a local - you can't go wrong with this place.
Pros: company, bartenders, music
Cons: decor, food

An alternative to the dark Murray Hill Irish bars so common to the area. Drinks are cheap (there is tap beer, contrary to another poster's claim), but mixed drinks could be stronger. It's not quite as friendly as the Irish bars, not quite as pretentious/obnoxious as the other scenes further north on Third. Staff can be quite fickle; friendly one day, dismissive the next. Bathroom needs some work. The scene: a few too many "Sex in the City" types ordering their fancy drinks, though, and not enough people ordering beer.

I've been to Maker's several times and will keep coming back. It's a friendly atmosphere, laid back, a touch more elegant than a "dive" and inexpensive. Perfect for meeting friends. The bartenders are great!

As an ex Alva client I am glad to hear Chris is running the show. He made Alva back in the day but now that he has Makers there is no looking back. The action on Golden Tee is fantastic if you can get passed the regular foursome and the pool table has a competitive, friendly environment.

This place really was a great after-work place to meet friends. The people all seem to know each other so it's a bit cliquey, but the juke box is impressive and the beer is cold. It's also close to plenty of good places to eat.
