i've been to uncle ming's a few times over this past year, and everytime i go, there's a different vibe, depending on the people there that night. sometimes its more locals, sometimes its the girls from upper west side who took a wrong turn...my friends and i grab a couch, some drinks, talk, and listen to the eclectic music...we always have a good time. staff is always courteous, and the drinks aren't ridiculously priced, dim lighting is relaxing. be wary of the bathrooms...i've seen many people going in with some person they just met... all in all, interesting place, give it a shot.

Pros: ambience, bartenders

Cons: the stains on the couch...

It's def. a place if you are looking for a fight-club type bar where people are getting wasted and get in fight almost every night. Too many stories and to many experiences. Not sure what is causes but i suspect it's way to close to project buildings and some of the workers are hired from there ( watch out the bouncers! - couple years ago my one good friend got pushed from the stairs and it's on the second floor!). So go at your own risk. Cheers!

Pros: Design. Hip. people

Cons: Drinks, Owners, Bouncers

I've only been here once, so maybe my review is premature, but I REALLY don't see what the big deal is about this place. Yeah, it's cool that it's somewhat hidden, but does that really make it a good bar? The decor was nice but the place itself is small and mostly unoriginal. The crowd didn't seem that interested in being there either. It was pretty much one small rectangle with a couple of seats and a bar. Maybe if there was an event or a party or something, it could elevate the mood. I might go again just to give it another shot, but with so many places in the city to go (especially in this neighborhood) why would you bother?

Pros: I can't think of much.. the location maybe?

Cons: Unoriginal and pointless

Haven't been to Ming's is a while, but, I was invited there for a friends birthday last week. Though a bit rougher around the edges then it used to be when it first opened 5 years ago the place was still packed. The music was kickin and apparently girls get up on the bar and dance every weekend. One girl was dancing on the pole and her boobie popped out...lol. The place went from being a lounge when it first opened to pretty much an all out mini club. Some people complain about the music being too loud and arrogant bartenders. This is New York baby if you don't like it then go to the movies on Friday night! Hail Ming's...at least they haven't forgotten how to party over there. Did I mention the girl whose boobie popped out!

Pros: great music, cool staff, pole dancing

Cons: long bathroom lines

Hosted my graduation party at Uncle Ming's tonight. There were two bartenders working and they not only made my co-host and I pay for drinks all night, but they were also extremely rude. The music that they played on their winamp also SUCKED. I would not recommend hosting a party here unless you want to deal with bad service, bad drinks, bad music, and an overall bad scene!

Pros: Location, empty on a Thursday night if you want to host a party

Cons: Bartenders were rude, bad place to host a party, bad music

I went to Uncle Ming's for the 2nd time ever this past w/e and I don't know what happened?! We got there at about 10:00 PM and there were only 3 ppl in there total. The music was weird and the stench of incense was enough to say "I wanna get out of here!" UGH! The first time I went I had such a good time, the place was packed, the music was good, I had a nice time. I'm sure I arrived at around the same time I did the 2nd time. What went wrong?!? IT WAS BORING! NOT RECOMMENDED... sorry! :(

Pros: Very roomy, cool decor, clean bathrooms

Cons: Stinky lounge, music sucked, no people

I recently had my 25th birthday party there with about 40 people. The music was great and the drinks were super strong and cheap. The bar staff were fantastic and let me and my girlfriends dance on the bar all night. I would recommend this spot for birthday parties.

Pros: Hot Bartenders, Cheap Drinks, Strong Drinks

Cons: Long Bathroom Lines

Its a cool space - gets crowded but still pretty open. The two times I have been here, everyone in the bar was this anti-social ugly geek. I mean ODDLY so... NOT good looking people... this is on a Friday or Saturday night. Its an odd crowd here. Don't come if you are looking to meet people or even be friendly with the people around you.

Pros: good lounge space

Cons: ugly people, crowded, LONG bathroom lines

Great place to come with friends. It's not overly social here, which can be a drawback sometimes, but it's definitely a cool place to chill out. The bartenders are also really cool guys.

only down side is the area. Come in from 14th street or else you could be in trouble. No sign, just stairs next to a liqour shop. This place gets pretty packed and draws a wide variety of village heads and some preps. Decent music, all off an MP3's PC when I was there on a friday. Surprised they had no DJ's. I would return, and have, it's a nice chill place.
