Don't go for restaurant week

I went for restaurant week and should've known when we last mintue were able to get a reservaiton that it wasn't going to be good. It was very empty when we got there also. The food was just ok and the staff was almost too attentive, coming to the table every few mintues, which made us feel rushed. Overall, spent a lot of money on average food and average experience. They even gave us a coupon for $25 off the next meal. I feel kinda bad, just seemed like they were stuggling.

Great date spot!

I took both my mother and my boyfriend here for birthday dinners and the food and service were incredible! My mother got there before me and they seated her in a nice table upstairs (I called beforehand and told them it was her birthday). This is a huge deal because no one wants to keep their mother waiting. LOL

When my boyfriend and I went, we ordered a couple of the fantastic specials and they brought out a really cute dessert with sparklers. On both occassions, I didn't break the bank and both parties had a great night.

My girlfriend took me to Django for my birthday, but we never made it to the meal. They started off on the wrong foot by telling her that there would be a prefix menu when she called, but when we arrived, there wasn't. We were seated promptly, but our table was right on top of the people next to us. We basically felt like we had to share a table with 2 complete strangers for what was supposed to be an intimate meal. No privacy whatsoever. We were considering asking for another table, or telling the waiter/waitress that we were no pleased, but after 25 minutes passed without anyone coming to our table, we got sick of waiting and left. We went to the much more intimate Rosa Mexicana and had an excellent meal.

Acceptable, not exceptional

Django is a trendy restaurant, which in the modern tradition writes out checks it can't cash. Walking in off the street, one is immediately immersed in a sense of "S-x and the City" chic. The loud music, the bustling crowd and the fashionably clad hostesses are directly in your face. The upstairs section is more dinner friendly, but still far too loud. The restaurant is incredibly busy and it seems as if you have little hope of landing a table without a reservation. The waiter was friendly and the decor is quite original. The free pre-appetizer was very pleasant and it made us feel as though, despite the club-like atmosphere, this might be a fine dining establishment. However, as the dinner went on, we realized that this is simply a trendy joint which focuses much more on style than on substance. The appetizer which was said to include Transmontanus caviar, only included several of the coveted fish eggs for show, not for taste. The lamb raviolo was pleasant but the vegetables, with which it came, were very tough. The service started off efficient, but one the food was served, the waiter disappeared. We had to wait 40 minutes for our dessert. We had to jump up and down with our bill in our outstretched hands for several minutes before it was taken. Overall, I didn't like the experience too much and I doubt I will be coming back for dinner, although I might stop by for a drink.

Simply Flawless

Although I have read and can appreciate the other reviews on this site, I had dinner at Django this past Wednesday and it was FLAWLESS. Posed with entertaining one of the founding partners of my firm - an extreme foodie and wine connoisseur - who was flying in from Europe, I scrambled late last week to find something suitably impressive. I made a "safe" reservation at one of the best-known wine spots in the city (b-o-r-i-n-g), but then a very close friend mentioned Django this past weekend, swearing I wouldn't be disappointed. I mulled it over, canceled the othe reservation, and placed my bets on Django. All I can say is WOW. Maybe it was one of those nights where the stars align and everything turns out perfect, but then those rarely happen to me. I have to believe it was the combined work of the most knowledgeable sommelier I've ever met, Derek, and the chef, Andrew, who was charming and came out to greet us - which gave me a chance to thank him in person!

After mulling over the menu, we put our trust in Derek on the wine, ordered several appetizers and main courses, and let fate decide. Derek chose a champagne split to start, an obscure riesling with our appetizers, a stunning burgundy with the entrees, and some fortified wine with dessert that I regret not writing down. The food? The risotto was perfect, as was the foie gras, the tartare, a delicious branzino, and one of the best lamb dishes I've ever had. Capped off with a selection of desserts and some coffee, and if not the best, it was a contender for the best meal I've ever had (and I dine well regularly). Thanks Andrew, Derek and Django - you made me look good in front of my boss!!!

• Pros: Let the sommelier and the chef decide; you're in VERY capable hands if you do.
• Cons: The bar is noisy, but other than that, I really can't think of one. Sorry!

MEDITERRANEAN MEDIOCRE

Decor is trully fine, but aged. Service is on an amateur level, very agree with previous review. Nothing outstanding, lounge is probably good as a after-work drinks considering the neighborhood. A bit too heavy air-conditioning system, that's about it...

Disappointing Django

Its expensive but very interesting food. Restaurant Week portions are ridiculously small and the service tries hard to be nice but they're just slightly pretentious. The pre-dinner bread is phenomenal, I'd rather dine on that than deal with their presentation-flair happy entrees. I haven't left this place full yet, meaning there just really isn't enough food for me to eat here.

My boyfriend and I went last weekend. There was live music at the bar, which made our wait for a table wonderful (we didn't have reservations). The duck was unbelievablly mouthwatering.

Major disappointment

I'm always one to accentuate the positive, but after taking my wife to Django for her birthday dinner, I had nothing to say but my apologies. The decor was aged, the food was very average, and the wines that accompanied the 5-course tasting menu were mostly awful.

The service attempted to be accomodating, but was clearly amateur. Even the bartender made my Manhattan with Scotch instead of Rye or Bourbon. When I drop $250 on dinner for two, I expect MUCH better. Next time I'll stick with the tried-and-true.
