Better Chocolate Places in town

by lindsayalix

I thought Alice Tea Cup was a pretty cute place, but I still love Allison Nelson's Chocolate Bar for the best chocolate in town! Their new location in the West Village has a great nostalgia influenced ambiance with the BEST varieties of gourmet chocolates around! They just moved to 19 Eighth Avenue between 12th Street & Jane, NYC (West Village). Its a must try, I guarantee you'll love it!

Perfect Tea Spot

by holly1987

I absolutely love Alice's! I'm a big tea drinker, and I'm never disappointed with their tea selection. The scones are the best I've ever had, and the soups and sandwiches are all delicious. I also love to come here for brunch--the eggs benedict and French toast are outstanding. If you come here on the weekend, be prepared for a long wait (we're talking up to two hours), but they'll take your phone number and you can walk to the park or do some shopping in the neighborhood until they call you. The servers can seem a little frazzled sometimes, but I've never had bad service here. Even on the busiest mornings, they're always happy to answer questions and make recommendations, and I've never felt rushed. Definitely make a reservation if you're coming with a larger group, and if not, I recommend coming during the week, when it's less chaotic. Even if you do end up waiting, I promise it's worth it!

  • Pros: Great tea selection, delicious food, cozy ambience
  • Cons: Long waits

Cute little knook to relax and eat

by shopgalbda

I LOVE this place. Alice's tea cup is soooo cool and relaxing. I bring my neices and nephew here for breakfast and they absolutely love it. The food is great - a huge selection of teas (green, white, black etc). Try the hot chocolate - soo devine in cold weather. I like the eggs benedict and pancakes here. Also, the crepes are awesome. You can enjoy lunch here as well as they offer lots of tea sandwiches to choose from. One year, my neice celebrated her 5th birthday party in the back room. Her friends dressed up like princesses and had tea sandwiches and hot chocolate. They also had a face painter and a person dressed up like Alice in Wonderland to read stories to them. This place is amazing!!!

i came here on a saturday afternoon with my friends. (we made reservations before hand) not all my friends were there yet and they said we had to wait until the rest of us came (only three more ppl). plus they told us we had to wait for our table...an hour later we said whats up with our table- we had reservations. they said it is very busy we might have to wait two hours. the girl at the front desk didn't even seem to sh*t. we were angry complained and didn't get anything out of that!!

  • Pros: i like the fries
  • Cons: rather eat at the east side location

An english tea any time of the day in a nice and comfortable atmosphere

by shushorchid

Oh my goodness gracious, heavens to mergatroid and then some!!! This place is sooo cute and sweet!!!

On my first visit to the W73rd St store...on the recommendation of a friend, I almost missed it because you have to step down from the sidewalk to get to the door and I wasn't paying attention...silly me...I found it on my second pass though and had the best surprise as I entered...the beautiful aroma of fresh from the oven scones...YUM!...I love the inviting homey feel and the staff is so friendly too...! They recommended the pumpkin scone...ooh...I just have to say...to-die-for-yummy!...actually, so is the buttermilk scone...hee-hee...hard to make up my mind...

The staff also recommended a nice tea and the service is beautifully mixed and matched-cute and adds to the easy comforting ambiance of the shop...

A friend and I went to both 63rd and 81st Street shops on the east side and we haven't been disappointed...and those are a bit bigger and how it's presented...The scenes painted on the walls, the fabric on the seats, the color scheme...it's just so nicely done...there was a baby shower and a bridal shower going on in the back rooms while we were at the one on 63rd one time...the place is very suited for stuff like that...but boy-oh-boy, those yummy scones with the jam and the apple nutella sandwichs are just sooo right...!

Well...there's my opinion...when you try them out, I hope you end up feeling like I do...Five YUMS!!!...lol...

  • Pros: A relaxing and comforting atmosphere, nice staff, wide tea selection and nice food.
  • Cons: We've waited a bit on the weekend and some evenings, but mid week is usually a shorter wait...

Such a cute place!

by ReneeNYC1787

I love Alice's Tea Cup. I can't believe it took me four years to finally go since it's right around the corner from my apartment. And now I'm addicted to their scones...and their chocolate cake...and their tea. The only room for improvement that I see is that they should put in a communal table to perhaps cut down on the wait on the weekends....it can get pretty long.

Great brunch and daytime date spot

by albyatlarge

Guys: If you're looking to win over a lady on your first daytime date, this is the place to do it. The operative word is "adorable" -- think mismatched furnishings, kiddie murals and a whole lot of Upper West Side younglings underfoot. The tea list tends toward herbals and British varieties, but it's without a doubt one of the longest in town. And the food menu is appropriately charming -- don't leave without trying the French toast bites. If you can get a seat for Sunday brunch, you won't be disappointed.

  • Pros: Charming decor and clientele
  • Cons: Long wait, doesn't take reservations for parties of two or fewer

I LOVE this place! It's a jewel in the city!

by bacchante118

I LOVE Alice's Tea Cup. Starting with the adorable purple facade and little tea shop in the front. The magic continues as you are transported into the world of Alice in Wonderland, with quaint little wooden seats and tables and delicate china tea cups. Quote from the famous story by Lewis Carroll decorate the walls. You can get almost any type of tea made for you that you can think of, and I'm sure quite a few you NEVER thought of. Ask about the scones of the day, they are an UNBELIEVABLE indulgence. Tasty sandwiches, appetizers, soups, cakes, cookies, whatever you order, it is always yummy!

P.S. I recently brought a friend visiting from England there and he said it was the best tea and scones he had ever had! He couldn't believe he had come all the way to New York to have them!

  • Pros: Yummy food, huge tea list, great ambiance, try the scones!
  • Cons: It's a small place with not much seating, so if you come at a bad time, you'll wait a while.

Best scones EVER

by aquinn212

I love Alice's Tea Cup. My roommates and I go as often as we can. You won't have a better scone anywhere; they've ruined it for me having them anywhere else. Good service; the waiters always give good recommendations off their loooong tea list. Try it, it's really a fun place!

  • Pros: amazing scones, tea and service
  • Cons: long waits on the weekend; definitely go midweek if you can!
