Not worth it...

by luckylee at Citysearch

I live in EV and like to go out in LES once in a while. Heard good things about Belly and wanted to check it out. My boyfriend and I were extremely disappointed, the music was wayyy to loud, drinks not worth the money, and the atmosphere looked like a bunch of B&T teenagers. We left after one drink. A lot of other people were doing the same thing. The turnover was very quick...very few people hanging around. So, that's the reason it's not crowded. We won't be going back!

  • Pros: Cool tiny tables, Drink selection
  • Cons: Blaring music, No ambiance, Not hip

this is a great bar

by greenerthangreene at Citysearch

I finally went to Belly last weekend (after hearing about it from a bunch of friends) and I can honestly say that this bar totally lives up to it's reputation. The bartenders are really friendly with zero attitude, the bar itself is totally funky and fun w/a great vibe and excellent music (the DJ was playing funk, indie rock, etc.) and the prices were well below what you normally pay elsewhere. It's just a great bar - best i've been to in a long time

  • Pros: atmosphere, music, cheap
  • Cons: crowded on weekends

Over-hyped

by finddave at Citysearch

I read the reviews and went last night. It's one step up from a dive but with a lot of red. Boxes of beer are stacked against the wall, likely a storage closet. The radiator was at full tilt when I was there. Many better places on Clinton.

  • Pros: not sure
  • Cons: decor, heat

$2 shots---delicious, perfectly made shots along with one of the best gin n tonics ever!

Good DJ. Nice Bartender. Quiet enough to talk; enough space to fall off your bar stool!

Yay!

loved this bar

by bakergirl2005 at Citysearch

perfect blend of trendy fun but completely unpretenious. bartender was super nice and drinks were generous. this is a great bar to hang and talk with friends but isn't boring like so many lounges are, nor is it the type of bar where you have to stand all night and scream to have a conversation.

  • Pros: great vibe, good drinks, inexpensive

Great prices, great vibe, great time

by Clowwwn at Citysearch

This place is small and hidden away toward the seedier parts of the LES. Got here on Monday, few people, great place to chill and talk. Drinks were amazing, prices were refreshingly affordable--$4 happy hour drinks all night Monday! Music selection was impressive. Great for a date.

  • Pros: Drinks, Prices, Quiet
  • Cons: small lounge area

Former wine bar serves specialty cocktails that pack a punch.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Scene
This ruby-hued hideaway hosts a 30-something crowd of Lower East Side locals and uptown blind daters looking for an "offbeat" setting. Happily, the patrons at Belly are as well mixed as their cocktails. The rich red walls are offset by mod decorations that give the room a sensual, playful vibe; think Stanley Kubrick's vision of a rec room.

The Draw
A subtly swanky downtown spot where you can actually count on having a seat while you sip, Belly has perfected the art of the truly low-key lounge. Lush seating and tiny tables mean that both small groups and dates can stake a comfy claim here, especially if they arrive in time for happy hour. The friendly bartenders definitely know their wines, and are also happy to suggest specialty drinks such as the saketini, while dicing up nibbles--from savory sausage bites to Toblerone chocolate--to complement the cocktails.

Excellent bar!

by bellathegr at Citysearch

Great drinks at good prices, great music, and a fun bartender. Really good atmosphere. I was with a group but it's definitely a good date place. The crowd there seem pretty cool, a nice mix of people. Plus they have a drink that is called the "stolen from Schillers", the uber trendy joint up the street, that the bartender told me was too good not to steal the recipe. I prefer the Cuban Ice Tea, with mint, lime, rum and iced tea. Delish!

  • Pros: drinks, decor, atmosphere

great atmosphere

by ampentz at Citysearch

I went to Belly last night, and what a refreshing atmosphere to go to on a Thursday night. Unpretentious crowd, a chill place where you have the chance to talk to the people you're with. The bartender was very cool, too. Took the time to talk to her customers when she wasn't busy. Definitely check this place out.

  • Pros: Great Service, Relaxed Atmosphere, Not too loud
