BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE. I don't know if most of these reviews are by the staff themselves (you can usually tell when it's written as if it's an advertisement for the place which most of these on here are), but I have never received such a horrendous hair cut in my entire life (and trust me, I've received some bad hair cuts in my days). The haircut was so bad that they didn't dare charge me a red cent afterwards. Yes! It was that bad that even the guy didn't charge me. I walked in there with full set of hair and asked that it simply be thinned out/texturized, leaving the general length in tact. Whoever the guy was that cut my hair took out a pair of thinning sheers which I was comfortable with as a tool to thin out my hair (my hair grows so quickly that is gets "bushy" often so I am used to different thinning techniques). HE COMMITTED A CARDINAL SIN BY USING THE THINNING SHEERS DOWN TO MY SCALP INSTEAD OF (AS HE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN) ONLY USING THEM AT THE HALF WAY MARK OF MY HAIR. After 2 very short minutes, I now look like I lost my hair due to ilness and it's now growing back in "chunks." You can see my scalp all over my head with just chunks of long hair coming out. It seriously looks like I'm either losing my hair through some rare disease or I am just growing it back after a rare disease. I am absolutely devastated. I went to a very expensive "celebrity" salon here in Manhattan to see what could be done. Sadly, they informed me that it is so irreversibly destroyed that my only option is to shave it all off. She couldn't believe that someone actually took thinning sheers down to the scalp and did this to a person. Apparently anyone with an IQ above that of a toaster knows this. So now I'm left looking like a freak. My advice to anyone considering this place is to STAY AWAY!! If I can give you an advice as a fellow human it is that.

Pros: Inexpensive for Manhattan standards

Cons: hairstylists

A&R Hair salon, with 3 locations in Manhattan, can be called nothing less then a gem. Roger has been styling my hair for many years and he is the only man I trust (with his superbly tasteful and supremely competent professional opinion). Recently I tried color and highlights, again, trusting Roger's say-so, even though my inclination was to go with a different color. Once again, it was confirmed that the man was right! Fabulously transformed, I look younger and better. So - it is not all in your head - some of it is ON your head. If you are into pampering yourself and looking great - I just gave you a hint where to go ;-)

Pros: Unparalleled skill and creativity; very reasonable prices

Cons: None really; just wish it were a bit closer

Mike will do EXACTLY what I ask for, each time. If I feel like going crazy he will be completely honest and even dare to disagree with me, and justify why or why not I should go for a certian look. Always relaxing, great atmosphere, full attention and a lot of thought put into the haircut. It's been 2 years and I always come home with a huge smile on my face!

Pros: Skills, professionalism, honesty and atmosphere

Cons: can't get a haircut often enough

I made an appt. at AR Hair Salon, after a long and arduous search at Citysearch. I met with Roger, and immediatly I felt like I was in good hands. We spoke about what my options were with my hair and what he can do with the pictures I had brought in. I have never felt so comfortable in this intimate salon. Roger has been in the business for over 25 years, and really knows what he is doing and talking about, but more importantly he listened to me and addressed my needs. When left the salon I looked at my reflection in a passing window and almost cried, because this is the happiest I have been about my hair in about 6 months. Thank you Roger, I love my hair!

After trying 4 different high end salons in the city, I finally found AR hair salon . Arthur did my highlights and cut, were incredible. I get my hair done quite often without people noticing too much, but after this I had complements for weeks. Its been 8 weeks and my highlights still look great somehow! I've found my salon for sure! I HIGHLY recommend them.

Mike is terrific. I came to Mike with a very boring, blah haircut. During our consultation, he listented to me very carefully and offered some great advice. He is extremely meticulous, very patient, and has a great eye. End result, I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE my hair. Bonus, he is a great stylist too. Usually when I leave a salon, my hair is poofy and un-flattering and I go home immediately to wash it. He styled my hair and it looked awesome - totally natural and flatterring, I looked HOT! thanks Mike, you are awesome!!

Pros: Mike listents, meticulous workmanship, patient, pleasant to work with.

AR hair salon and the enitre staff is a must have in anyones life. I look forward to walking into the salon, being able to get my hair done, while hanging out with some amazing people. Mike is truly talented, he really listens to what it is you want to do with your hair. I was referred to him by 3 girls that religiously go to him atleast once a month. The ambiance is incredible and the cost is very reasonable. Look no more...this Salon will be your last stop for hair care! Bravo Mike!

went here today: the shampoo boy was very sweet and gentle. made sure i had magazines and even offered me wine. the stylist knew exactly what i wanted. yes i can recommend it

Pros: great location

Cons: they're not open earlier

I'm really mad!!! I went to straighten my hair like 10 days ago and when I washed my hair 2nd time, the left and right side closed to my face started curly especially the left side and as I went back to fix it; but it's totally not working. I've been straighten my hair in different salon for over 5 times and this is the worst experience I've ever had; I don't even want to go back to fix again. $700 is totally a waste!!!

I've been coming to AR HAIR SALON for 5 years. For much of my work life, I am at events where I need to look my best in front of clients and in the media. In that time Roger have consistently given me the best haircare of my life. From the precision and ease of care of Rogers's cuts, to the evolution of my haircolor, there is no better place to be. "Everyone knows your name" at the AR hair salon, but most importantly you get the sense that they care. Going to the AR salon salon is a welcome haven from the hectic pace of New York with all of the best that New York has to offer.
