Chain Restaurant Success

by iEatChino

Outback Steakhouse is one of the best chain restaurants around. The food is absolutely delicious, and I highly reccommend for everyone to try out their cheese fries. It's so good. Atmosphere is great, but the service is a little slow, but I managed to look past that because of the quality of the food.

Australian tchotchkes and brews give this quintessentially American restaurant a distinctive Down Under flavor.

In Short
Boomerangs, Aussie flags, kangaroo portraits and faux aboriginal art honor the homeland's wilderness, but Outback delivers a polished version of rusticity with varnished blond-wood booths with matching wainscoting and casually uniformed waitstaff. Besides more than a half-dozen cuts of steak, diners can pick from large-portioned entrees like ribs, chops and shrimp or chicken "on the barbie." The Bloomin' Onion, a large onion dipped in batter and deep-fried, is an appetizer with a following.

A good experince with good food.

by CaroleFagnn

I had a late lunch here today and while the food was very good, the service left a lot to be desired! The place was really not that busy and actually there was a lot of staff, however to get anyone attention, that was another story.

We started with the French Onion Soup , which was was very tasty. I had the burger and was pretty happy with it. They top it with Bree cheese, which was a really interesting twist. My friend had the slow cooked beef sandwhich and he was also very pleased.

I would have rated this place four stars, however the service was just not that good. A good experience with good food. Definitely worth a visit if you're willing to pay the price.

Awesome Eats

by chuck_connelly

I'm not one to eat at a chain restaurant, but the Outback Steakhouse has some of the best food around. The atmosphere is nice, and the price is not bad for Manhattan prices.

Like watching a close friend go insane ...

This Outback used to have PRIME filet on their menu. Back in the day, the steak was seasoned, seared and cooked to perfection. And well under half the price of any other PRIME filet in the city. It was the best PRIME filet in the city at the BEST prices. Unfortunately, first they removed the PRIME from the menu, and then they removed the BLACK ANGUS that replaced it. Their standard beef is, unfortunately, standard. What was previously a culinary delight is no longer available. Their new menu consists of items slathered with sauces and smeared with other things like mashed potatoes. Not fun. That aside, the wait staff is generally excellent and well trained, although one or two have fallen through the cracks. Unlike the pricey steak houses, their steaks come with all the "fixin's." The steaks are also comparatively inexpensive, even coming with "full menu" (salad, vegetable and bread) rather than a la carte, but the quality of meat is no longer what was once available. If you go, make sure to order their steamed vegetables with your meal as they are cut fresh daily and cooked properly. Their salads are very good and come with fabulous croutons prepared and cooked on premises, also on a daily basis. You will not have the atmosphere of Sparks, Uncle Jack's or Smith and Wolensky's (I have never seen unattended children run through those establishments like they were playgrounds, for instance), but obnoxious over-paid jewelry-laden Rappers and their loud entourages won't be "slumming" at a reasonably priced restaurant like the Outback, either. Highly recommended.

  • Pros: Good service
  • Cons: Occasional screaming children with inattentive parents, occasional loud parties of patrons who should not be allowed drink in public.

Brrrrrrrrr......its bad

by uesofficianado

On a recent visit to this restaurant, it seemed that there was some kind of problem with the heat. We could practically see our breath in the restaurant! Even the waiters were walking around shivering. When we complained to the manager, he assured us that he would turn the heat. What happened? It only got colder. I was so cold I could barely taste my food.... which I guess was a good thing, since it was so awful. The "prime" filet was rubbery and over-seasoned, the ribs were cold and salty, and the french fries were limp and soggy.

  • Pros: close to my apt, inexpensive
  • Cons: no heat, unappetizing food

SOLID & DEPENDABLE

by funinnyc

Friends & I have been to this Outback about 15 times this year. Always good service, always awesome food. Cheap drinks & beer. Waitress actually talks to you. Great place to go out before you go out for the night. No outside seating though. Manager has stopped by almost always to check up. Feels like the Outbacks at home. If those of you are religious to Citysearch like me - Outback should def be on your Sun-Thurs list & before going out list.

  • Pros: not usually a wait, great NY drink prices, dependable
  • Cons: , low music, dark
