My New Favorite Place
by e66st
I have been wanting to go to Supper for a long time but since it's not that easy to get to I have been putting it off. What a mistake - it is so worth a cab ride or walk to get to. We went a little before 8 and were told to wait in the bar next door - the bartender could not have been nicer - the wine was excellent and we had a little appetizer before going to the main restaurant. Supper is lively, so cozy with brick walls, tin ceilings and velvet curtains, and I would like to have the lemon spaghetti every day of my life. I will be bringing everyone I know here from now on - the service was excellent and the food even better. I can't imagine having anything bad to say about Supper - it's perfect!!!
- Pros: Bartender next door, food, coziness, everything
- Cons: It's far from my apartment on the Upper West Side
Always busy

This place is always pretty croweded for dinner so you have to wait at the adjoining bar which is usually not a problem but I was injured and had no where to sit for the 30 min wait and was obviously injured and nobody gave me their seat. The people can be kind of snooty... THe food there is amazing. It is better to go there than get home deliviery. Also, one of the best places I have been in the city for brunch. The french toast is AMAZING.
- Pros: great atmosphere and food.
- Cons: always crowded for dinner
Beautiful Room for 12!!!
by krystleee
I planned a dinner for 12 at Supper for a Saturday night at 7pm. At 7pm, 3 of our party had not yet arrived, but at 7:05, the hostess seated us anyway which I thought was really nice considering they are very explicit about their 10 minute table hold policy. But maybe they knew we respected their policy when we had our guests arrive at 6:45 for the 7:00 reservation.
Anyway, we were promptly guided from the bar next door to the basement dining room, back up the stairs to the main restaurant, to the rear dining room...2 friends and I were at the tail end and when we turned the corner in the reare dining room and didn't see the rest of our party we were really baffled. We were then told that our party was beyond the wine cellar.
I've been to Supper before, but never knew they had a back room and this huge, beautiful wine cellar. We walked through the wine cellar and through this door in a BEAUTIFUL private room. It was like a dining room set like none possible in an old tenement building. There was a beautiful long dark wood table for 12, 2 gorgeous chandeliers, damask wall-paper, a little bar, and our very own bathroom!!!
We were served right away. Our server was the most patient- we were a cackling group of 12 women excited about celebrating our friend's bachelorette party. The busboys were awesome, efficient and well-mannered. AND the FOOD was awesome.
Several bottles of wine, appetizers to share for the entire table, entrees for everyone and our bill plus gratuity (they didn't tack on gratuity!) was about $50 per person. This was a bargain!
We felt so lucky and special to have been dining in this beautiful room they put us in. It is truly the perfect place for a private, special dinner party!!!!
- Pros: Great service, food...beautiful space for a large party!!
- Cons: NONE...
Sweetest staff and best food in the hood
by babycat99
Supper is a real treat in a neighborhood where service has gone to s@#$ . The staff are soo nice and the food is soo good. I can't say enough good things about this place. I've taken many new New Yorkers there and they fall in love and they take THEIR friends. The polenta is amazing, the brunches are incredible (the French toast is to die for) I have all my birthdays and get-togethers at Supper and each time they treat me and my friends better than the last. Enjoy a little Supper anytime.
- Cons: The only drawbacks are it is hard to get a table at night sometimes
Still great food, Still great service, Still love it!

I have been eating at Supper very regularly since I moved to New York 5 years ago as I live in the area. So.. they don't take reservations - if you're having a big group of people out for a birthday - be decent and book somewhere else for your friend instead of being a cheap a@s and then complaining about waiting on a Saturday night in the East Village as one of the reviewers below states. Who goes out in Manhattan with a large group on a Saturday night for a special occasion without a reservation?? Duh!!! The bar next door is small, but if you are being served by the great gorgeous bartender Wade, you'll get a drink quickly and topped up regularly and you will be totally taken care of. The back-room is a little quieter but as for your chair being kicked as people go past to the toilets (as per another whiney reviewer..) the table for 2 (which I have sat at many times is in front of no more than 4 other chairs - so that's hardly the stomping crowd they mention. Michael and the other hosts are organised and just doing their job and have always been wonderful to me and my crew. The food is always fantastic and plenty of it - I always leave with a doggy bag. Service? What do you want guys? The place is busy, extremely reasonable - the waitstaff are there to take your orders quickly, get your food to you and if it's very busy, they often ask if it's OK to bring the check, so as for waiting for a check... purrrlease!!! The weeknights are definitely less crowded but the food and service is consistent 7 days a week. The downside of the weekends is that the WHINEY, COLLEGE BRIDGE AND TUNNEL KIDS are around. If you don't want a piece of Manhattan, stay in Bayridge so the rest of us can enjoy this great East Village restaurant.
- Pros: Great service, Great food, Great value
- Cons: Bridge & Tunnel Crowds Friday and Saturday nights
Don't get stuck in the back room unless you're in a group!

The food was great - nothing too fancy or flashy, just really tasty food with a "home cooked" feel. I had the mozzarella and tomato salad which was really fresh and delicious and then the gnocchi afterwards - real comfort food! I was a bit disappointed with my hazelnut pannacotta but I think it was really because I was just too full to enjoy it properly. The "by consumption" wine list is a brilliant concept as it means you drink as much as you want without the dilemma of whether to order a second bottle when you're just getting to your dessert...
The place itself ought to have had a great atmosphere as the decor is cool and you feel the buzz as you walk in, however, we were stuck on a table in the back room (even though we were there before 7) which was a bit disappointing. It would have been fine if we'd been in a group but with just two of us, we felt a bit out-of-it. Also, the table was next to the toilets and had a steady stream of customers and waiters squeezing past; even though I moved my chair to try and keep out of the way, everyone who passed seemed to manage to kick it which became quite annoying.
Our waitress was really nice - friendly and helpful and kept an eye on us without being intrusive however the same can't be said for the guys who topped up the water and cleared the plates. We'd be in the middle of a conversation and suddenly someone would boot my chair and shove a jug in between us....
I would go again and would recommend to others but would definitely hang on for a seat in the front of the restaurant - I get the impression that we had an unusually poor experience here.
- Pros: Tasty food
- Cons: The back room (unless you're in a group)
Italian Done Right
by dolcezza22x
First impression, Godfather meets vampire dungeon. And then you hear Coldplay, which is great yet having the occurring thought this is out of place. Front section of the restaurant has a lighter feel with 4 outdoor tables, and a bar table to observe cooks making your meal, very cool. Must mention, the waiter had a similar resemblance to Anthony Bourdin! Have the salsa cruda and calamari appetizer, you'll love it. And then share a 'Special of the Week' and a pasta dish, it`ll wash over you with content! I think that`ll follow nicely.
- Pros: Outdoor Seating, Wine, Service, Quick Seating
- Cons: Cash Only, Reservations Null
Love this place
by foodydoodie
I have been to Supper countless times since it opened and while I've waited and it's been crowded, the food has always been so good that I didn't really care. When a place is as consistently excellent and well priced as Supper is it's going to get crowded. That's the way it is. The food is well worth the hassle. The calamari is fantastic, the meat special no matter what it is is always delicious and the lasagna is irresistable. I love the vibe of the restaurant. It's so homey and rich with texture. It's just a great place to have dinner. I would recommend going during the week and not at prime time if you want to avoid the sardine hipster thing.
I adore this place.

I lived in Italy and this food is better. No other restaurant has so many simple wonderful fresh vegetables. Great pasta, great meat. The Rabbit on Saturday! Or the Roasted Pork....Nothing is better anywhere. I love the staff, I love the ambience The staff is often griped about but I find them lovely. Hard to get a table sometimes but we go early or late to avoid the crush. Hey, its just that good.
- Pros: Everything
- Cons: Too many hungery patrons...hard to get a table...but we go early to avoid that.
A great place for a great night
by jasperpope
We had a wonderful dining experience at Supper. The charming host delighted us with his Irish brogue as we waited for the rest of our party. We were a group of ten and were seated in the back of this very cozy dining room right next to a pretty walk in wine cellar. The service was excellent and very well timed. The food was a real treat...for appetizers our favorites were the fresh mozzarella which is not to be missed, the bruschetta was melt in your mouth delicious and the polenta was so good that everyne was fighting over it!. The entre of choice was the veal, it was pounded so thin, it looked like a stingray covering the whole plate. Supper is a great place for a great night.
