I had heard such great such great things about Thalassa, that I was so looking forward to my visit. We went a couple weeks ago before attending a show and we had the best time. We were seated right away and our waiter was very attentive and considerate to the fact that we had to get out of there on time. I ordered the scallop which was amazing, ordered a whole fish Lavraki (sea bass i think?!) melted in my mouth, had some delicious greek wine that they reccomended. The dining room is absolutely beautiful and it was one of the first warm nights we were getting in New York! Overall the service was great, the hostesses and waiters were all very friendly and welcoming. I will definitely come back a few times this summer and would love to try more of the menu...

Pros: amazing whole fish

Cons: Improve the music

From the moment we walked into this Great "Hidden" in the middle of the block in tribeca restaurant we love this place. The waiter encouraged us to Select our dinner & apps from the Fish display - full of Fresher than Fresh Seafood - Shrimp the size of a lobster, Langustinos, Oysters - Lobsters - Amazing Fish from Greece etc.. we had a Lethrini which was very tasty and cooked perfectly, The wine we drank was an awesome Burgundy & fairly priced as we noticed. The service was very attenative & Not over attentavive which could be annoying at other places - At Thalassa we did not get interupted we simply enjoyed our meal & will be back soon. The decor is very cool & tribeca like with great curtains flowing thru out the space & the bathrooms are spectacular & so clean & have Tocca candles that smell so incredible. They deffinately pay attention to all the details.

Went to Thalassa last night for my birthday; I have to say it was the worst service I have ever experienced. Upon arrival, the bar was deserted with no bartender in sight. It was a good 5+ minutes before one appeared. We ordered a manhattan straight up and a cosmopolitan while waiting for our third person; the bartender could not find the vermouth for the manhattan and was not sure what was in the cosmopolitan. Once we were seated at our table, it was another 10+ minutes before a waiter came over with the menus. We then ordered another round of drinks. After a good 20 minutes, he came back with a cosmopolitan (but not the manhattan), and instead of using vodka, it was made with whiskey. The waiter never came back, but the bartender came over after 10+ minutes to see if the drink was ok; we then told him the problem with it and returned it (maybe he saw we were not drinking it, or realized he made it incorrectly). When they came back with this new round of drinks, instead of a manhattan straight up, we were given whiskey on the rocks. And instead of a cosmpolitan, it was cointreau and cranberry straight up (no vodka or lime juice). I do have to say the food was very tasty (but not incredible). The restaurant was not busy at all, but we left there feeling very ignored - from not bothering to make the drinks right, to not coming over to the table much at all to check on us (we were getting ready to leave when they brought the menus over); we were never asked how the food was. You can get better service at McDonalds.

Pros: Seafood was good

Cons: Service was inept

My wife and I went to Thalassa recently and had a wonderful time. Delicious seafood dishes were prepared perfectly. They had a very nice wine list and the service was excellent. I also must mention that the ambiance was very nice making for a great night out with my wife. Highly Recommended!

Pros: Seafood, Service, Wine

I went there last wednesday with couple of friends and we were all disapointed. İt took the waiter 20 minutes to get our orders although it wasn't too busy the food was OK but overpriced.

I celebrated my husband’s birthday with a party in Thalassa’s private wine room. The quality of their seafood and their service was outstanding. Most important, our guests had a great time. I had read great reviews of this place but this evening was above and beyond my expectations. Thank you for making my husband’s 40th a memorable experience.

Pros: Everything

Cons: None

This being my first review on Citysearch, I felt I had to let others know of the truth behind the fascade of beautiful decor at Thalassa. First off: the service was AWFUL, I have never been to a restaurant of that caliber and receive such bad service. Our maitre'd just had no ettiquette at all, kept trying to convince my party of 4 that we shouldn't have what were ordering, kept pushing the "market price/p/lb." menu; finishes off by saying I'm going to ask for the smallest piece from the chef because it's too large. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, I even corrected him by saying we were hungry, etc. He said he understood. Our appetizers took an unusally long time, mind you, the place was not overtly busy. My salad was tasteless, I was practically choking on it due to the lack of "honey dressing" they claimed was on it, however there was none. Our turbot was brought out and it didn't look like what was on the menu. When I inquired, he, the annoying waiter, gave us the turbot by the POUND, when we had ordered the one on the entree menu. I couldn't believe how he didn't understand that we wanted the entree, considering I pointed to it on the menu. Mind you, the turbot was terrible, practically falling apart on the plate. We decide that they will give us the sides in a separate dish. When this arrived it looked a lump of leftovers from the kitchen. Just bottoms of artichokes, and slices of carrot and heaven knows what else in a tasteless broth, ughhhh, it was just disgusting. My friend had requested the rissoto with just "two shrimps & 2 scallops on top". What came out on the plate was a whole other story, these 2 IMMENSE shrimps, literally the size of someone's head and some foreign matter whilst she was cutting them open. The bill arrives and of course everything is by the pound, which I thought inconsiderate since he made the mistake. Normally I complain, but we all couldn't wait to get the hell out of there. Worst dining experience EVER in NYC.

Pros: Ambience

Cons: Horrible Service, Tasteless food, Expensive

I have been several times, as I live in the neighborhood, and every time I have really enjoyed my food. The atmosphere can border on dull sometimes, it doesn't feel very busy even when every table has a customer, but the service and the food more than make up for it. I actually enjoy the appetizers much more than the entres, and I found the feta stuffed calamari to be the most memorable part of the meal. Also, I want to note that I am always very impressed with the service. I could see the waiter, bussers and maitre d all keeping eyes out for all of the guests. If you are looking for a Greek restaurant with gyros and taziki sauce, then this would not be the restaurant for you. But if you want great, fairly simple, food then I would definitely recommend Thalassa to you.

Pros: appetizers, service and greek wine selection

Cons: the ambience is kind of dull

This Valentine's Day I was to propose to my girlfriend, so I needed to make sure that everything was perfect. From the moment we walked into Thalassa, I knew that I had made the right decision. The ambiance was nothing short of enchanting, from the flowers on the table to the stunning decor of the space. The food was sublime, every course was beautifully presented and tasted exquisite. They also had a pianist and cellist for that night that really added a special touch to our magical evening. I proposed, she accepted. We would never forget this evening.

Pros: Great Space, Great Food.

Cons: none

We called at 8:45 on Friday and got a table for two at 9:00pm. The service was great, complimentary appitizers were given before we had even seen the menue. Overall it was a three hour (!) dinner that seemed to fly by, delicous food. The dover sole was very tastey.

Pros: Ambience
