Great cut and color
by CurlyGirl at Citysearch
I had been getting haircuts at Ouidad for years, but I was very tired of the experience there. The cut had become a little stale and I just didn't feel like they were hearing me when I asked for something different. When I met a woman on a flight who had a cut that I liked, she directed me to Christopher Stanley.
Well...what a change! First, I got a great curly hair cut from Mauricio. My hair is now super bouncy, filled with life, and I get a ton of compliments. I went in two weeks later to get my color done by Peter, and that was just a lovely experience. He listened to what I wanted, took his time giving me a beautiful, multi-tonal color, which actually serves to complement my haircut. I feel great and I honestly can't wait to go back.
- Pros: Nice people, good cut, not a terrible price for NY
- Cons: N/A

BEWARE
by jennr123 at Citysearch
Please think twice before booking an appointment at this salon solely based on the reviews here. This is what I did and I will be regretting it for the next five years until my hair completely grows out. I only found out after the fact that you get a discount if you write a review on Citysearch. I should have thought about it more clearly and realized that all the people writing reviews about how great Christopher Stanley is have never written a single review before and obviously were only compelled to do so based on the fact that it is saving them money. This is not to say that absolutely none of these people are actually happy with the results but I am merely pointing out that it is clearly not just their sheer love of the service they received that has pushed every single person to write a glowing review. I went to this salon because I foolishly believed that all these reviews were genuine and I could not be be more upset with myself. My hair color is ruined. I asked for highlights and have ended up with zero trace of my base color- and if that was done to make it look natural- that approach was a complete failure because my hair is beyond streaky. It looks very un-natural. I can't even begin to imagine the maintence that I am going to have to deal with while this grows out. To make matters worse, my hair is totally breaking. Prior to coming to this appointment my hair was in pristine condition. I get bi-weekly moisturizing/conditioning treatments at a salon and deep condition as often as suggested for my hair- using only the finest products. However, now my hair is breaking- especially in the part that the WAY TOO LIGHT highlights were put in. Also, I am the first one to point out that girls can exaggerate at times and can believe things are worse that they are but when you actually have men at work asking you what the heck happened to your hair, you know it ain't good!! Given just how bad my results were- I would not at all be comfortable with going back to this salon to fix this. With that said, I had to go back to my very reputable salon in NYC that I have been going to for years and only diverted because I was floored with the amazing reviews here and didn't want to be missing such a great thing (boy was I wrong). Anyways, when I showed up at my salon and saw my stylist- I was sick when I saw her first facial reaction. She was mortified. - I could tell she felt horrible for me. She was professional as possible but couldnt believe someone would choose the color that was put on me (awful tone for my skin & makes me look sick) and leave it as streaky as it is and then completely alter my base when I have such a great natural color , especially given the fact that I went in and specifically said that I just wanted to enhance things a bit with a sun-kissed look. I wish I could turn back the clock and have my hair back to the way it was, but I can't. The best thing I can do is make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else. If you feel you just need to give this place a try, maybe you should go for a consultation here and a few other places so that you can make a more informed decision instead of being drawn in by all the positive reviews.
Great Place
by pelham456 at Citysearch
While I may not have written many citysearch reviews I can vouch for the high ratings that Christopher Stanley recieves. After living in nyc for over three yrs I was still going back to Boston to get my hair cut. Finally, after realizing I was being ridiculous, I began searching for a new place to go. I origionally tried out the CS salon because I was impressed with the comments on city search. Mauricio is amazing. My first appointment was about a year ago and I have gone back ever since -- Mauricio is the only hairdresser I have ever had where I constanty get complimented on my cut.
Something fishy with reviews.

I was reading reviews here and found it strange that most the reviewers had written only one review.
The last highly reviewed salon I went too made my blonde hair yellow ! This salon also had 400+ positve reviews. Dont trust these reviews!
- Pros: Many Reviews
- Cons: Cant be trusted

Karen Is The Best
by PrettyGrrlNYC at Citysearch
I've been to many colorists in the city and I have to say Karen is the best. My highlights are bright, but natural and full of subtle dimension.
Karen is confident and fun and knows exactly what would look best on you.
- Pros: Excellent Color, Great Salon
I Heart Peter and Stanley
by DANIGLO at Citysearch
I travel for these two men... and it's worth the time and the money. Not only are they talented but they are a wonderful team of love and humor. I know that should not be a part of why we go to our hair people, but it is such a big part of what these two men and this salon is all about. Talent and artistry beyond belief and then I receive warmth and wit on top of it all... it's a package I just cannot do without. Thanks for all you do Stanley and Peter... you'll never know how good you make me feel and how long it lasts... cut, color, heart and soul.
- Pros: Stanley and Peter make me smile!!!
- Cons: They are in another state
