Best Mexican Food in NYC
by AlicaNYC123
My friend and I were looking for something different for dinner (and I was craving Mexican food). Well, what a find we found…Itzocan is a phenomenal. The French touch on the Mexican cuisine is so unique. We were impressed by the service and the price is right! It is not BYOB – however, you must try the Sangria – and they have a nice selection of Mexican beers. I have been back for brunch and dinner…both are delicious. I am going to be returning, frequently! GO!
- Pros: tasty!
Great Taste Makes You Keep Coming Back For More!!!
by ska62491
I've eatten in this resturant a couple of times, I've enjoyed every dish on the menu but my favorite in the lunch menu is burrito verde. For the dinner menu to start off as a appetizer I would recommend Huitlacoche Souffle really delicious Yum!! We ate Filet Mignon which was done really good. I enjoyed every taste of it. The atmosphere even though it's small great enviroment makes you feel at home. The chef and waiters are great. They are very are out going. People complain about price but the price is right! ^-^
- Cons: Parking

Great Mexican food, it has a french twist to it. Tiny little restaurant but it's not the size that counts it's how you use it, LOL...... not really this place has great food and just the right amount of selection. I really liked the dumplings and queso.
- Pros: Affordable
Best Mexican....

This is not your typical tex-mex place they have everywhere, it is very unique. Even the staff is so unique because they are actually friendly. All I have to say is you must try this little place and order the Queso Fundido!!!! Enjoy!
- Pros: Very affordable
- Cons: A little tiny
Overall....

I went to eat at this restaurant in which I was recommended. I have tried the Chicken with Three chile sauce and it was phoenominal. The pumpkin brulee tart has been one of the greatest desserts, the chef came out to see if me and my group were fine. The waitress and chef were great people it made me feel like I was right at home. Such great people, great food and great service. I recommended people to try this restaurant and try out the specials they are to die for.
A good Friday night
by cafecito
I went to Itzocan Cafe recently this past friday with a couple of friends and me and my friends have tried one of the best steaks in months. This average little restaurant is not just about Mexican food but it is also a mixture of French cuisine. I personally know a bit about food myself and I can tell you this much this small neighborhood restaurant is one of the best Mexican/French restaurants I have ever been too. I recommend people to go and ask for the specials they are the most authetic and delicious entrees I have ever tried. I recommend a nice Wild Mushroom Ragout or Duck with Rioja Apricot Sauce. Overall this small neighborhood restaurant is recommended.
- Pros: Service
- Cons: Parking
The reviewer must have been bribed

The restaurant was incredibly overpriced, the food was bland, the presentation was mediocre (they had a souffle which turned out to be a grey flan). Incredibly disappointing. Whoever reviewed the restauarant for Citisearch must know absolutely nothing about Mexican food.
- Pros: Quaint, small place
- Cons: Very mediocre food at a very expensive price.
Inaccurate prices, substandard food
by jdbaron
We went to this restaurant last night for dinner, and my feelings about the food aside, the prices listed online are NOT accurate. All appetizers were 8 or 9 dollars, and the range of main dish prices were 18-23 dollars. The flank steak was $22. The chicken was $18.
Don't let the small selection fool you into thinking they adjust their menu based on season - they do not. All selections were winter appropriate, not appropriate for a hot summer's night. The restaurant was poorly air conditioned, so it was stiflingly hot during the meal.
Was the food edible? Perhaps. But, as someone who lived in Mexico for a year (and who is a frequent cook of authentic interior Mexican food at home) I assure you that this is not authentic at all. The food was simultanously overseasoned and bland (how you say? it's really difficult, but they managed it), and each dish relied too much on thick, viscous sauces to mask the main attraction (meat, dumplings, mushrooms - all doused in soupy, overpowering sauces).
If you are looking for authentic mexican, try someplace else. If you are looking for an affordable restaurant, try someplace else. If you are looking for a comfortable restaurant to meet friends, try someplace else. Bottom line? You get the picture.
- Pros: Can't think of one
- Cons: Overpriced, overheated, overseasoned, overjoyed to have left
