This tiny place is a real NY find. The food is out of this world, the service is friendly, and the sangria is the best I've EVER had - and I've sampled quite a few.

My friend and I were looking for something different for dinner (and I was craving Mexican food). Well, what a find we found…Itzocan is a phenomenal. The French touch on the Mexican cuisine is so unique. We were impressed by the service and the price is right! It is not BYOB – however, you must try the Sangria – and they have a nice selection of Mexican beers. I have been back for brunch and dinner…both are delicious. I am going to be returning, frequently! GO!
- Pros: tasty!

I've eatten in this resturant a couple of times, I've enjoyed every dish on the menu but my favorite in the lunch menu is burrito verde. For the dinner menu to start off as a appetizer I would recommend Huitlacoche Souffle really delicious Yum!! We ate Filet Mignon which was done really good. I enjoyed every taste of it. The atmosphere even though it's small great enviroment makes you feel at home. The chef and waiters are great. They are very are out going. People complain about price but the price is right! ^-^
- Cons: Parking

Great Mexican food, it has a french twist to it. Tiny little restaurant but it's not the size that counts it's how you use it, LOL...... not really this place has great food and just the right amount of selection. I really liked the dumplings and queso.
- Pros: Affordable

This is not your typical tex-mex place they have everywhere, it is very unique. Even the staff is so unique because they are actually friendly. All I have to say is you must try this little place and order the Queso Fundido!!!! Enjoy!
- Pros: Very affordable
- Cons: A little tiny

I went to eat at this restaurant in which I was recommended. I have tried the Chicken with Three chile sauce and it was phoenominal. The pumpkin brulee tart has been one of the greatest desserts, the chef came out to see if me and my group were fine. The waitress and chef were great people it made me feel like I was right at home. Such great people, great food and great service. I recommended people to try this restaurant and try out the specials they are to die for.

I went to Itzocan Cafe recently this past friday with a couple of friends and me and my friends have tried one of the best steaks in months. This average little restaurant is not just about Mexican food but it is also a mixture of French cuisine. I personally know a bit about food myself and I can tell you this much this small neighborhood restaurant is one of the best Mexican/French restaurants I have ever been too. I recommend people to go and ask for the specials they are the most authetic and delicious entrees I have ever tried. I recommend a nice Wild Mushroom Ragout or Duck with Rioja Apricot Sauce. Overall this small neighborhood restaurant is recommended.
- Pros: Service
- Cons: Parking

The restaurant was incredibly overpriced, the food was bland, the presentation was mediocre (they had a souffle which turned out to be a grey flan). Incredibly disappointing. Whoever reviewed the restauarant for Citisearch must know absolutely nothing about Mexican food.
- Pros: Quaint, small place
- Cons: Very mediocre food at a very expensive price.
Inaccurate prices, substandard food

We went to this restaurant last night for dinner, and my feelings about the food aside, the prices listed online are NOT accurate. All appetizers were 8 or 9 dollars, and the range of main dish prices were 18-23 dollars. The flank steak was $22. The chicken was $18.
Don't let the small selection fool you into thinking they adjust their menu based on season - they do not. All selections were winter appropriate, not appropriate for a hot summer's night. The restaurant was poorly air conditioned, so it was stiflingly hot during the meal.
Was the food edible? Perhaps. But, as someone who lived in Mexico for a year (and who is a frequent cook of authentic interior Mexican food at home) I assure you that this is not authentic at all. The food was simultanously overseasoned and bland (how you say? it's really difficult, but they managed it), and each dish relied too much on thick, viscous sauces to mask the main attraction (meat, dumplings, mushrooms - all doused in soupy, overpowering sauces).
If you are looking for authentic mexican, try someplace else. If you are looking for an affordable restaurant, try someplace else. If you are looking for a comfortable restaurant to meet friends, try someplace else. Bottom line? You get the picture.
- Pros: Can't think of one
- Cons: Overpriced, overheated, overseasoned, overjoyed to have left
VASTLY OVERRATED

My friend is from Mexico City so after reading the reviews on Citysearch, this sounded like a great hole in the wall spot to take him for authentic Mexican. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. This place is indeed a tiny place that serves "Mexican". However, what it lacks is decent Mexican cuisine, any semblance of decor, sound quality, internal cooling and comfort. It is actually a bit depressing inside - there is a Mexican waitress who oversees all of the 5-6 tables and one chef and she is so overworked we felt very badly for her. There is no decor - old wooden tables that are so close together there is no privacy and not in a kitschy, clever way - and the lighting is yellowed and looks like it's from a bad E. Village apt. There is one delapidated speaker overhead that plays fuzzy Mexican music w/ the worst sound quality I've heard in a restaurant.
The food - not good. The guacamole was the best thing we tried. The goat cheese ravioli was hard (yes, hard), my friends' duck was drowning in sauce and my quesadilla looked suspect and was drenched from cheddar cheese oil. After about an hour there we decided to abandon our meals, pay and go eat somewhere else. This was a first after 8 years in NY. Our waitress was very sweet though.
If you live on the block and are hard up for quasi-Mexican food, consider this place if you're prepared to be underwhelmed. If you're looking for quality Mexican, check out Mexicana Mama, Rosa Mexicana (commercial, but excellent food) or Barrio Chino.
- Pros: Sweet Waitress
- Cons: Food, Space, Heat, Music, Decor
