Great Live Misic Venue!
by sensorburn
Since the recent change in management Rare has become a hot spot for live bands and the NYC underground. With a new sound system, video projection and several TV screens around the club, this venue will be an exciting multimedia hangout in the meat packing district.
- Pros: Plenty of Space, Great Staff, Good Sound
- Cons: , Zebra Stools

Awesome atmosphere. Go for the bands--they're definitely worth it. And the Irish D.J. was way hot;)

Bands and babes in the Meatpacking District.

The Scene
This multi-room lounge offers a red and black backdrop to suit any crowd with a few zebra-patterned accents thrown in. It attracts indie rockers in geek-chic specs and blow-dried girls in strappy black tanks, plus a rotating audience, depending on what's on tap in the performance space.
The Draw
Entertainment includes eclectic live music, open mic nights and a motley assortment of DJs. There are plenty of couches for relaxing, and even a TV monitor in the bar so you can avoid the crowd and still keep an eye on the stage. Exclusive types will flock to the large VIP room, secluded behind a heavy velvet curtain.
Terrible Service, Depressing Ambiance
by mgold
Wow. I have never received such terrible service from any bar/club/lounge before in my life. The owner/head bartender was the biggest sleezeball...especially considering we brought approx 150 people to the bar for a birthday party, which is about 142 more then they've ever seen before. Since you're in the meatpacking industry already, try one of the hundred other places that I guarantee will show you a MUCH better time. I'd be shocked if this place stayed around for even another month or two.
- Pros: none
- Cons: Horrific service, Depressing Ambiance, Discordant Music
