Wax On!
by ProfSexyTights at Citysearch
I've taken advantage of bikini waxes, mani, pedi and massage. The waxing is great. The women are fast, efficient, and painless. I've waxed twice with different techs each time; very good. The pedis are my next favorite. They consistently do an awesome job. I have excellent feet and nails, so I'm rarely impressed with manis. They did a fine job. That said, I once decided to do a chair massage--I do not recommend this. They do not appear trained; and had little knowledge about the musculature of the human body. They clean the salon religiously!
- Pros: excellent waxing services, super clean, great mani/pedis
- Cons: awful massage services
good waxes

i give pastel a top-rating for their waxing services. i've gotten pedicures there too, which have all been fine (not earth-shatteringly wonderful, but certainly not disappointing). i've gone to pastel over two-dozen times, and have probably only had the same waxer once or twice, yet some how all the women there know how to wax quickly, effectively, and properly. i have lived by the beach in california and in florida, and all the places i tried there are terrible by comparison. in my opinion, this is a perfect place to get a brazilian/bikini and underarm wax (i've never been burned, which can happen easily with under-arms). my only complaint has to do with one of their four rooms-- it's like the size of a closet. i'm really tall, so maneuvering on a table that's pressed up against 2 spartan walls was annoying. but, as i said, i've only been put in that room once, and i'm sure the staff would've offered to change rooms had i complained. waxing is never pleasant, but pastel certainly makes it tolerable, and the results are great. i hope you have a good experience too.
- Pros: fast, friendly, efficient, painless (as possible, anyway), and clean

Pointless polish and nothing else
by LadyMildmay at Citysearch
i could have done a better job at home. it took nearly 2 hours to get my finger nails and toenails painted and some cream put on my feet... I have really rough heels! they need attention.
my manicure was so pointless - my nails are wonky and there is dirt under them (i work with my hands - im not just a dirty girl).
Ladies were nice - so 2 starts.
- Pros: lady was really nice
- Cons: rubbish pedicure - pointless manicure - waste of time
Perfect Last Minute Pedicure/Manicure
by la_lutin at Citysearch
First of all, I must say that it was awesome to find a nail salon open after 9 pm. I usually work until 9, so already, Pastel earns gold stars in my book for being open until 10 pm! I came here last minute the night before I was flying to Chicago to be in a wedding, so it was important that my nails looked perfect and matched my bridesmaid dress (if they did a bad job, I wouldn't have the time for a re-do in Chicago, so this was really important!!). Anyway, the woman did my toenails to perfection, and gave me possibly the best French pedicure of my life! And she tackled my nightmare cuticles and weirdly-shaped nails that never look good with polish and now my hands look great too! I am just thrilled to have had such an excellent job done. I know where I will be getting my nails done next time!
Plus, the place is super-clean, and has a nice open and relaxing feel to it, and the women are extremely friendly.
- Pros: Great pedicure/manicure, really comfy seats, long foot baths!
Worst manicure in my life
by kamagib at Citysearch
Yes, the place was very clean and the staff was friendly. This was my first time at Pastel and I only got a manicure. I am not exaggerating that it was the worst manicure in my life. I didn't realize it until I got home and saw just how much the woman butchered my cuticles --she cut deep into my skin below my cuticle, as in ON my fingers, and the polish was....well, I could have done better with my left hand. (I am right-handed.) Then a few days later I removed the polish and saw how incredibly uneven my cuticles were pushed back. Six of my fingers have unevenly pushed back cuticles. That's mainly what I go to a nail spa for: to get my cuticles pushed back and cut because I cannot do it well on my own.
I hope this woman was the exception but I won't be returning. The manicure was only $10 but I could have done a better job on my own, especially since I just bought some OPI nail polish at Duane Reade.
- Pros: Good location, clean
- Cons: Worst manicure I have ever seen!
great , clean and simple nail salon with good waxing

For a nail salon with extra services, Pastel is my favorite local nail salon. I get my nails done here and waxing, and have never been disappointed. My manicures usually start chipping after only a day or 2, but the last time I went here, it took a whole week until they even started chipping, and only chipped on 1 or 2 nails! Plus, the salon seems very sanitary to me... pedicure tubs are always cleaned out after every use, tools are put in sanitizing "ovens."
For waxing, I had a better experience (less painful, more hair removal) here compared to higher end spas (like Metamorphosis). She did the right prep so that putting the wax on didn't pull at the hairs, and she was very quick, removing all the hairs. The woman doing my waxing and nails was also very nice, spoke perfect English and made me feel comfortable. If you've been to nail salons in NYC, you too will appreciate the perfect English coming from nail salon employees.
- Pros: great waxing, long-lasting manicures, great atmosphere with walls of windows
- Cons: E Village clients talking loudly to eachother or on cell phones!
A mini spa experience as laid-back as the neighborhood.
by Contributor at Citysearch
In Short
In-and-out nail services and chair massages are the primary draw at this East Village mini spa, where the cutesy color scheme lives up to the spa's name. An abundance of busy manicure stations face a wall of flat-screen TVs, and the leather pedicure chairs hum with electric massagers. Private rooms in back are reserved for skin treatments, including express facials for quick complexion boosts, body scrubs like the bio-enzyme exfoliating wrap, massages and more.
want to feel pampered but not go broke?

Having frequented a variety of salons and spas from midtown to downtown and beyond, this is the only place I've ever been able to get a proper wax for under $75 that didn't leave me missing skin and/or still having to shave afterward. Every time I try to go somewhere else, I regret it and end up returning! I don't even live in the neighborhood anymore, and I will go out of my way to get to Pastel. No, the prices aren't the cheapest out there, but when it comes to beauty services in Manhattan, you truly get what you pay for, and these ladies are consummate professionals.
- Pros: attentive to details, friendly, prompt
- Cons: hard on the upselling at times
Best Pedicure In Manhattan
by carzilb at Citysearch
I have been searching the east village for a great nail salon and have finally found it. The staff at Pastel was so friendly. I got the best pedicure I have ever had, and will never go anywhere else. While getting a pedicure I suggest getting the extra 10 minute foot massage. Only an extra $10 and so worth it.
- Pros: Friendly staff, late hours, very clean
