DO NOT RENT FROM THEM

by NYC10442

The first thing that really bothers me about this company is that everyone who works there is completely condescending and rude. So calling them with any questions or problem always turns out to be an awful experience. Secondly, throughout the course of my year I have had numerous mice and bug sightings. There are cockroaches all over the hallways. My toilet has broken twice and my kitchen sink once. The building is old and falling apart. The company is not helpful and extremely rude.

Rude and Unprofessional

by KD214

I don't know how these people run a business. They are completely rude, unhelpful and unprofessional.

I wouldn't re-sign a lease with them if they were giving it away for free.

Not worth dealing with these crooks when their buildings are falling apart and they don't take care of them!

Negligence is not a virtue

by ahoypolloi

I lived in a Sassouni-managed building in the East Village. Don't pay attention to positive reviews. If your standard for management companies in this city is "they didn't make my life totally miserable" then you've got the tenant version of battered wife syndrome.

The fact is, any company that puts so little effort into treating their customers is just as bad as one that is mendacious, negligent, or law-breaking. While my super (or rather, the super's assistant who did all the work) was terrific, every other person was lazy, uncaring and/or incompetent. To wit: upon moving out, the super spent about 90 seconds looking around the apartment to inspect for damage, cleanliness, etc. He said it was fine. Then, when I finally (over two months later) received my security deposit back, it was $200 less than the total amount. The office told me there was damage. I asked what specifically. They couldnt answer me. But they also refused to issue me the correct amount for my deposit. They know it's not worth suing someone for $200, so it's a nice last f*ck-you they can give to their former tenants.

I know that sometimes you're stuck and have to hold your nose and work with certain companies. I would encourage you to expend every effort to avoid having to live in a building managed by Sassouni.

I would not typically write a review on this site, but the overwhelming amount of horrible reviews about Sassouni are disturbing and I felt the need to say something. When I was getting ready to sign my lease two years ago, I too Googled the company and stumbled upon this website with all the horrible reviews. This website literally almost made me walk away from a gorgeous apartment that was far-better priced than other lesser apartments I'd looked at, and I am so glad I chose to ignore what I was reading.

I have lived in my building now for the past two years, and have not had a single issue or complaint. I truly believe the people complaining are people who are either paying their rent late and deservedly receiving poor service, or just have some sort of personal vendetta against the company.

I have had only a couple small things that needed to be repaired in my apartment, and I was always contacted on the same day by the management office with an appointment time for the repairs. They have also been very accommodating to my schedule and actually have their contractors show up on time, which I find to be somewhat rare in this city. John and Allen in particular went out of their way to take care of my lease re-signing and replacing an entire toilet instead of taking the easy way out and just repairing a part.

The garbage area in the back of my building is well-maintained and I have NEVER seen a mouse or a rat back there (or in my apartment for that matter), and I can truthfully say my bug sightings have been VERY few and far between.

If you are a good tenant who pays your rent on time, I can't imagine you would have any of these horrible encounters other people are writing about, and I would strongly discourage making your decision on whether or not to rent from Sassouni based on all these insane reviews.

Horrible Horrible Horrible

by HonestReview11

If citysearch would let me I'd give this company NO stars.

Sassouni Management lacks communication, integrity and NO respect for it's tenants.

Ambi is rude, unhelpful and defensive.

By the way the current website that comes up for this company is bogus. It's a front.

STAY away from this management company.

DO NOT RENT FROM THEM

by lmm22

I am forced to move again after 1 year in a building of theirs because they indeed they are raising the rent by 20%, a $400 dollar per month increase -- equal to $4800 per year. They gave us less than 40 days notice of this. It is a terribly inconvenient personal time for me to move but my only choice is to stay and pay these crooks extra and watch them try to raise it again in a year or to leave now before any more money is thrown away. They took forever to respond to an attempt to negotiate and then returned with an offer of a $350 increase per month. I am sickened by this treatment and absolute lack of consideration for what is ethical and humane. Over the last few months, many people have been chased out of the building for this same reason and I wish I had realized the scope of the problem then so I was prepared for this predicament. I am also sickened when I think of the brokers who sold the apartment who said they personally were waiting for apartments for open up for them to move in. Many have opened up and none of them have moved in. I am sure that is a line they use. Overall, I've had a terrible experience and it is worth waiting for a better apartment to open up than to take one of these.

**NEVER RENT FROM THESE SCUMBAGS**

by ctynyc

All the apartments always look good at first, and then after a year they try to raise the rent at a minimum of 20%. All the good reviews are posted by Ambi & Allen themselve. They are despicable to deal and karma will be dealt to eveyone one of them.

Most unprofessional experience I've ever had. RUDE RUDE RUDE

by Losing Faith

In agreement with all other comments, this company deserves negative stars. It must be a job requirement for working there to be a complete jerk.

It has been a continuous frustration and disappointment with every communication I've had and I dread speaking with them the few times a year I've had to. Every person who answers the phone gets worse and more rude with each call.

I was finally called back with my new rent quote past the 60 days notice I was suposed to give before my lease expiration. Aside from the hike in rent being astonomically high, I received a sarcastic remark when asking if I could negotiate. I considered the increase but will be moving out on principle alone.

There have been several miscommunications from them regarding my copy of my lease and even after being a model tenant, I am nervous my security deposit will be an issue for no valid reason.

**If you can avoid renting an apartment from this company, go with somewhere else!**

Sassouni Management should be embarrassed and ashamed these employees are a representation of their name and business execution. I'm actually amazed they're still able to run a business at all.
