Gorgeous. Prepare to be wowed by the colorful yarns, beautifully displayed.

Beautiful to look at better to hold; if you like it, you can take it home! Absolutely gorgeous color sense predominates, an absolute joy for the eyes. But yes, the staff are very helpful about finding patterns and assisting in color and fiber selection. Koigu, Blue Sky, Painters Palette, Lorna's Laces as well as outstanding cashmere selection are to be found! I got their pattern for a "Brioche Scarf," selected a yarn, then sat, got stitch help and left a very happy customer!

Best Knitting-Yarn Shop in NYC!
by rhapsodyblue at Citysearch
I have been knitting for at least 4 years and I've been to numerous yarn/knitting shops in and around NYC as well as online and I must say that Purl is the best! The shop is located in a great Soho neighborhood.
I admit that the shop is small but it's cozy and the staff are always friendly and helpful. In fact, most yarn shops that I have visited are small and claustrophobic but not Purl. The interior is light in color and the shopfront lets in lots of natural light so it's alway bright and colorful even on rainy days. I just love the way the yarns are organized within the shelves by color and material. I always feel like a kid in a candy store every time I enter Purl. Unlike most knitting stores I've visited, Purl carries yarns that are made of mostly natural fibers. You won't find 100% polyester yarns here.
I highly recommend this wonderful store to all knitters; beginners and experienced. The staff are super friendly and are always happy to help with whatever questions you have about knitting or troubleshoot your current projects. They're very knowledgeable of the products that are sold in Purl and of knitting and crochet.
And although the shop is cozy, they have room if you want to just sit and knit.
- Pros: Friendly staff, natural fiber yarns, bright and colorful shop.
- Cons: None.
Good Selection

Purl has a good selection and a super friendly staff, they'll speak with you about your projects and even help you out. Not to mention they've been known to play some pretty cool music as well! The place is tiny, but that is really it's only flaw.
- Pros: great customer service
- Cons: small space
Wonderful collection, good price!

I am amazed when i stepped into the store. There are so many cool fabrics like Amy Butler's(which is what I was looking for). The prices are very reasonable as compared even to Ebay. However, some of their really simple designs can cost a lot. You will also find a lot of cool fabrics from various designers. Store is very well kept and fabrics are arranged very neatly. The downside is that the store is pretty store so designs are pretty limited. But I will definitely get my fabrics from there again!
- Pros: Pretty convenient location in soho, cool fabrics, clean and neat store
- Cons: some fabrics are a little pricey
Incredible customer service
by jimmydeanstonecold at Citysearch
Lovely knitting shop, small but great interesting yarns. On a busy Saturday, the owner took time out to explain to a brand new knitter basic sweater construction and design ideas. I overheard the coversation and she really went into detail. Wow. These people obviously care about the art and craft of knitting, but they also care about their customers!
- Pros: Great sales
- Cons: Can get busy inside
