True Story: On Sunday September 23 @ 2am, I was rudely harassed by the person at the counter:

My wife, friends, and I visited Kati Roll on September 23nd, 2007. After receiving my order (as I began to eat) I realized that there was a mistake. I had ordered a unda chicken roll but was given an undo roll (no chicken) by mistake. So, I went up to the man at the register and stated ?Excuse me, I think you gave me an unda roll by mistake?. He looked at me and said ?No, you ordered an unda roll?. He proceeded to blame me for the mistake and call me a liar. Through I was shocked and frustrated by the service and response of this man, I calmly responded and was ready to pay for another ( I drove 1 hour just for this place, I really wanted to eat my favorite type of kati roll); however, he further raised his voice and continued to yell ?You are wrong and I am right.? As I started to say, ?Yes but?? (was planning on offereing to pay again) he interrupted in now a very loud and angry voice ?Get out now?. He then came out of the counter with his fist at me (He placed his fist on my cheak). My wife and 3 friends were forcefully kicked out of the restaurant.

We were all completely shocked at what happened. Unfortunately, I knew I couldn?t do anything but I am truly upset by how I was treated. His behavior was completely uncalled for. I understand that the location of the restaurant attracts a lot of rowdy drunk people at that time of the day; however, my friends and I were neither drunk nor rowdy and did not deserve to be treated in that manner.

My friends and I have therefore decided to boycott this place and spread the word of how badly I was treated. I have sent letters to consumer affairs to make sure that there is some sort of action taken for their unfair treatment towards me and my friends.

  • Pros: Original kati Roll
  • Cons: Cannot return or exchange food. You may get literally beaten up by the manager.

On Sunday September 7, 2008 at around 8:30pm after a hard day of Grad school homework at NYU, a classmate and I decided to get some food! We walked down MacDougal St. in NYC looking for something Yummy that had a Vegetarian option for my classmate, since she does not eat meat. We found this place called Kati Roll located at 99 MacDougal St. It seemed like a nice place so we ordered and paid for a chicken roll and two potato and egg rolls.

We ended up getting a chicken roll and some strange meat roll that seemed to be goat. When we went up to the counter to try to tell them that we received the wrong thing, We immediately started to get yelled at by the cashier person telling us that this is what we ordered. Since I did not want to deal with the yelling, I asked for an extra potato and egg Kati Roll that I would gladly pay for. I then told him that I was very disappointed that they would not exchange the roll and meet the needs of their clientele. To our surprise and the surprise of the people around us, the cashier person started to yell at us and told us to ?Get Out!? and literary pushed us out the door.

Frightened by this event we called the police. We explained the situation to one officer while the other went inside to get the cashier?s story. Event the officer agreed that the guy had an attitude problem. We thanked the police officers as they left. I wanted to archive this event so I took a picture of the shop from outside the facility. As soon as the guy saw me take the picture, he came running out to the door and started kicking and punching the air like a mad man while yelling, ?Get out now!? ?get out!? so we left horrified by the service.

Reflecting on the situation, I remember seeing the kitchen staff sitting on the greasy dirty floor of the kitchen behind the counter, eating what seemed to be a Kati Roll. He put his hands on the ground to get up and make our rolls, no hair net and with out washing his hands. This was the icing on the cake. Beware!

  • Pros: unique food, something different.
  • Cons: getting screamed and yelled at, possibly getting beat up by staff.

A good place to go after a few drinks in the Village. The atmosphere is not very good and it didnt help at all that I went there on a rainy day. The entire place was mucky and the table tops needed cleaning. But the food is great and ideal place to grab a quick bite. I would like to see a bigger menu though.

  • Pros: Cheap and good rolls
  • Cons: Bad ambiance

Kat roll is the shizznet....bangin food, especially after late night partying in the village...it may disappoint if you go there on a friday or saturday night....they rush the orders and its not as good as any other day...everyone is packed in after going out so you get up close and personal with the guy next to you...and dont expect to get a seat on weekends either...its get your food and get going, but its worth it....great place to eat especially late nights post partying, although as i said....it can disappoint if it is super packed and they rush the orders

  • Pros: Food, paneer roll and chicken unda roll
  • Cons: long wait on late night weekends

For as long as I can remember when I go out into the city my friends and I have always looked for a good place to eat after a long night of drinking and partying...but it had to be affordable! My cousin used to always take me out to MacDougal for cheap eats...it was until a few years ago when we discovered Kathi rolls which drew me so into it! It starts off with a fried Malasian "roti" or bread. You take your pick of vegetarian with Paneer, or Indian cheese, or meat with or without egg. They add pickled onions and top it off with minty-corriander chutney before rolling it up hot and packing it up for you to take home to eat! Kathi Rolls is a small joint with only a few tables...the lines go out the door but their fast service makes up for it when you bite into the yummy roll! Every time I go out into the city, I drag my friends all the way downtown for some good food and we go home happy!

  • Pros: good food, decent prices
  • Cons: long lines and it's small

I have the ultimate love/hate relationship with Kati Roll. But it inched a little more towards the hate side when I went in the other day to see that they raised their prices again. You have to have two rolls to be full for lunch, period. And yeah they taste good, but $9.00 for two cottage cheese rolls, without tax included, plus a drink is over $10 which is well over my lunch budget. Additionally, the quality is very hot and cold (literally). Sometimes I'll do takeout and by the time I get it to the park, one block away, it is cold. And finally, the staff is just not nice. They never have been. Even at the one up near times square. Flat out rude. Anyway, with so many inexpensive and delicious options in the NYU area I just can't justify Kati Roll anymore. Its a shame.

  • Pros: Delicious
  • Cons: Inconsistent Quality, terrible service, too expensive

They are of Indian taste. It is a small place but the food is great. They make bread or roti and roll up chicken, goat, veg paneer into the bread. It's not expensive at all. I wouldn't go to dine their, but they do have a few small tables to eat and go. But if you like Indian rolls these are the best. Their is normally a large line at the door and on weekend nights it gets so busy late night they have a bouncer at the door.

PROS: Great food

CONS: small place

Keep in mind that a few of us went there after a night out, so I think anything greasy would have been good. Nevertheless, I believe that you cannot beat these rolls if you consider the price and the quick preparation. The Kati rolls are bursting with all of the flavors of Indian food and they offer a few different types of rolls to suit most people's taste. It's a must if you're in the area and you like Indian food.

  • Pros: Food, Speedy
  • Cons: Cramped, Busy street @ night
