Great food, prices, and service!

Great menu, reasonable prices. Great for someone looking for something different from the usual chinese food in Chinatown. Watch out- lots of the dishes are pretty spicy. Recommend getting roti canai or satay for appetizer, char kway teow or laksa as entrees. and chendol or shaved ice for desert! Staff is very friendly as well. We asked some general questions about Chinatown and they were nice.
Excellent service, decor and food in Chinatown
by goldbug at Citysearch
In Chinatown it is often expected to get gruff service at a venue lacking decor, but Singapore Cafe is neither of these. The staff is attentive and super friendly. The food is delicious and worth every penny. Try their curry beef and Chinese spinach (hollow vegetables) for a fantastic treat. Their desserts are awesome as well from their rice pudding to ABC ice in a bowl.

I was walking by Singapore Cafe on my way to a Chinese restuarant nearby and I was waved in by a smiling lady in her 50s standing outside. That seems to be her job, probably one of the owners. I decided to go in and sat down. The place was clean, dark tiled floor. Looking around, I noticed that of all the people in the place not one was Asian -- this is typically not a good sign if you are in Chinatown. As I continued to look around, the portions looked small and I thought I should probably leave but decided that would be rude. I wish I had left. The prices were nothing special and the 1/2 chicken ordered came almost entirely cold (gross skin still on it and all) but in a warm soy sauce of sorts. It was nothing short of gross. I picked at it, paid my bill and decided to go to the original place on my list. The bathroom wasn't too bad though for chinatown standards but I know a few others that rank far higher in terms of everything. The service wasn't rude at all, but I didn't like the dropping the bill on the table like it was being thrown at me. Who wants Singapore variety food when you can have really good mainland China varieties nearby. Never go somewhere where you are waved in and under pressure to go inside. What is this a parking garage? What kind of descent restaurant does that? This one.
- Pros: kind of clean
- Cons: cold and gross food - wouldn't go back
Friendliest Authentic Singaporean Food
by spancor at Citysearch
Recently went with a group of ex-pat friends, with whom I attended high school in Singapore years ago (SAS EAGLES!). Anyway, Singapore Cafe provides a casual setting to enjoy authentic Roti, Mee Goreng, and Chicken Rice (a few of the many SIngapore staples). Also, the crab is great. The food is great, but even more than that, the service is fantastic. Every time I've been I've felt so welcome, and enjoyed the company of the staff exchanging brief stories or our time in Singapore and the similar places we've been. Great food, great service, what more can you ask for!
- Pros: Great service and great authentic Singaporean food
- Cons: Average decor
Very Friendly

I spent the day walking around Chinatown looking for somewhere to eat.. I had only two criteria -- it had to take a credit card (hard to find around the area) and it had to look clean.
Just as I was about to leave and go look for something in the more popular areas down 2nd Avenue, I came across this joint. A man was standing outside handing out menus, and I looked inside and saw a very clean place with almost a family atmosphere.
We had the Hunan Beef and the Hunan Triple Delight, both very good dishes, over white rice. The spices were excellent, it was very tasty. I had the Chinese beer, they poured it for me, etc etc
Over the course of the meal not only did my waiter, but almost everyone who worked there came by to ask us if we were okay, and if we needed anything else. I found this to be quite nice as it was easy to get what you wanted, and fast... as opposed to some restaurants you end up waiting 20 minutes to see your waiter again..
Very good food, very friendly place, everyone said goodbye and thanks... I'd definitely go again.
I rated 4 stars... I recommend the joint... its not exactly the best place I've ever eaten in the world, so it doesn't get 5 stars.. but by all means, I'd go there again and again.
- Pros: The friendly and quick service
- Cons: None

Excellent Malaysian Restaurant
by luluintan at Citysearch
This is the only Malaysian restaurant that I would recommend to anyone visiting NYC. They have excellent selection of Malaysian food as well as friendly staff. I highly recommend their Black Pepper Crab and their coconut prawn dish. Their beef rendang is excellent and tasty. Their Nasi lemak gives you value for the money. The soup dishes such, as Asam Laksa is excellent also. And don't forget dessert! They have this awesome coconut pudding that is presented inside the coconut shell. It's an excellent ending for an excellent dinner.
- Pros: Food Taste, Quality of food, Service
