I have been doing pilates for years. After returning to New York I had no idea where to go for for quality instruction. While trying other studios I was fast becoming frustrated and disappointed. Then CFM was found! The best instruction I have found in the city. I am very picky and want my instrctors to be classically trained with lots of knowledge. All the instructors I have used have been GREAT! Best of all the push me to improve without being aggressive and military it makes it enjoyable. I look forward to every session I have!

Pros: Everyone is friendly. Great customer service.

I'm a male in my mid-twenties and I recently started to experience mild back pain. It was in my lower back and hurt pretty bad at times. I asked around about whether to see a chiropractor and was told to begin with some entry level pilates. After that I took 4 classes at the Center For Movement over the past month and the back pain has been pretty much solved. They have great instruction and really work on helping different areas that your are looking to improve. The overall knowledge that I received about streching and overall body awareness was awesome. Pilates really helped my body feel better an operate at a healthier level. I would highly recommend this studio to anybody.

Pros: Great Instruction, $$$, Nice Studio

Cons: n/a

I am a newcomer to Pilates and have loved my experience at Center for Movement. I had terrible chronic neck pain and am recovering from a bad accident where I broke a few vertebraes in my back one year ago. Thanks to this place, I feel terrific. I just can't believe how good my neck and back feel now, and guess what? I look much better. As a 43-year old woman w/ a job and kids, I usually find a million excuses not to exercise, but with CFM, I actually look forward to exercising and the results are great....My abs, my arms and my overall posture are all much better. The instructors are all very professional and make sure you are doing the exercise correctly and the facility is clean and welcoming. I really love it and highly recommend it.

I started to read all of the other reviews and didnt really have much more to add. The attentive service and knowlegable and caring staff made it easier for me as a beginner to feel comfortable and they really took the time to ensure that I was doing everything correctly. After only four sessions I felt like a new woman. I am walking taller, slouching less, my shoulders are back for the first time since I started carrying a purse. The extra bonus is the pain in my lower back and shoulders is GONE GONE GONE. Oh, is that really the beginning of an ab muscles showing below my ribs? I havent seen those puppies since I was 16. This place really has the right attitute - professionalism, caring, passion, and dedication to teaching their craft to those of us that have no clue! Bravo!

Pros: Great staff with wonderful attitudes

Cons: They tell me I am going to have to be patient for more abs to show up

CFM definitely puts the client first! Great place to do Pilates and Gyrotonics knowing that you will have a one on one session with the best trained professionals!

Pros: The studio

I've been doing Pilates for 10 years and just started doing Gyrotonics at CFM. It's an intimate studio that is clean (many are getting old and dingy), fresh and very user friendly. The intructors are really great - professional yet friendly with very good training. The Pilates machines are up to date and in good shape (another issue at older studios). Definitly worth the try if you are thinking about adding Pilates and or Gyro to your excercise routine.

Pros: Equipment, instructors, clean

Cons: a very small dressing room

I have been a devoted patron of Center For Movement, CFM, for several years now, 2 private sessions a week. At 51, my body is really in the best shape ever. More important, with the wonderful instructors at CFM, I can look forward to always being able to move through life's daily challenges with strength and ease, and my posture is so much better. I often remark during my sessions that I can't imagine what shape I might be in if I didn't do pilates. I have taken pilates-like classes elsewhere. What a waste of time and money! I recommend CFM 100%! I am always learning, progressing and being challenged.

Pros: Relaxed, friendly atmosphere, very clean, every effort to accomodate client schedules.

I started taking private pilates classes at CFM nine months ago. I needed a change of pace in my regular excersize routine. The results have been incredible. I am now much stronger and leaner. Most of all I really enjoy my sessions at CFM. I have been working with the same teacher all along. She knows me, my goals, my strengths and most importantly my body. Every week she changes and adds on to my routine, it is never boring. CFM is a small studio on the upper east side that provides attention and expert training for all. I can now be confident as I walk down the aisle at my wedding.

CFM only hires instructors with hardcore experience--well trained in authentic Pilates; none of these ridiculous "weekend certification" graduates. The instructors push you hard, and are sticklers for perfect form. The atmosphere at the studio is wonderfully chill, and the equipment is in great condition. I think it's absolutely the best studio on the Upper East Side (and I have been to most of them).

CFM is a great find for those serious about pilates and gyrotonics. CFM has a range of mat and machine classes for every skill level and there are instructors for every type of student. I've been doing pilates for over 10 years and each instructor challenges me in different ways. Every time I leave CFM, my entire body feels tighter and more limber. The staff and instructors are professional and friendly. CFM has been a true oasis for me!
