i've been going to emma for two years now, on the recommendation of a friend whose hair always looks fantastic. i have never had a bad haircut or color. not even a so-so one! i used to live a few blocks away, but i've been making the trek from brooklyn for a year now after moving because i can't bear to go to anyone else. she's great at natural styles and edgy stuff too (i went from long and natural to short with hot pink streaks, at her suggestion, and i get compliments constantly). i referred my roommate, and it's her favorite haircut she's ever had. she's a convert! as far as i can tell, everyone at alice is as good as emma. the atmosphere is chic, the shampoo-staff are always nice, and while your color is setting, you can watch DVDs. i've only partaken of the wine and tea they offer you once or twice, but it's really a swanky experience for very reasonable prices. it's not cheap, but you get more than you pay for.

Pros: excellent stylists, friendly staff, chic atmosphere

Cons: i don't live around the corner anymore

I moved to new york over 2 years ago and after alot of research i found alice hair salon the best find ever!!I found them on city search ,collette is my usual stylist and always does a great job on my color & cut ,i have about 3 different colors in my hair that just blend together fabulously ,also when collete has not been available caroline and emma have taken care of me even alice the owner looked after me once they all are equally talented and so friendly, my last hair colour was done by barbara and she is a new addition to alice and a great one at that, the assistants always have the wine and drinks flowing which is a great plus, i would definetly recommend going to this salon. I am getting married in the Fall and they are working on my color for the wedding will give you a update after the wedding.

Pros: very talent group of girls, friendly & always listen to requests

Cons: Its always busy ,sometimes hard to get an appointment

I went to Alice Hair Care because a friend went there and said she just loved it........ she kept talking about all the staff and friendly they are and that Alice was so nice and stopped to speak with her and welcomed her to the shop. This is not why I went she had the best High lights that I have ever seen my friend had a picture of what she wanted and she got it. YES she got what she wanted. I left Alice hair Care so happy with the best High lights I have ever had....... Emma put them in for me she is Irish and very happy.... I will be back for more it is the most divine, heavenly little place I have ever been to. Thank you Alice Hair Care.

Pros: I was not waiting to long.

I've been here three times now and will be going back. There are a few issues, but the prices are reasonable for Manhattan, and overall, I am satisfied with the service. I'm another of the people disappointed that Amerah is no longer there, as she was truly excellent - genuinely pleasant, professional, and obviously highly skilled. Since then I have seen Barbara. On the first occasion I saw her, I wanted a cut and color, but the salon didn't have time to do the color, only the cut. This was my fault, as I tried to get a last-minute appointment before going overseas. I was satisfied with my cut, which has lasted well, though I had to practically beg Barbara to cut it sufficiently short for my taste. When I went back for a double process two weeks later, the salon was insanely busy. Do not go there on a Friday afternoon, unless you like waiting and falling over other people in the confined salon space. It is much quieter earlier in the week and before 2pm. It is true that they offer wine in the evening, which is a nice touch if you do indulge. However, because the salon was so busy, I didn't see Barbara but an even newer girl from Northern Ireland. She did a great job, especially on short notice - the color is wonderful, and she was polite, calm and pleasant even despite the insanity all around. Barbara did come over to see me to apologize for not being able to do my color becauseof the general chaos, which I appreciated. I'd agree with previous posters that it's a good idea to be very clear about what you want from the start (take a photo in with you if necessary - if you're that concerned about your hair, it's worth the trouble), but in my experience, the staff will work hard to make sure you are happy before you leave. That said, I don't much like the owner, Alice. She can be extremely rude to her staff in front of clients, and is not very welcoming to new clients.

I went to get my hair colored from auburn to strawberry blond. I sat in the chair and Colette, the stylist, started snapping at me about how she could only do highlights! It was very obvious that she was busy and did not have time for me. After about five minutes of convincing me to do something I did not want, she told me "to hurry up and decide because she had other clients coming in". I deciding to get the highlights because I already waited 2 weeks to get an appointment and was going home for xmas the next day. She quoted me at 150 dollars but my bill was $300 and I was charged $40 to dry my hair even though it was the middle of December and 10 degrees outside! Needless to say, my friend (who also tried the place) and I did not go back!

Pros: None

Cons: Very Rude Service and Too Expensive

My wife was supposed to have an appointment with Collette, who's work she is extremely pleased with, but Collette had to leave early before my wife's scheduled appointment, so she was set up with Barbara, a newcomer to the salon, instead...it was a complete disaster!!!...my wife requested just a 1 inch trim, and Barbara chopped off what seemed like 3-4 inches...my wife was livid...and to make matters worse, my wife had asked for the cut to be all one length, and Barabara made it choppy and not all one length...my wife was extremely upset by this experience...she will never go to see Barabara again, and neither should you if you want your hair to come out the way you want it.

WOW. Alice is a genius. I have moved around a lot, and gone to many fine salons around the country - Alice is the best. She has a vision for what looks best on a person and then she creates it. Alice is incredibly gifted - I highly recommend her if you want beautiul hair! I wish I had found Alice years ago!!

Pros: Skill of stylists/colorists, atmosphere, friendliness of staff, location, products

Cons: There weren't any.

i live in the neighborhood and decided to give Alice Salon a try. When I called for an appointment, the woman on the phone said "We only have 1 stylist today and she's all booked". Fine. A little while later, I went out to run some errands and went past the salon -- there were stylists hanging out and sitting in chairs!! I called them to spend money on a haircut -- Alice Hair Care is obviously not interested in mine, sight unseen!!!! Is turning away customers an elitist thing or an attempt to become exclusive? LOL! Fine - there are plenty of other salons in my UES area~!!!!!

So I just called to make an appt, and was put on hold for 5 minutes with barely an apology...this after calling the night before and having them answer the phone, only to tell me "we're closed." So don't answer the phone! With so many hair places in the city, it shouldn't take this much effort to simply make an appointment. They have lost two customers because of this, as my wife and i will not be going back. The haircuts we did get were fine, but the place is very small and cramped and always hectic. There is nowhere to sit and they are clearly overbooking as the few times I went had to wait for 15 minutes each time. See ya!
