Best sushi in NYC by far
by PigOutNYC at Citysearch
I have lived in NYC for over 30 years and have been to all the big name sushi restaurants: Masa, Kuruma Zushi, Blue Ribbon, Sushi Yasuda, Sushi of Gari, Bond Street, Sushi Sen-nin (just to name a small handful). Sasabune absolutely destroys all of them. The prices are totally fair for what you are getting, and the service is excellent. Good wine and sake list, and the servers are very helpful in making a selection. Seating is very limited though, so unless you're planning on going before 6:30pm or so, I would advise making a reservation. If you are a sushi lover and you haven't tried this place, you are really denying yourself a great experience.
- Pros: Best sushi anywhere, excellent service, good value given the quality
- Cons: Cramped, limited seating, blah location
Oustanding Sushi
by PrincessLC at Citysearch
From the outside it looks like a regular sushi place where people normally order take out or delivery, but don't let it fool you. This place by far is one of the best sushi place in NYC. They literally fly the fish from Japan!! Talk about fresh!! The price is a little in the high side and there's no menu. The sushi master will create whatever he desires that day and it is up to you to eat it. If this sounds scary, don't be, because his creation are spectacular! If you like fresh sushi and sashimi like the ones they have in Japan.... going to the UES is shorter ride than to Tokyo.
- Pros: Best sushi in NYC
- Cons: Small Restaurant
Best Sushi in NYC!!
by vkc1216 at Citysearch
The best sushi I had in NYC!! I went there several times and never disappointed, sit in the sushi bar if possible. Omakase only, the chef make the next piece of sushi only after you finished your piece, the rice in the sushi is still warm while you eat it. Kumamoto oysters, abalone sashimi (whole) in half shell, uni and salmon roe, etc, everything that I was served was top quality and fresh. Highly recommended.
- Pros: Top quality sushi, excellent service, fresh ingredients
- Cons: Decoration is average
Best Sushi EVER!
by mgrowney at Citysearch
My BF's and I have been to the Honolulu and NYC restraurants and they are simply the best ever for sushi. We talk about our meals there all the time and in fact we are going there tonight to celebrate the one year anniversary of finding the restraurant in Honolulu. It is that good! Our next step is to complete the Susi Sasbune trifecta and go to the one in LA.
- Pros: Best sushi anywhere and service is excellent
- Cons: NONE
Awesome food, great experience

I found these reviews online and took a chance (I've only been in NYC for 7 months). My BF actually congratulated me on finding a "steal" (he's from here). We sat within seconds of arriving on a Friday night with reservations made at 4pm that day! We told the server what we didn't like and then we ate the freshest sushi I have ever had in my life! I eat sushi and often! Our service was fantastic! We especially appreciated the little tips on soy sauce/no soy sauce. Although I have to admit it wasn't a posh atmosphere, we had a dinner that we still talk about three months later and inspired me to write this review! We will be back!
- Pros: Fresh, fresh, fresh; attentive waitstaff
- Cons: smaller space, not a lot of frills
Worth every penny

To call this a sushi place is almost an insult to the chefs there. Definitely not for noivce. The fish is very fresh of course. Rice is warm, which strangely, brings out the best taste of the flesh. It's not cheap. We spend $350 for 2 cause we order 2 bottles of sake & additional sashimi. The abalone is great.
This place is definitely for sushi purists only.
- Pros: Can't get any fresher. Authentic
- Cons: Expensive. Can't linger around.
Great sushi

I love how cute this place is. Also they are very sweet and inviting- you feel like part of the family, not just a customer. and the chef is an incredible stickler for freshness. I know that he chooses fish by hand every day at the seaport. This guy is no joke and will only serve the best. :)
- Pros: freshest and best
- Cons: Too far from my house!
Great sushi QPR
by michel at Citysearch
This place rocks, it's a great omakase joint that's not hideously expensive despite the quality of its ingredients. Sit at the bar and let the master take care of you.
That said, two things stand out: they need to pack the rice tighter, several times on repeat visits the rice crumbled as I was bringing the roll to my mouth. Also, if you go for the early seating, you might feel rushed (I eat slowly, granted).
That's the only 2 reasons I didn't give this place 5 stars.
- Pros: Great fish
- Cons: Loose rice,
Hands Down, best creative sushi in the City
by jcisrhiannon at Citysearch
I think you can only order the tasting menu, which is definitely what you want to do. Unlike other pretentious omakase menus in the city (i.e. Masa), this place has a laid-back, non-stuffy vibe. It's very small, so you will interact with the sushi chefs. And unlike a very traditional Japanese place (which has a time and a place), all of the courses come with creative sauces and dressings that really compliment the seafood. I had the most memorably fresh oysters in my life here. You can tell that there is exquisite attention to detail. Take a date here who really appreciates food, and she will be wildly impressed.
- Pros: MIndblowing food
- Cons: Small, quiet ambience, limited menu options
