Best eyewear store in Manhattan

by nyrickster1

I stumbled onto Artsee when it was located in the Meatpacking District close to Scoop and just a block from Jeffrey near the Standard. I have a rather narrow face and it's often difficult to find fashionable glasses that fit well. Artsee carries all sizes of frames, so the selection was phenomenal. I have since bought four pairs of glasses from them. The service is impeccable. The staff is incredibly attentive, they take their time making sure the product fits correctly, and the turnaround time from ordering to delivery is incredibly short.

I've been doing business with them now for several years and in fact just purchased another pair last week at their new 10 Downing Street place. Though I prefer the old store, everything is the same.

And to the Laura55NY who posted a review bashing the place; before taking a swipe at a perfectly wonderful store and staff, you should first take a refresher grammar course or at least learn to use a spell-checker. Also, stick to Lens Crafter or Wal-Mart, sounds like a much better fit for you all the way around.

bad people there

by Laura55NY

I can't believe this place. They're not only stupid but also very ignorant and just nasty people. When I asked them a question they looked at me like I'm from another world and totally ignored me. My merchendise question was never answered and the owner just went away. I think something is wrong with their personalities. Also, what does the stupid decor has to do with glasses in that store? It's very pothetic. Fortunatelly there is many more glasses stores in the area. Definitely not going back there!

  • Pros: location
  • Cons: stupid decor and nasty people

Great service and great eyewwear

by bc6

I broke my glasses on a Sunday and needed replacements by Monday so I did a Google search and found they were the only one place that could do same day service. So I took a ride down to Artsee which is in the Meatpacking district of Manhattan. After I got to the store I was helped view a bunch of different frames and settled on a perfect pair for me. I like the store a lot, there's no pressure to buy there are lot of different stuff to look at, plastic rims, metal rims and Titanium rims. Once I get over the sticker shock Im going back for those Titanium eyeglasses.

  • Pros: Nice hi-tech eyeglasses
  • Cons: A bit pricey but worth it

Great follow-up service!

by mullagatawny

I picked up a pair of glasses here about 4 months ago. The service was spot-on. The person who attended to me was very good. I tried on several pairs, but ended up taking their recommendation. Two weeks ago, I took my glasses in for an adjustment (I had dropped them and the left lens was popping out and had been scratched slightly). Right away they worked to correct the problem, but apparently the lenses were not to their liking and so they had them replaced - same day service. I picked them up a couple hours later. Brand new lenses! These things aren't cheap either, as you can tell from some of the other reviews. I too am shocked to read that other patrons received poor service here. Both of my visits have been met with very good service. Highly recommended.

  • Pros: Selection, service
  • Cons: A bit pricey

Amazing Store!!!!

by yelenap

I can't believe all the reviews I am reading. Artsee is beyond amazing. I love the people, they are true professionals. The sales people are not only extremely knowledgeable in their profession, but they aren't trying to sell glasses to anyone. They really take their time with each customer and devote one on one attention. I bought a few glasses from there - and I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. I highly recommend this store to everyone!!

Glasses that suit your looks.

by trufflehunter

I have been looking for a place like this for years. I can't pick out my own glasses (because without the prescription in front of me, I can't see the glasses) so want to leave these decisions up to professionals. Once sat next to a man wearing beautiful, subtle, perfectly proportioned glasses. I loved them, complimented him on them, and asked where he got them. He described Artsee to me, and recommended it. He added that he had 70 or 80 pairs of glasses, so I was pretty sure he had done some research. I went the following week. The store has a huge and unusual selection. The owners have a strong eye for shape and color, and will make recommendations (if you want). They help you chose glasses suited to your face/skin/personality. First guy helped me pick out 20 or 30 pairs that we both liked. Second guy narrowed down the choices to two, giving me reasons for and against each pair. Third guy said "those!" and a few days later, voila. Eight months later, they are still great glasses. I get compliments regularly, with much the same reaction as I gave the stranger next to me. They're fairly expensive, but well worth the money. I'm going back this week for another pair, probably sunglasses.

  • Pros: high quality frames, staff has fabulous eye for beauty, fun place to get a new look
  • Cons: high cost - maybe not the place to go if you're prone to losing glasses

Absolutely the best glasses, with service and artistic uniqueness to almost every frame to match

by tsherer

I absolutely love this store. The minute you walk in, you realize that you won't be able to find run-of-the-mill glasses here. From classic to super-trendy, you can't go wrong in finding a unique pair of glasses. The staff takes care of you every step of the way, ensuring that your tastes will fit well with your head/face/eyes and won't let you walk out of there with something that doesn't work.

  • Pros: Unique, one of a kind selections that you won't find on every other passerby on the street.

Museum-caliber eyewear for the true collector.

by Contributor

The Scene
Lenscrafters it ain't--this boutique is strictly for those glasses-lovers who've got 60 or 70 designer pairs stashed away in their collections. Unlike the typical Madison Avenue eyeglass purveyor, the emphasis here isn't so much on seeing well as looking great--and your definition of great could mean as wacky as possible. The staff is friendly and as eclectic as the store--stop in and take a look.

The Goods
Brands like Issey Miyake, Face à Face, Théo and Christian Roth are popular, but the real sellers are Artsee's in-house, custom-made buffalo horn frames in your choice of color ($515-$1200, plus lenses). The true collector will go nuts for the 1980's memorabilia drawer with pieces like the famous shades from the movie Mannequin and pairs belonging to music group Devo. Try on frames with cashmere pressed within, YSL originals, or drops, which have no arms and hang from the ears by weighted strands of beads.
