Best Indian food
by Parsa
We went there with my girlfriend on a Friday night. They had some northeast Indian (Calcutta) specials. I ordered the seabass special. It was superb. My girlfriend ordered the chicken curry. She said it was very rich in taste. I don't even like very spicy food but the food was so delicious I had to finish it! Oh, and the bread (luchi it's called) was great too.
well worth venturing out in the east village

fantastic food the closest to english curry you will get in nyc, shame non delivery to the west side but enough of a reason to get off the sofa & venture to the east village for pick up.. taj mahal beer the way fwd as its not brewed in new jersey like the kingfisher there
- Pros: lamb chops & sizzling meat, chicken tikka massala
- Cons: non existant delivery to the west side
The worst delivery place in the City!
by englishgirlbecky
I have ordered from here before as the curries remind me of being back in England, the food is good. However, I have just waited almost 2 hours for my food. I called after 40 minutes of waiting and was told by a very polite woman that it was 10 minutes away, I called again 20 minutes later to be told that the delivery guy was in our area and our delivery was next, that the delivery guy did not speak any English! Another 20 minutes went by, another phone call to be told she was sorry and it would literally be 2 minutes! I told her I was not going to pay if the food was cold. When we finally got the food, another 10 minutes after my last call, it was lukewarm, the breads were stone cold! I asked the delivery man how come it took so long, he said it was the kitchen, "very busy"! I just feel that people should know this, don't order for delivery it's just not worth the wait, also really we were lied to by the lady on the phone! I won't be ordering from them again and suggest you don't too!
best indian on the street

I'm kinda weak, so super spicy food isn't for me. Luckily, Brick Lane has a large selection of really tasty, yet mild dishes. The dopiaza (I usually do chicken) is to die for, as well as the butter masala, korma, and goan curry. Gotta get the bombay aloo, aloo gobi or sag aloo as a side. And I love their chapatis. We've always gone early in the evening, because we know it gets crazy busy later on. The staff is attentive and the decor is pleasant.
- Pros: Great British-style Indian food
- Cons: 2 main courses and a side with naan will run about $60
Absolutely horrible

Read about this rest. while looking for some good spicy indian food and decided to give it a try. I was greatly dissapointed with 1) the food, 2) the service and 3) the decor. After the appetizer, we waited for nearly an HOUR for the dinner to arrive. I complained and the waiter did NOT even give me an update of the status. Instead they gave us 2 free drinks. Fine. When our food arrived - the goan chicken and a different type of curry dish, we were surprised in how lacking of flavor each of the dishes was. Minimal spice and no taste! Finally, the decor felt kind of "fake." I can say with certainty that I will not be returning to this place considering the large number of choices nearby. I also must comment that other patrons seemed to be very displeased with the service they were getting, so I am shocked to see the past positive reviews for this place. Perhaps a business owner "spamming" his/her own place.
- Pros: none
- Cons: long wait, poor service, bland food, poor decor
Terrific Indian Cuisine
by bhagee
As a South Asian, I must admit that this is one of THE best Indian restaurants I've been to in a while, probably tied with Madras Mahal. The service is excellent, the food is fresh, and pricing is very reasonable for NYC. It's always hard for me to find an Indian restaurant that meets my expectations, and Brick Lane has certainly exceeded them:)
- Pros: Cuisine, Variety, Service, Ambience
Mmmm...curry
by alyss80
As a Portlander (Oregon) on vacation, I was determined to find some good Indian food because back home while you can get decent food, nothing compares like the Indian cuisine I had in London, until Brick Lane...
After getting lost, my husband and I finally made it (and we were really happy we decided not to ditch our reservation). My husband had the tandorri chicken (good though I'm not a big fan of this meal in general) while I had the tandorri chicken masala which was excellent, it had just the right amount of spice (medium). The mango lasse was delish and the sweetness was perfect with my meal. The garlic naan was light and tasty and by the end of our meal I was absolutely stuffed. Besides our table being very cramped and small, we had an excellent experience.
- Pros: Food, service
- Cons: cramped table
Expensive, but worth it
by veganteachergirl
The prices here are a higher than most Indian places in the city, but the food distinguishes itself with unique flavors. Most Indian dishes I've had at other places tend to taste somewhat the same as each other, but each dish we ordered here tasted startlingly different than the next. Even the rice was delcious. The ingredients were clearly fresh and perfectly combined. The best aspect, for me, was that a few dishes were clearly labeled as vegan--a rarity for restaurants that serve meat. Be warned that the beers are not listed on the menu, but relayed by the waiter, and $8 a pint. This is the best Indian food I've ever had, so if you can afford it (our total for 4 people was around $100), you should certainly go there.
- Pros: Nice London-y atmosphere, fantastic food
- Cons: Price
Great Food, Good Atmosphere!
by marianthelibrarian
I love Indian food, but I'm not a connoisseur by any means. A samosa, some sag paneer and I'm a happy girl. My finace on the other hand-- he's super picky about his Indian food. So when I say that he LOVED this place, please understand that it's high praise indeed! :) We went on a Sunday night, and we were seated promptly. The ambiance was great-- low-key lighting, some London-ish decorations. The service was prompt, and the presentation of the food was lovely. The prices were good, too. We had a very good dining experience here, and we WILL go back. When you go, we recommend the moilee with the grilled sea bass-- yum!
Just OK

I actually went with Phoeneex (from previous post) to try this place out. All in all, the food was good -- the quality of the meat was definitely better than other places I've been to. However, the curry tasted the same to me. I did think this place was a bit pricey compared to other places. In addition, the food took forever to come considering the place was not at all packed. I was starving for quite awhile. The ambience was nice and the waiters were friendly. Was just OK.
- Pros: Good food
- Cons: Pricey, food took forever
