So Much More Than a Martial Arts Class
by Rudie
Master Fall is remarkable. He catches everything with all of the kids in the class. No one can get away with spacing out, or using their usual strategies for coping with attention loss - he sees what they all do and calls them on it. We wanted our son to learn discipline, self confidence, all the reasons why anyone enrolls in martial arts. Our 7 year old will learn these things in this environment. Our nanny says Master Fall is strict but it is with such kindness that, I think, the kids seem to know it is for their own good. Every time I stay for a class, I am shocked at how much my son has learned, including Korean and etiquette. And, how lovely is it that Master Fall often teaches the whole class carrying his baby boy in his arms? There are usually kids in the homework room working and the sense of community and respect is the greatest. This school is also a not-for-profit org. There is so much more than taekwondo going on in this space.
- Pros: Master Fall does not miss a thing
- Cons: I wish there were more adult classes
You won't find a TKD studio better than this one!
by AdamRBrown
Huge space, warm environment, nurturing instructors. I searched high and low for a martial arts studio and none other came close to the quality programs offered by Harlem TKD. I've been a student there for 3 and a half years and have loved every moment. You can take a basic class for free to see for yourself.
- Pros: Great for children and adults, close to B/C line, inexpensive, free first class, no pressure to join
- Cons: None
World Class TKD Instruction, Welcoming Environment
by kshell
After moving here from Atlanta, I was looking for a TKD place for my three kids (ages 10-16). I?m very particular about my children?s educational environment and I was impressed with Harlem Tae Kwon Do with the first visit. Prior to class, the dojang was filled with laughter as the uniformed students played friendly games of tag, racing, etc. even as others chatted quietly or began their warm-ups. When Master Fall approached the mat for class, the students immediately put away items and began preparing for class. The respect for their instructor and their dojang was clear. Master Fall conducted the class with firmness, encouragement and RESPECT. After the first class, I signed up my kids and even myself. In six months, I?ve lost 10 pounds without trying, found muscles I thought I would never see and carved a little of my own time by going to the morning classes for adults. I highly recommend Harlem TKD.
- Pros: Everyone is friendly; Progress at your own pace; Very encouraging; great for kids
- Cons: None
Great overall experience, excellent instructors, inviting community of students
by tamarindtree
I can not say enough about the sense of community this Dojang nurtures. Everyone is very friendly and helpful, and for someone like myself who is new to this sport/ martial art, I really appreciate the inviting nature among the students and Masters. The belt levels are all represented at the school, so you can learn from the advanced belts, and yet know there are many working towards that goal along with you.
The masters are amazing to watch. They are true masters of this art and yet excellent teachers. They are very encouraging, which is so important because it can be frustrating at times, however, they also encourage strong sense of discipline and respect. I leave each class feeling like I learned more about the values of TKD, that I had a moderate to hard workout, that I improved my skills, and that I had great time.
I highly encourage interested people to try this out.
- Pros: Excellent instruction, encourageing community of students, close to C and B line
- Cons: none
