Great Italian market and restaurant
by Keith Wagstaff at Citysearch
This charming Woodside retail market sells Italian goods during the day and then transforms into a bustling restaurant serving handmade pasta at night.
exceptional

"had a wonderful dinner thursday nite (no reservations). boyfriend and i split the beef carpaccio, i had the ravioli filled with osso buco and he had the short ribs. unbelievable, is all i can say. i'm not a rib person and shy away from having ravioli out, having grown up on them in a traditional italian household. the ingredients were incredibly fresh and i was sure to tell the owner we were thoroughly impressed. he had us join him in the bar area for a glass of prosecco. i asked the sommelier for advice on wine (be sure to give them a price point) and it was great. thursday nite provides opera singing. there were 3 performers who had varying styles and were beyond enjoyable. and about the water, who cares! if you don't like their style, don't go. their food is exceptional and the service sincere."
- Pros: quality and freshness of ingredients, music, romantic
- Cons: rushed just a bit
This was THE best meal I have ever eaten in a restaurant,,,from start to finish
by harleyhuni at Citysearch
We were four people who frequent good restaurants quite often. We started off with a red and a white wine,,both of which were spectacular. The artichoke puree sitting a bed red pepper/pancetta was so amazingly light and delicous. I did not want it to be gone. We ordered the fettucinni alfredo as our second course, split between the four of us..we just had to taste it. Well, our entrees came out first and when they corrected the mistake and they wheeled out the cheese wheel and prepared our fettuccini tableside, we were in heaven. It was clear to me that this was indeed their house special. It was to die for! OK, then our entrees came out, and although I was preparing myself for a warmed over plate, we all got fresh entrees, cooked to perfection. The short ribs were the most tender I have ever eaten. Again, heaven. I also have to say that the other people in my party were raving about their dishes. They had the special risotto, special baby lamp chops and the swordfish. There wasn't a morsel of food left on our dishes. The desserts were equally sublime. We had the carmelized banana and the chocolate desserts. Besides the glitch with the early arriving entrees that they corrected, the service was outstanding. Vinny, our waiter knows this place inside and out...was right on top of everything and gave us really great service (despite the mix up). The owner presented our table with a glass of champagne each just because he liked us. After dinner we went to the bar for after dinner drinks. The Moscato was the best I've ever had! The place can be a bit noisy (there is live music on weekends), but it is so pretty inside (you'd never know it was a store during the day.) I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves and appreciates good food. It is definitely served here.
- Pros: Outstanding food, Pretty decor, Service
- Cons: A bit noisy on weekends.

Italian food market in Woodside morphs at night into a full-blown, candlelit restaurant.
worst.service.ever.

I read some reviews about the bad service, but I just figured they were high maintenance people writing the reviews, I mean could it really be that bad?yes, yes it could.
I called to make reservations for a Saturday evening, they don?t take them for parties of 2, so we get there before the dinner rush around 7:15 (with at least 10 tables open) and they give us a horrible table because we don?t have reservations. When I asked for another table, they said all of the others we reserved. They offer to seat us in the bar section, but as soon as we are seated there; the bartender decides to ?eat? his dinner which was actually sucking on his spaghetti like a 3 year old. Needless to say we left and didn?t even bother spending money here. The funny thing is they didn?t understand why we wanted to leave after they treated us terribly.
The place is a joke, and it makes me embarrassed to be from Queens.
- Pros: It is hidden down a dark street, so you will probably never go there
- Cons: the fact that it exists
Mixed Feelings
by carolina36 at Citysearch
I agree that the food is exceptional. The decor is a mix of restaurant and deli. The music is a little over bearing. The waitstaff is exceptional. There are two owners and thats where the mixed review stands. I believe that they are father and son... The difference lies in which one is commanding the room. The father is a gracious host who has full command of his dining room. The son is extremely pompous and arrogant which brushes of on the overall atmosphere of the place. Highly recommended when dad is around. Not recommended at all when it's junior's night. Very Unfortunate!
Surprisingly Fantastic!

My husband and I happened upon this place really accidentally and couldn't believe what a gem we had discovered- in Woodside, no less!! The Service was outstanding, the food was everything we had hoped for and more! We told our friends about it after our experience and they are in love with the place- they have been there 3 times in the past month! Without hesitation the 4 of us agree that it has to be in the top 3 restaurants in the entire city in any category. As far as price goes I am never bitter to pay extra for quality food and service, it is when I go to over hyped Manhattan restaurants where the service is passable, the food is average and the prices are not in line with the quality of my experience that I feel ripped off.
- Pros: amazing food , best service ever, attn 2 detail in all
- Cons: location
