Terrible, Ruined My Shoes
by John Barrett
This company has some of the worst service I've ever encountered in New York. I cannot urge anyone reading this enough not to ever do business with them. I brought in two of my favoritte pairs of men's shoes to get re-heeled. The shoes had natural, un-painted (shoe-blacked) leather soles and I requested specifically that they not paint the leather and leave it natural. I got the shoes back and they had ignored my request and painted the shoes which ruins them. I asked them to sand the paint back off and two weeks later when I returned they hadn't done it. I asked the very rude manager to please give me back my money and he refused. Now after wasting hours at their shop I'm doing to have to file a dispute with my credit card money to get a refund so I can try and get someone else to fix them. Leather Spa was repeatedly rude and belligerent with me. They ruined my shoes and stole my money. If you have anything you care about I urge you to save yourself the grief of being ignored and go somewhere else.
- Pros: none, they're terrible
- Cons: don't give refunds for their mistakes, are rude and belliger
Stay far away from this place!

I have also gone to Shoe Service Plus which is now called Leather Spa for many years and had good results but for the past year, they have messed up everything I taken to them. A week ago I dropped off a bag from Marc Jacobs that needed to have a broken zipper pull replaced. I brought them a new pull that I had gotten from Marc Jacobs but when I picked they had used a different one that didn't fit and was a different color gold. They also put the pull on backwards so the Marc Jacobs name faces the bag! I am so mad because now I have to go back there again tomorrow and figure out why they would do such a thing. They had my name and number, they should have called me to ask if it was ok before they put this piece of junk on my bag. I will never go to them again. They charge very high prices, are rude and do shoddy work. The worst part is that they don't even care that they do bad work! I am telling everyone I know to stay away from this place! They make me so mad!
- Cons: Expensive, Shoddy Work, Rude
I have to start looking for new shoe repair shop :(
by elena22
I used to be a customer for years at the old location before they moved to a nicer bigger shop across the street called "Leather Spa" at 10 55th street.
Unfortunately, the old place craftsmanship didn't come along :(
First time I brought my Stewart Weitzman flip-flops , they possibly, spilt some glue over them and as they were trying to clean it up, they removed color in spots. Although, I was told to pay $ 35 for a messy job I wasn't too bent out of shape 'cause I paid only $100 for those flip-flops. I never used to have problems at these people before so I brought my $700 Giuseppe Zanotti booties for heel tip's replacement.
They cracked one heel. When I pointed it out to a guy with name tag "Louise" he said he can't do anything about it! I asked him to write on my receipt that I received my heels cracked. He hesitated for a minute then wrote: "scratched heel" after he cursed me out in spanish to his coworkers. Then he told another guy (in English, this time louder, so I could hear) to never take shoes from me again! Don't you worry, never again! I'm sick in my stomach!
One question: Where do they get all this confidence from?
These people are dishonest & crooks! Overrated overcharge

I'd been going to Shoe Service for 6 years (and had spent close to 5k there over the course of those 6 years) and though their service and workmanship USED TO BE above average, over the last year and a half they have completely deteriorated.
They have lost 4 pairs of my shoes in the last 6 months alone. I had a pair of brand new Chanel shoes sent there to have the heel fixed, they came back missing stones and when I showed them the stones which were not missing before, they called me a liar. I'd been patient even though they'd lost my shoes for MONTHS at a time and dealt with their OBSCENE prices, but this was ridiculous.
Not to mention I have countless friends and clients who have had horrible experiences there - they warned me not to keep going there, but I didn't listen.
If you want quality shoe repair, use Angelo's on 53rd & 5th or Jims on 59th. Better prices, excellent customer service. Very organized.
THE WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER EVER HAD
by amkstew
I brought two pairs of shoes there to have repaired recently. One pair was going to be resoled and another had a cosmetic repair. When I got to the store, they had lost my shoes. After I waited for an hour for them to find them, they weren't done. "Oh another two weeks we are understaffed" after they had been there already for two weeks. I called the day before and they said they were done! After I threatened to track down the manage/owner "David" who can't seem to ever be found, they said they would have them done this morning by 10. They baited and switched, they resoled only HALF of the sole so now my $700 Louboutin's look like Payless shoes. After paying $141 to have repairs done they said they would do the "whole sole" for another $30. The absolute nerve. I will make it my business to tell every woman I know and every single shoe associate from Manolo to Bergdoff that this place is an absolute rip off. DO NOT BRING ANYTHING TO THIS STORE, DO NOT GIVE THESE CRIMINALS BUSINESS. THEY COMPLETELY MISREPRESENT THE WORK THEY ARE DOING. I have put in a claim with the appropriate business watchdog . I hope this business is shut down for ripping off consumers.
- Pros: WORST SERVICE EVER
- Cons: WORST SERVICE EVER
Honest business, quality results, reasonable price.

In my last visit to NYC I decided to take in my 7 year old Ferragamo purse that I use in my frequent travels, hoping for a plan to salvage it. Well, they did it! They communicated with Ferragamo and the bottom line is that my old purse has been restored and returned to me!
Just ask for Robert and he will take care of your needs. He is an intelligent, honest, and dilligent guy.
Misssjb.
- Pros: They do a good job.
- Cons: It is a small store and it gets packed.
Amazing shoe guys!!!
by misschristina
I scuffed a pair of Luciano Padovans really badly, and brought them to this place for repair. I thought for sure the shoes were irreparable. When I picked them up 5 days later, I thought the guys turned back time, because my shoes looked BRAND-SPANKING NEW!!! It was as if I never wore them!!! I am utterly amazed at the quality of their service. Although I'm reading the other reviews about the owner with a bad attitude, and negative repair results, I sure hope the amazing experience I've encountered can continue unchanged.
- Pros: amazing repair, shoes looked brand new
Great work

I've been going to Shoe Service for years. They are, by far, the most exceptional shoe repair store in New York City. My dog has chewed my shoes to shreads and Shoe Service always manages to repair them to better--than-brand new shape. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
No Longer A Customer
by cbgb1234
I used to be a customer of this shoe-repair business, but had not been back in a few years. Well, after working in this neighborhood again, I recently brought in two pairs of shoes to be repaired. Mens shoes that needed new heels, a little glue where the leather sole met the rubber sole and leather inside the shoe at the heel. After charging me $102 for relatively minor and simple repairs...the shoes were not ready at the time they promised. So, of course, I had to come back later that day. It took them forever to find my shoes, and then after a completely useless employee was unable to answer my question about the shoddy-looking glue job, I asked to speak to the owner. I pointed out that the sole looked bad (the part on the side that you can see) and was unsatisfied that they did not have them ready when promised as well as making me wait 10-15 minutes while they "located" my shoes. My comments were met with a very negative attitude. At that point, I tried to get some kind of discount for the poor service and quality of repair. That comment was met with an even worse attitude by the owner. He tried to explain that the subway problems that morning were the cause for delay, even though they had my shoes for FIVE days. Normally I would have let it go, but he was such a mean person that I commented that I might have to find a new shop; one with a better attitude toward customer service. At that, he replied, "with your attitude, I do not want your business!" Well, guess what, pal, your wish just came true.
I also see that New York Magazine has rated this shop the most overrated shoe repair shop. I would recommend going somewhere else. Seriously.
What a Heel!

I took a beautiful pair of new boots and Roger Vivier shoes to this shop for light stretching. Unfortunately, the boots were completely ruined with large 4" holes burned clear through the leather uppers. The shoes have what appear to be cracks and bubbles on the sides.
While I assume that the machine used for the stretching was set too hot, the shop assumed no responsibility for the workmanship and actually faulted the leather. Of course, all of you fashionistas know that Jimmy Choo and Roger Vivier use the highest quality leather/materials.
Perhaps more shocking than the condition of my footwear was the manner in which the shop owner handled the situation. I simply wanted an explanation and an apology for the damage (I never mentioned the topic of compensation). Instead the owner berated me in front of a store full of customers. I was directed to the small print disclaimer on the receipt, wherein the shop assumes no responsibility for their service.
Please be careful and perhaps youll want to take your top quality shoes and boots to a shop that actually stands behind its work.
- Cons: Completely destroyed $1, 000+ in leather goods
