Yummy

My friends have been bugging me to go to Suenos for a while and I finally got there recently. Delicious food that tasted very fresh and cooked perfectly. Drinks were also excellent as was the waitress we had that night. Definitely recommended

nothing special

by tomrady75 at Citysearch

Didn't think the food was really impressive - it was not horrible, but nothing special. Ordered the baby spinach and the hanger steak . Both were pretty forgettable.

Didn't really enjoy the ambiance or service either. The service wasn?t so good as I thought.

This place has definitely been on my list of places to go for a while, glad I can finally check it off! Won't be going back - too many better places in town.

Good. That's about it. For the price, perhaps I expected too much. The menu underwhelmed (though the dessert was great). The service was neither friendly, attentive, nor helpful. I can now check it off the list, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Exceptionally tasty, refined Mexican dishes in a stimulating, tropical-hued den.

by Contributor at Citysearch

In Short
Down a little alley and past the overflowing, convivial front bar area, the dining room glows in shades of peach, fuchsia and tangerine. Plush booths surround a glassed-in terrarium, adding a bit of air and spectacle to a space that might otherwise feel cramped. The dense, salty guacamole is absolutely superlative; a fava bean and goat cheese empanada is a light and delicious starter. Goat chunks, steamed to implausible tenderness in beer and coated with a thick, smoky spice rub make a memorable entree, as do enchiladas filled with roasted chicken and squash blossoms and topped with a light-but-rich pumpkin-seed sauce.

Hits: This gentle updating of Mexican cooking is very friendly to the palate, though some dishes weigh a bit heavy on the stomach.

Misses: When it's crowded, the staff gets harried, which can take a toll on the dining experience at peak hours.

Finest Mexican Dining in NYC

by htower at Citysearch

Went here on Saturday night. Started off w/some margaritas which were excellent! Then met my party for dinner. I wanted to start off by saying that with so many of us, the service was exceptional. They were very attentive. The ambiance was stimulating and the food was exceptional!! I had the Tamarind Hanger Steak, it was phenominal! This is by far the best authentic Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. The appetizers were delicious and the desserts were the best I've ever had in a long time. I will continue to refer my friends and will continue to keep going to Suenos!! Love this place.

  • Pros: Excellent Mexican Food
  • Cons: Bar is a little small

Best Mexican Food in the City

by vianneyd429 at Citysearch

My friends and I celebrated birthdays. It was a reservation of about 17 people. The drinks were fantastic...the food was exceptional...and the service was spectacular. They took really good care of us. The ambiance was great! I had a blast. They did no mess up anyone's order or anything. The best part was the dessert!! I LOVED the churros and the guava pastries!!! I will definitely recommend this place to everyone I know. Thanks!!

  • Pros: Mexican food was exceptional
  • Cons: Small bar

ONE OF THE BETTER MEXICAN PLACES IN NYC...

by pleasegodnotme2 at Citysearch

I made reservations for my girlfriend and I on OpenTable for a Thursday night. We arrived a 1/2 hour early and were seated promptly (it was a slower night). We ordered two margaritas to start. Now, they are eleven bucks each, but I've paid more for worse and these were quite good, potent and my GF said it was "the perfect balance between tequila and sweetness" for her. We had two appetizers, the guacamole and some sweet plaintain/goat cheese empanadas. The guacamole was good, if not great...not enough spice for my taste, though it was very fresh. The chips were stale but it's served with tortillas that are wonderful. For the price, I still prefer the guacamole at Dos Caminos or Mama Mexico. One nice thing, and perhaps the best part, was the corn bread/black bean dip they serve as a complimentary appetizer. The dip is spicy with jalapeno and crema fresca in it, and the corn bread is actually quite tasty ...not overly sweet and definitely not tasting like out of a boxed mix. For the main course I had pork tacos ($20) and she had grilled shrimp served individually on a sweet plaintain with a dollop of guacamole ($20). My tacos were a play on BBQ as it was served with a cranberry/tequila compote and shredded cabbage. Overall they were quite tasty but the presentation was plain and the dish itself could've used a second side-dish as it felt empty. Her shrimp fared better than my tacos and if we had known there'd be that much guac on her plate we wouldn't have ordered the appetizer. The shrimp was good (not too dry and not overly spiced) and the plaintains definitely fit the plate well (not too mushy or sweet).

Our dessert was the best part. Churros with sides of caramel and chocolate. Simple and delicious, and only $8. Definitely a must have if you visit here.

Overall, while not necessarily worth the money (5 margs, 2 apps, 2 mains, 1 dessert = $170), it is par for the course here in NYC and therefore a resounding success.

  • Pros: Great Margaritas, Inventive Take on Mexican cuisine
  • Cons: Value for Money

Worth the wait!!!!

by LeesiNY at Citysearch

I am delighted to write when i first visited suenos for dinner on Cinco De Mayo, inspite the crowd the hostess was extrememly friendly and professional. She imediately gave us an update on our reservations because it was clear they were over booked given the big holiday. She estimated about a 40 minute wait, which i wasn't thrilled about but after having a "real deal" that our Bartender recommended, I was relaxed and realized everyone had to wait so I didnt take it personal. She would check back on me and my husband, and everyone hanging at the bar for that matter, to make sure we didnt need anything, which I though was very nice considering many people were NOT patient or polite to her or the rest of the staff. We did recieve a complimentary round of drinks as well as some other reservations that were patient and polite. Needless to say we were seated in the estimated time and the live band and great food made up for our wait. I had the salmon which was very good and my husband had the chilequiles. Over all the staff was nothing but polite and friendly. Not sure if I would go to a Mexican restaurant on a major Mexican Holiday but I will definitely be back to suenos sometime in the very near future.

  • Pros: They go above and beyond to make sure you are happy. Staff is friendly and engaging
  • Cons: wish it was bigger
