Get the lamb samosas

by blgerson

Pretty good Indian food. Also we dug the saag paneer and the tamarind sauce. Nice service as expected at an Indian place, and of course the King Fishers

Buttery Times!

by ThereSea

You may be a butter hog or you may be a butter snob. One thing to note is that the flavor of butter is mighty distinct in the dishes. You can go on butter patrol or you can add some butter to your fat roll. I chose the latter. The food was scrumptious and indulgent.

I dined here in a party of 10 and the experience was superb! The service was excellent. This is a great place to celebrate milestones, such as your husband's parole; the day you dumped your cheating ex; Athiest Day; or even your birthday. I will certainly dine here again.

delicious indian food

by msk83

Swagat is one of my favorite places for Indian food. The food is so fresh and delicious, and the people who work there are friendly and welcoming. I feel like I'm being welcomed into someone's home. I have only had the vegetarian food there and the dal (and all the specialties) is really, really good - but my date got some Tandoori mix the other day and it smelled unbelievable. He loved it - so meat eaters should try it. The staff always has great recommendations. Sometimes it's good to ask for extra spice because they tend to play it safe. I have been to many of the Indian restaurants in the city - down on 6th street and up in Curry Hill, but I still place Swagat up at the top of my list. Oh, and they have a special on weekends or lunch - some 13.95 for a full meal with all the extras that add up, like naan and raita and such...check it out.

  • Pros: fresh, genuine food, friendly service, good prices
  • Cons: not always spicy enough, ask for extra

Awful service

by spaigeroo

I placed an order for delivery and was treated terribly. After waiting 40 minutes for my food, I called to check that it was still on its way. They assured me the delivery guy would be there in 5 minutes. 10 minutes later the delivery guy did call, but when I went downstairs to pick up the food he wasn't there. I tried calling him back to check his address but he hung up on me. I finally called the restaurant back, but they were so rude that I ended up canceling my order. Don't order from here. There are other places that will treat you like they actually care about their customers.

Great food with service in a cozy setting

by mayble19

Small cozy restaurant on the upper west side, by the museum of natural history. Excellent service and food. The staff are very attentive and accommodate to your taste. The Peshwari naan melts in your mouth. The spices on the curry dishes are great - beware when you order extra spicy.....its spicy - have some yogurt, bread or mild around you. My boyfriend, who is Indian was couldn't even handle the spice. It's worth a trip uptown - the unforgotten area in the city.

  • Pros: Great food and service in a cozy restuarant
  • Cons: Parking

Great value

by deliciojones

While it certainly isn't the most luxurious restaurant in NYC, my significant other and I found the food, service and atmosphere all to be well- above average for the price range. The space is tiny, but decorated tastefully enough with exposed brick walls and ivory linens. The three gentlemen working the front of the house all seemed to work together harmoniously, and the food, while not the greatest Indian I've ever experienced, was delicious, well seasoned, and served hot. (I hate crappy Indian food buffets with lukewarm food!)

Good Indian food..

by latinjewel98

I am a fan of Indian food and going to this place doesn't change that. Small but nice place. Nice decor although nothing to brag about. Really good service and of course amazing food. Affordable prices. Had appetizer, drinks, and main course and compare to the rest of NYC this place was inexpensive. Nice for dates.

Terrible Service!

by eg1234

My first and last visit! Walked in on a Saturday afternoon and we were the only customers in the restaurant. Although, there were four waiters and a manager working, we were ignored, rushed to order and treated like a nuisance. The icing on the cake was having a mistake on our bill and then having the manager argue out loud with me about a side order of Nan bread! I was outraged, not about the couple of dollars, but on the horrible service. Would not recommend to anyone!

  • Pros: food was average
  • Cons: Terrible service

Bad Food, Horrible Service.

by julienyc

Ordered a vegetarian dish which is traditionally not very spicy. When I wanted to exchange it after taking one bite and realizing that it was very hot, management refused to exchange the dish saying, "What do you want me to do? Serve it to someone else?" Incredible. Absolutely no customer service. I would never go back again/
