I had dinner with a friend during the week and the food was so so. I wasn't impressed with the menu or cuisine. I think this place is comprable to Spice which is MUCH cheaper. The food was extremely overpriced. I suggest other places in the city ie. Buddakan . This place is OVERRATED!!

Pros: great ambiance

Cons: food

I went last friday with a party of 5, when I had a reservation of 4. I arrived early and grabbed a Jack and Coke. I also asked if I could switch it to 5, which they said no problem. After all of our party arrived, we sat down in the lower floor, and the place looked nice; the decor very southeast Asia inspired. For apps we shared the samosas, which were not indian style with lots of potatoes, but mostly chicken. It was good, but not what I wanted, as I was really expecting more starch. The yogurt sauce was good though. The mussels came in a wonderful broth and were just barely cooked, perfect. The Thai chicken wings however, weremy favorite, having a good deal of crunch and heat. The mango slices went very well with that. The crunchy squid salad was very crunchy fried calamari but the squid itself was not chewy at all. The salad greens themselves were average but the squid helped bring out more flavors. The main dishes we had were the red snapper which was nice and flaky, the curry duck, and the grilled chicken. The duck was delicious as was the curry over a nice plate of sticky rice. The chicken was very moist and juicy with lots of good flavor due to the heavy spices on top. We ordered a side of baby corn and broccoli as well and that was the most disappointing side dish. True, it was fresh but it didn't taste of anything special and the proportions were small considering the vegetables used. Most of us had a dessert as well, and I ordered the Ovaltine Kulfi. Man, I should have gotten a coffee with that. It's very thick and sweet. It was very good though. Overall, I'd say the chicken wings and the curry duck were my favorite. I think it's definitely worth a trip out.

Pros: Food was good and service was spot on

Cons: Veggie side dish was overpriced.

I don't know what all the complaining is about. We went on Friday night around 10:00 during RW and other than a ridiculously crowded front desk area and a slightly rude host (only one was rude and when we complained the head guy made it up to us w/free drinks), the experience was really great. We were warned about the food coming out "when it's ready" so I was prepared for a non-traditional service but everything came out in the succession we wanted. The food was very tasty and the service was fine. Our waiter was a bit of a depressed flake but he got the job done and tha'ts all that matters. I would probably be a flake too if I had to wear those crazy outfits. The vibe in this place is really great - very tropical, very cool, and as the night wears on, it feels more like a relaxed club than a restaurant.. I would go back for sure. It's definitley my favorite JG place. And don't be intimidated - there were all types there, all ages, not just 20-something models. The decor is beautiful and amazing. It's worth a visit if you can get in.

Pros: Food, decor, vibe, drinks

Cons: Crazy crowded especially the bar, hard to get a res

I stopped in for a quick bite with a friend the other night. We were sat immediately. The server was friendly and extremely patient with us and gave great suggestions on what to order when I asked for help deciding. Our food started coming out, no exaggeration, 5 minutes after we ordered. Everything was delicious and fresh! I was mostly amazed at the service considering how large the restaurant is. I felt like we had VIP treatment! I will return to Spice Market again and again!

Pros: First Class Service, Delicious Food!

Cons: Nothing

In short: the food is WAY TOO SPICY and i mean extremely hot, so hot that you need a lot of water with it... We could not say on any of the dishes that it tastes amazing, maximum nice, and some not even nice (the lobster role did not taste like lobster, the samosa was tasteless. Cocktails were very good but it's not the reason for going there.

Pros: nice cocktails

Cons: food is extremely hot and too spicey

I just did not have a good experience at Spice Market. Sadly, I was extremely excited about this restaurant and decided to stop in for lunch with a friend. The host sat us at an incdredible table in the center by the open double doors. We sat there for about 10 minutes and no one gave us a menu. So we had to ask the host for our menus. Then we sat for another 20-25 minutes and not one waiter came up to us to take our order or to even say hello. We were very confused because all the tables around us were getting served except us. My friend had to get up and hunt down the host again to get us a waiter. After that we were a little frustrated...now to the food: I ordered the pad thai, and it was VERY acidic. I have had lots of padthai at several NY thai places, and im sad to say that this was the ultimate worst. I couldn't even eat it because it was so acidic. The coconut rice was mediocre, I like mine to be a little sweeter. Overrall, it was a disappointment, but the ambience and setting was beautiful. I would definitely go again but only for drinks.

Pros: Ambience, Setting

Cons: service and food

Spice market is one of the places that stand out on Meatpacking District. It is a wonderful restaurant, great food, with a dark brown decor that is unique in the neighborhood. It also has a small bar at the entrance which is nice for cozy night-outs and the so-called Chef's tables are great for eating while watching the busy life in the kitchen. Unfortunately, the whole experience is a let-down due to exceptionally rude staff (thankfully not all). I have been there numerous times, and unfortunately the experience has become worse and worse. The manager, Eric Olson, is especially a failure for not listening to his customers and being rude to them. Do not go there until new management takes over...

We took my dad for his 70th birthday . I cannot even begin to tell you what a lousy time we had. The main problem was that they have a weird system of ordering . Some got their main dish before their soup , or appetizers. We were a party of 10 and no one knew which dish would would come out first . Biggest problem was when they served my sister lamb instead of chicken!!!! They forgot my newphew's dish .Overall the decor was lovely but their method of handling the orders was lousy. The waitress said that they have 3 different kitchens and has no idea which part of our order will come first . What a stupid concept. The place was a bad idea. We had a reservation for Tabla wish we had gone back there instead.

Outstanding Asian small plates, breathtaking decor and one of the hottest scenes in the city--Jean-Georges has done it again.  See the full editorial review.

What to Drink

The cocktail list includes a refreshing passion fruit and champagne cocktail called a "pattaya." Several wines by the glass are offered, including a crisp Clairette ($8) that pairs nicely with much of the menu.
