Very Good Food and Very Bad Service
by LEXY
I went there with my husband for my birthday. It took more than 2 hours to finish the dinner and they forgot my birthday cake although my husband called &e-mail to make sure I get it..... Very good food, (except KOBE BEEF was cold and rare) but not worth to pay $$$,
- Pros: Good Food
- Cons: Bad Service
Outstanding japanese kitchen

I went to Megu yesterday and first of all sat down at the bar and had a drink. I had the cocktail called Blessing which was some Vodka, pomegranate juice and strawberrys.
Very refreshing and good.
We waited quite a while although we had made our reservation long time in advance and got there quite early.
But the food made up for it.
I had sushi and the fish was awesome. Very fresh and tasty. After that i ordered the Kobe beaf which was amazing. I could cut t with my spoon!
All in all a very cool place escpecially regarding the decoration. They have an ice buddah carved out everyday!
- Cons: Long waiting times
Very good, not great...

The food was very good, but it won't bloww you away unless you've never been to one of the finer Japanese fusion or sushi restaurants in NYC. We ordered crispy tofu, salmon tartare, grilled lamp chops, and kobe steak carpacchio. The tofy and tartare were excellent, the lamp chops and kobe steak were just ok (too much sauce drowned the taste of the kobe). We also ordered drinks, a peach puree and champagne mixed and a Rhytyhm Nation (blue curacao, vodka). Also both good for about $17 each. The ambience and setting of the restaurant was very inviting and romantic. Not as surreal as Buddakan or Nobu 57, but still eye-catching and dim enough to offer ambience. The big ice sculpture of Buddha within a fountain is an amazing centerpiece for the main room. The service definitely needs improvement. The first thing we ordered was Megu's spring water.. the waiter gave us "Still water". He did apologize, but when we ordered another bottle of Spring water, he brings us still water again and we told him to please bring spring! Hello McFly! We also noticed that people to the tables on either side of us were given complimentary samples of grilled meat the chef prepared. We were never offered any, so I felt slighted. Another complaint -while sitting down, one of the waiters passing by must've bumped my chair at least twice by accident, offering no apology. Also, it's difficult to hear the waiters talk and describe some of the dishes you're eating with the music a little too loud. So if you don't mind subpar service in return for above average food in a nice setting, then this might be the place for you. There's too many other Zagat rated gems in the city I want to try, so I wont be back.
- Pros: Ambience, very good food
- Cons: Subpar service.
Amazing!!

I went to Megu for the first time this weekend and it was everything I expected and more. The interior is beautiful, the food is amazing and everyone there is so friendly and attentive. The Rikyu Steak is to die for.
- Pros: Great Sake Selection and Food
Was it worth the price?

I had heard much about Megu and decided to try it. The sashimi was devine, especially the salmon, which melted in my mouth. The sushi, came with miso soup, was good, but nothing exceptional. The steak on the hot stone was a bit tough. Overall, the tasting menu seemed ill-designed as the courses didn't flow from one to the next. The service was good, except that the waiters muttered the description of the dishes under the sometimes pounding music, making it very hard to hear. And where was the kobe beef capaccio I ordered?
- Pros: Elegant setting
- Cons: The music is a distraction half way through the meal.
Wow!

Went to Megu with friends last night and was blown away from the start. We all entered in on a special "chefs tasting menu" and our waiter took over from there from Kobe steak to sushi and awesome desserts . The atmosphere is lovely in the main room and the upstairs lounge( kind of clubby). We will be back.
- Pros: friendly staff, food
- Cons: it had to end
Not worth the money

The wait staff was very pleasant, but I was there for the food. Unfortunately, it was disappointing. When we first walked into the dining area, we were greeted with a loud “…hey!” I didn’t think much of it, but throughout the evening, we were hearing “…hey!” or “…say!” Finally, we asked what the wait staffs were saying/doing. It was supposed to be “irasshaimase!” which means “Welcome” in Japanese. We laughed over that one. That aside, I was very surprised at the food. I had Kobe beef which came with a small bowl of rice. The beef was almost salty (tasted like it was marinated in soy sauce for weeks) and the rice? It was over done. Isn’t rice one of the staples of Japan? Megu’s not exactly a traditional Japanese restaurant, but how do you get rice wrong? It was rice cake rather than rice. Would I recommend the restaurant? Only if they have no clue what Japanese food is supposed to be like.
- Pros: Service
- Cons: Food
Perfection

I've dined at Megu several times over the years and the experience has always been very pleasant. The staff is great and the food is even better! By far, my favorites are the different types of Kobe Beef on their menu. If there is ever a wait, I recommend going into their lounge upstairs to have a drink or two before dinner. The kimono textiles are beautiful!!
- Pros: Food & Service
