Dr. Hedley is a wonderful doctor. She is very nice, sweet, and appears to be non-judgmental. The downside to her, however, is that it TAKES FOREVER to get an appointment with her. I called today (July 16, 2008) to schedule an appointment for a yearly check-up and I was told that nothing would be available until October 1. As a school teacher with extremely limited time during the school year, October 1st is just not a feasible option for me. So as much as it bothers me to switch doctors, especially since I have been seeing Dr. Hedley from the time I was 18 (now I am 24), I feel I have no choice if I want to get checked out before the summer is over. I am going to try Dr. Gabriela Olaru since she has received good reviews on CitySearch. I called today to schedule an appointment and I will be seeing her next week. I will be sure to post how things went with this doctor.

I recently had an emergency and needed to come in. I was refused an appointment because I was not pregnant and told the next available time I would be able to see Dr. Hedley would be 3 months away. I said that would mean that I would need to find a new doctor. The receptionist said "yup" and then hung on me. I was absolutely appalled. This is not how any patient should be treated, especially one in some distress. I had to write this out of principle.

I saw Dr. Headley for several years with no problem. But over time, it has become increasingly difficult to get an appointment or talk to her. When I had an emergency they refused to fit me in because I was not pregnant; I made three trips there and never got to see her. If you are not pregnant, and especially if you do not plan to become pregannt, see a different doctor!

Dr. Hedley Shawna is awesome! She makes you feel extremely comfortable and explains everything. She also takes out the time to answer any questions you may have. She is always looking out for the patient to make sure that they do not spend more then necessary. I will definitely not be going to another dr while she is still practicing. The only thing that is irritating is the staff. They arent as friendly but I am willing to put up with them to see her.

I reviewed these comments before making my appointment, have just returned, and wanted to share my experience. Although the receptionists are constantly answering a never-ending flow of phone calls and hardly make eye-contact, my wait wasn't too long (about 25 minutes at noon), and Dr. Hedley came right in to see me. She sat down and made me fee very comfortable, asking general medical questions while being able to have a bit of conversation involved as well. She was very helpful, spoke to me as an equal, seemed knowledgeable, interested and willing to give me her honest personal opinion. She was very friendly and respectful and I will definitely be going back. I am interested in my experience with the Doctor more than my greeting at the front desk, and can see why it may be sometimes difficult to get an immediate appointment with Dr. Hedley. She is great!

Unfortunately my experiences with Shawna Hedley's staff has been really bad. My appointment was canceled twice...and then they could not give me a new one within weeks... They were very rude on the phone and put me on hold for over 15 min. I will be looking for a new doctor now.

I would definitely recommend Dr. Hedley to my closest friends. I had what seemed like an uncomplicated pregnancy until it went to 42weeks and then I had to be induced. Throughout the process Dr. Hedley as well as her colleagues were always available, and the doctor on call -- Dr. Henry -- was at the hospital when the time came to deliver as well as on the phone with the attending staff during the labor to make sure that everything was done correctly. Dr. Hedley definitely makes you feel very at ease and never did I feel rushed, even when it was evident that she was running an hour or so behind she still answered to all of my questions. With respect to the staff, I do agree that there were times when they seemed quite rude and unprofessional. The nurse as well was very stiff and mechanical, however with that said when she did have to do the standard testing, not once did I get a bruise -- so I do believe she is good at what she does though not very personable. As far as waiting time goes -- yes it can be over an hour -- I've learned though that lunch time is the worse -- if you try to get in the morning typically it is not that bad.
Pros: Dr.Hedley really makes one feel at ease
Cons: Office Staff and Waiting Time Can be long

I am thrilled with Dr. Hedley. She's patient, compassionate, and very easy to talk to. I chose her based on the strength of these reviews and I'm glad I did. I'm a nervous mother-to-be with a million questions and I always feel like I have her full focus - a rare and wonderful trait in a doctor. (FYI: If you can't get in with her, I hear that all the doctors in her practice are great.) I've never had any problems with the staff. Perhaps they used to be difficult, but that issue seems to have been resolved.
Pros: Caring, attentive, easy to talk to
Cons: None that I've discovered

My first child was born under her guidance and support. Though I was unfortunate to have a miscarriage my first time before his birth at 9 weeks but Dr.Shawna was very supportive and listened to my grief. I I disgree with the first reviewer that she doesnt give time. In Fact, she always answered all our questions patiently with no hesitation unlike other docs who do u a favor by answering :)....... I will highly recommend her to everyone. She is the best and I look forward to delivering my second one through her.
Pros: Very Approachable, always returned calls, convinient location
Cons: Wait time

she's really cool. she came in and introduced herself by first name and wasn't condescending or anything. i don't know what was going on with the people in that first review, but my experience was great. i've been to a number of doctors who have been condescending and i do not appreciate it. i'm an ivy-league educated woman who does her own health research and i don't appreciate docs who treat me like a child. i don't recall negative experiences with the office staff, but i certainly have had those with other docs' offices and i would have registered if their staff was unfriendly. i have also looked far & wide for a good ob/gyn - even going so far as to see a male doctor before this one - but she's the best i've found in a while. ignore that first review.
Pros: Treats patient like her equal, not condescending
Cons: None that I recall.
