Dog whisperer
by AMOROSSO43
Dr.Sane and his staff are the greenwich village angels of veterinary medicine. There is a peacefull and welcoming energy that soothed me as soon as I walked in. My partner and I were the proud owners of a lovely 10 month old red nose pitbull angel who was terminally ill with a horrible heart condition that was exagerated by abuse of his first owners. In the short 2 and a half months we owned him, Dr. Sane and his staff did all they could to keep him comfortable but not overdose him with modern meds. I wish that Dr.Sane practiced human medicine , because I really trust him and believe he is the best clinician I have ever met. In today's digital world....very few doctors believe in diagnosing a patient from a clinical assessment. Everybody wants tests, and when those tests are done they want to do some more tests to be sure. Dr.Sane was an accurate diagnoser from the first visit and was not surprised by anything he saw. Bravo to him and his super friendly support crew.
- Pros: Great treatment, great vet, easy on the wallet
- Cons: not more like him in the city
Great Vet
by gsansone
I first brought my dog to Dr. Sane two years ago, and I have no complaints. He is always calm and caring with my dog, easing her nervous demeanor. He is reasonable and has never once asked me to agree to any course of treatment for my dog that wasn't necessary. I would recommend him to anyone.
- Pros: Really cares about his patients
- Cons: Nothing
Best in the West (well, east, actually, but he's the best)
by patrickshere
I've been taking my 4 cats to Dr. Sane for over 8 years and they love him. Every time we take them in, he goes over them carefully like it's the first time they've been there. His diagnoses have always been spot on he always takes the time to explain the problem and solution. One cat live to be 19 yrs old, thanks to his advice and treatment.
He also helps us out with our rescues and always bathes them and gives them a thorough check from head to paw. The support staff is very friendly and professional and the office is clean and comfortable. This is a good practice is a fun neighborhood with all the bells and whistles. Highly recommended!
- Pros: Great area, staff and overall practice
Top Notch Vet
by ExPatKat
Dr. Sane at GVAH is an awsome vet. He's taken amazing care of my cat and my dog for years now. He even started treating my dog when he was still working at a feline only clinic because he'd been my vet for so long. He diagnosed and appropriately treated my now ancient cat for two difficult chronic diseases and she continues to live on, despite her body's efforts to quit. AND she's comfortable, happy and cranky as ever. (That's her normal personality, not a result of anything else.) He seems to really love my cat and dog and vice versa. Gave me excellent advice and suffered my stupid new dog mom questions with humor and patience. Got us overseas and back again without trouble from the authorities. What more can I say about the man? He's great!
Also, the facility is really nice. Very clean, sterile in all the ways a hospital should be, friendly staff, knowledgeable too, easy, low stress environment for my pet. I never feel like he's making recommendations to jack up a price, in fact, has sent me elsewhere for hospitalization because he felt like my cat needed overnight observation his clinic didn't have at the time. All the right decisions. If you're looking for a good experience, great medicine and a doctor with a conscience, I think you've found him.
Lovely Place. Top Notch Dr. Very Patient
by minmogul
Dr. Sane is thorough, patient and serious about his work. He is cautious and caring. I've been taking my puppy there for six months and he has put up with all my nervous new mom questions, and never talks down to me. The place is super clean and the receptionists are truly stars! It is a great neighborhood place and I would recommend him to everyone.
- Pros: Patient, Knowledgeable, Last Minute Appointments
- Cons: None
DR. SANE IS A HORRIBLE VET
by thebigdawg
Dr. Sane is a horrible Vet. He prescribed some human medicine for my dog. When I asked him for the proper dosage, he told me to look it up on the Internet. I thought this was odd, but went to the internet on my own nonetheless. I could not find the dosage (or for that matter that this medicine had ever been prescribed for dogs before). When I asked him if he could give me the dosage, he said his computer was broken and I should just keep looking. I've contacted the State of NY to attempt to have his license revoked. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Recommended an unnecessary test. Not au fait with the PET PASSPORT SCEME.

"I took my Pug to Mr Tracy Sane in October (2008) to administer a tick and tapeworm treatment on my dog and stamp his "Pet Passport" as we were traveling back to the UK on the Queen Mary 2. I had previously checked with him that he was familiar with the Pet Passport Scheme and he assured me that he was. However, on arrival at his surgery on October 15th (24 HOURS BEFORE DEPARTURE) he informed me that I should have carried out a rabies test on my dog two weeks prior to travel! I told him I was sure this was not the case, as had I not done that when I had used my dog's pet passport to travel from the UK to Paris and back. In fact, I had never heard of the rabies test he mentioned. Despite this, he was adamant that I needed the test. After two hours of frantically phoning DEFRA, JFK and CUNARD I was referred to a vets (St Marks in the East Village) who WERE familiar with the Pet Passport Scheme and duly administered the tick and tape and stamped his passport. In short, my experience of Mr Sane was that he is NOT au fait with something he professes to know about. I certainly wont be going back to him with my dog, when I return to New York in April."
- Pros: Nice reception area and excellent receptionist.
- Cons: Overly confident. Recommended unnecessary test. Not au fait with the Pet Passport Scheme.
Excellent vet
by sinyc1
My old vet never took enough time with my cat and wasn't able to properly diagnose an ongoing health problem, plus he was always overbooked and running at least 30 minutes late. I am so glad I switched to GVAH! The vet was right on time and he was so gentle and patient with my cat, which made the whole experience so much easier for her. He took his time, asked a lot of questions, listened carefully to my concerns, and gave great advice - plus food and medicine samples. I highly recommend him!!!
- Pros: Kind, gentle, professional, punctual, excellent advice
- Cons: Price is slightly higher than some other vets, but I think it's worth it
Best Vet I could Find in Manhattan/Convenient West Village Location
by hovad123
I am very picky and protective with my rare breed puppy and not only did Dr. Sane put up with my barrage of questions, he also didn't try to take advantage of my paranoia. I am one of those people that can be suckered into almost anything when it comes to my dogs and he just explained everything calmly and reassured me. My puppy loves him which doesn't hurt. The prices are reasonable for a Manhattan vet, the facilities are immaculate and the staff is super nice.
GREAT VET!
- Pros: Everything
- Cons: I can't take him to New Jersey with me on the weekends
Amazing Vet Sorely Missed
by ghettob
I just moved away from The Village and I'm seriously considering how to continue to see Dr. Sane. The most amazing, thorough, and fairly priced vet I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. The Village has so many well-cared for pets because of this man. 4 thumbs up!
- Pros: Fantastic
- Cons: Not open on weekends
