Great moist but not too sweet cupcakes! I did not get to try them all but they four varieties I did try were all spectacular. About the customer service...while I was there someone who placed a special order on rush without notifying the baker came in to pick up her cake. Even they were accommodating the customer, the cake was just out of the oven and frosting it would be difficult as the baker explained. The customer was still mad and proceeded to rant and demand her money back which the owner gladly did. What do people expect from customer service? If they are quick, accurate and pleasant that is good service. These people are expected to be uber friendly, charming, witty, entertaining and extremely accommodating or else customers are quick to get huffy???

Cupcakes that aren't too sweet and very very tasty! And each cupcake is ontly $1.50 each! Cupcakes are moist and topped with lots of icing. Icing is not my thing but the cake portion is just heavenly!

Pros: moist and inexpensive cupcakes

Cons: a bit too much icing, but then again, i don't care for icing.

I'm a cupcake junkie and have been to many of the more well known bakeries- Magnolia, Buttercup, Crumbs, and I can honestly say that Sugar Sweet Sunshine has the best cupcakes overall. Their buttercream icing is NEVER too sweet and always light and fluffy. I have never gotten rude service from them and even ordered a cake not on their menu and they agreed to make it for me. The order came out perfect, the writing was exactly as I specified. When I asked her to see it she didn't hesitate at all and was glad to show me. I've never ever had a bad experience there and I visit Sugar Sweet Sunshine at least once a week. Don't pass judgement before you try it!! Definitely worth a try, you won't be sorry. BTW- the pistachio cupcakes are the best and my absolute favorite!

Pros: Pistachio, light buttercream icing, pumpkin spice

Cons: None.

These ladies (and gentlemen) make some damn good cupcakes (personally a huge fan of the pistachio cc's), and the cafe is a very cute spot to hang out and get your sugar and caffeine fix. What a great addition to the LES. I hope they stick around for a long time.

I felt I had to comment on that person who was actually indignant that the staff wouldn't let her/him in after they closed....how insensitive of that customer! These folks probably have been working their butts off all day, are beat, and this person thinks they should still serve him/her even after they are clearly closed? Is this customer living in la la land? In any case, you won't find a better vanilla cupcake anywhere, and you can order (they don't usually have these the display case) this amazing strawberry cake or cupcakes with cream cheese icing. The pistashio cupcakes are also to die for, moist and not too sweet. The chai latte with soy is very tasty also. It's a very nice place to just lounge in too, with possibly the last place in Manhattan where the coffee is still a dollar. People are nice and friendly and there is a definite non-hipster vibe to the place (which is a very good thing), even if it is populated by them. Don't miss this bakery if your in the neighborhood. Enjoy!

Pros: great cupcakes

Cons: my waistline

Has the world gone crazy? I wanted to write a review about this great bakery that I found through friends and I read some of the previous reviews. I couldn't believe the audacity of some people to find fault with an establishment for not wanting to re-open a store after it's already closed for the day. And to expect cheerful service once they were nice enough to accomodate the birthday friend. Would you pound on the door of the Post Office or your Doctor's office to demand service after hours...it's so rude! I work in retaul and I can tell you when the day is done...it's done. Furthermore, to the post who complained about the credit card minimum...what city does this person live in? It's in virtually every business except Starbucks who started the trend of being able to charge a $1.50 coffee. Small biz get charged per transaction and this is why many small biz are cash only. Minimums are pretty standard out there. Now, I've vented, I can give MY review. Since finding sugar Sweet sunshine, a couple weeks ago, I've been there several times and have quickly been making my way through their menu! I can't stop! Everything is delicious so far...great cupcakes, great puddings! And so nice! I love that the owners are there and when they're not, their staff (esp. the big burly man in the tank top who is so yummy sweet!!! and a treat all by himself!) represents them well. I'm so happy sugar sweet is in my life now. Don't let the naysayers sway you! This place is a keeper!

Pros: great cupcakes, puddings, service

Cons: none

My rating is based on customer service and not how good/bad the desserts are at this supposedly Sugar Sweet Sunshine. After a birthday dinner for a friend, the ten of us made a mad dash to the store to pick up a birthday cupcake before it closed. We were probably two minutes too late because there were still customers inside. Just as they were turning off display lights and stacking up chairs, we made a silent plea through the store window and door to allow us to make a purchase. My friend called the store since they refused to look at us and recognize our pound-puppy faces and allowed him to buy only one cupcake. A big burly man in a tank brought the one cupcake out with no sugar, no sweet, and no sunshine. In fact, he looked very sourly and displeased. He took my friends money, locked the door, and re-opened the door to give change back. Based on such an experience, I doubt if my friends and I will ever try these cupcakes.

Pros: We got one cupcake

Cons: Nine others got no cupcakes

I went to Sugar Sweet Sunshine because I heard all of this hype about how great their cupcakes were. I bought a few cupcakes and aside from each tasting exactly alike they were nauseating after only a few bites. This should not be the case with good buttercream. While I was there I saw one of the owners acting in a particularly nasty way to a customer (the one below with the credit card) and then no sooner did I witness that then I heard her yelling at someone on the phone. I honestly don't know what the big deal is about this place. There are so many better...Magnolia, Buttercup, etc. The cupcakes aren't very good and the management is nasty and obviously treats their customers in a horrible manner.

Pros: None

Cons: Miserable Management and Below Adequate Baked Goods

I recently went to Sugar Sweet Sunshine at my friend's suggestion because he said they have great Red Velvet Cupcakes. As a big fan of red velvet cupcakes I was excited. However, when I tried to pay with my credit card I was informed there was a $10.00 minimum on credit card purchases. When I complained that Credit Card Minimums are prohibited according to the Merchant Agreement that the Store entered into with Visa. The owner then came over and rudely agreed to take my credit card after stating it was her right to charge a credit card minimum and that if I had a problem with that I could shop elsewhere. She then agreed to take my credit card and stated that if I had a problem with it I could report it. As we were leaving the store she then preceded to enter into a profanity laced complaint about my insistenceTo on using a credit card. To top off what was already a bad experience...the cupcake wasn't good at all. Pros: Nothing. Cons: Incredibly rude and obnoxious owner, bad cupcakes.

After having had good cupcakes here, I decided to order a birthday cake for my son. I actually ordered 2 cakes, since I couldn't decide on the flavor. I ordered a chocolate cake in addition to a strawberry shortcake. Prior to placing the order, I asked the clerk if they put fresh strawberries on the cake. They asked someone in the back and confirmed that they in fact did. In additon, I asked them to write Happy 7th Birthday Matthew on the cake. When I arrived to pick up the cake, they pulled out the chocolate cake. They were ready to place it in the box without showing me first, but I asked them if I could take a look. They showed me the cake hesitantly, and I realized it only read Happy 7th Birthday. When I told them it was missing my son's name, they said rudely, "well, that's not what this slip says." I told them it was for my son's birthday and they sighed and said they could try to squeeze his name in. I asked them to do just that, and they squeezed his name along the outer rim of the cake. They were annoyed. They packed the chocolate cake up and went into the case to get the strawberry shortcake. They didn't want to show it to me, but I glanced over and noticed there were STRAWBERRY PRESERVES placed on top of the cake!!! I was mortified. When I questioned them, and reminded them that I was told they used FRESH strawberries, they chuckled and said, "we don't use REAL fresh strawberries." When i asked why, they simply replied , "well, that's just too expensive." Then they condescending told me that they used fresh strawberries that are frozen. They said it was the same thing. The strawberry preserves AND blue sprinkes melted into the whipped cream. The cake looked awful (like tie dye), and the owner (the woman who was helping me) knew it. She didn't care about the dissatisfied and unhappy look I had on my face. She simply gave me the boxes, turned around and walked away. I was flabbergasted. I will never go to this bakery again--not that the owners care.

Cons: rude owners, small and cramped, bad location, too sweet
