After taking the escalator down to the Whole Foods Market, a neverending variety of hot, cold, and prepared foods await. The best are the Mexican entrees like the ropa vieja and plantains, and Indian food like the tandoori chicken and naan. The grilled vegetables are good too. The food is literally neverending, and you can try some of this and some of that, because they charge you by weight. They also have many desserts, but (alas!) no sodas or diet drinks (except for bottled water) in sight.

The Scene
Ride the escalator down to this huge, brightly-lit market that's unparalleled in its approach to quality, cleanliness and customer care. Shop for quinoa, orchids and organic broccoli among Central Park locals, meandering tourists and local business people stopping in for a quick bite.

The Goods
There's plenty to please the lunch crowd: prepared soups and pastas, a make-your-own burrito section, a salad bar and a great sushi station. Find fresh-baked breads (flaky pastries, whole-grain muffins, crusty rolls); a full butcher shop offering a wide variety of meats (some free-range and low-fat); an impressive domestic and imported cheese selection and fresh seafood. Stock up on nonperishables like sugar-free cookies, organic cereals, juices, wheat pastas and canned soups. The immaculate, colorful stacks of fruits and vegetables explain why price is of no concern here. Each nectarine, cipollini onion and organic tomato is a perfect specimen.

...they have someone standing there to make sure you do just that. whole foods isn't the cheapest place to get groceries (however, their store brand, 365, is comparably priced) but they have a good salad bar and prepared-foods section. everyone who works here is pretty nice and helpful, and they have a good selection of things. they discourage sampling, which is slightly irritating, but you can usually get away with it anyway. the check-out line can look frighteningly long, but it moves at a decent pace.

Whole Foods has a fantastic selection of natural and organic products, with a great prepared foods section and cafe. Their produce is just beautiful. Prices are a little high but the quality makes it worthwhile.

I have visited the new Columbus Circle Time Warner Center a few times now, and the only reason I ever go there is to visit the Whole Foods Market on the bottom floor. This place is incredible. They have only the freshest and most beautiful produce. The grocery items include many healthy choices with organic stuff and oat-containing products. Probably the most fun part of this experience is the prepared foods section. Rows and rows of incredible choices, by the pound salad bars, hot ethnic foods, pizza by the foot, sushi (that looks delicious), and anything else you could imagine. They have a wall of different kinds of olives and lots and lots of cheeses. Mmmmm! It's all so good!

I love it because I can go at any time of the day and pick up a salad or sandwich or any variety of other prepared foods as well as usual grocery items which are comparable or lower to other manhattan grocers. I can also pick up fresh baked breads, bakery items, fresh meats and seafoods and a wonderful selection of produce which are items that I ultimately avoid at regular grocers because of lack of selection and poor quality.

I hate Whole Foods because when I get prepared foods, bakery items or even a box of granola bars, everything I got faintly tasted like egg rolls.

I'll continue to shop there for my other items and sadly, wait in line like the rest of you who will go along with me and stand in line for 15 years but I must know: Why does it taste like egg rolls?

  • Pros: Cornucopia of choices, Decent Prices
  • Cons: Super Long Lines, Egg Roll Food Taste, Bad Layout/Crowded

IF you ever want to go to this whole foods get ready to wait in line. I love Whole Foods just about anywhere but this one is always jampacked full of people and it always takes a long time to check out. My advice: buy a Jamba Juice and drink it while you wait in line.

Being from Los Angeles, Whole Foods has always been a favorite groccery store of mine. I was pleased to find one here and happily splurged on old favorites of mine. I also love to eat lunch there, their vegetable somsa at the Indian bar is DELICIOUS, especially with their yogurt sauce. THeir chicken rice soup is pretty good, too. Overal, I recommend this place for the best organic foods. BTW it is not cheap!

  • Pros: fast lines, great selection, organic
  • Cons: hard to find-, spot to eat-, at lunchtime!

Whole foods is amazing! They not only have a variety of produce and other natural goods to choose from for your kitchen, but they also offer an array of bath and beauty products. Some of their popular brands that I like include J.A.S.O.N. and Burt's Bees.

PROS: All natural foods and products
