Fraudulent, Thieving, Rude Establishment. Stay away!

by JOT

The owner stole $10 from me. I owed $10 and gave him a $20. He did not give me change and instead ignored me, even though it was a very slow night. When I asked him, he pretended that he had not even served me at all, as if to make me appear stupid. He called me a liar in front of all my friends, he intentionally tried to humiliate me. I argued politely with him and we came to a compromise where he provided two drink vouchers. Ten minutes later though, he had me physically removed from the bar when I tried to find out his name (for BBB reporting purposes). On the way out, the bouncer "accidentally" dropped a $10 bill on the sidewalk, as if to suggest that I had lost my money on the street and not to the dishonest, conniving owner. I refused to pick up the money, knowing how the scam worked. They attempt to rob unsuspecting customers, then unsubtley buy them off if said victims catch on to the tricks. The owner came out and threatened to call the police on *me,* the person who had just been swindled and manhandled. I intend to file Better Business Bureau and Consumer Protection reports, if you have similar experiences, please email me.

NEVER GOING BACK

by Lagsalot

Planned a promotional party for our film company here and got jerked around by the owner and manager from the second we got there.

First nobody was there to let us in at the scheduled time. When we got in an HOUR late, we were informed that they had planned TWO other parties that night, so we couldn't use the back room, raffle off the gift items we'd brought (because we couldn't make announcements that would break the music that WE PROVIDED!), or show any graphic images. At a porn-themed party they'd agreed to have.

The owner would not let in friends of the promotional team who were throwing the party, saying they weren't on "the list," even though there was no list. The drinks were overpriced. Because there were THREE parties going on on, it was so hot and crowded you could hardly move, especially because the space is smaller than advertised.

NEVER going back.

  • Pros: There's booze.
  • Cons: Ownership and management are horrible.

A neighborhood crowd gets cozy at this mainstream East Village boozin' spot.

by Contributor

Large fake plants, zebra-striped banquettes and a lone disco ball twirling in the corner make for a dressing that only slightly spruces up the main dance floor area. Those wanting to relax with a drink head to the white-walled, white padded-leather side room. Singles on the prowl may appreciate the tight surroundings, which quickly force patrons to get up-close and personal in a meat market-like atmosphere. A young, mixed, 20-something crowd grooves to Top 40 tunes on weekends, with sparser crowds during the week. The back hallway with bathrooms next to the DJ booth offer a more tranquil hangout spot, where conversation inevitably draws in the next stranger in line.

too crowded!!!!

by SexiAndSmart

Me and a friend looked at the reivews for Plan B and thought we can give it a try. You definitely cannot judge this place by the outside. From the outside, it does not look too small, but it in the inside it was way to small. I don't know if it was too packed or what.. but we had to get out of there! We paid a cover charge and struggled and was pushed through the crowd to check out the back because we always look around. Plan B is the type of place where you order a drink and someone spills it right on you before you can take a sip!! ugh.. what a waste. We went to Solas right around the neighborhood and had a blast. Solas is more roomy since it has 2 floors.

I am warning you.. do not go to Plan B if you dont like overcrowded places!

  • Pros: NONE
  • Cons: crowded, cannot move, music did not sound good for the minute i was there, not trendy, no dancing

Way Too Crowded!

by samanthacharming

The only reason my friends and I went to Plan B was to see a certain DJ spin. I had heard about how crowded it was, and sure enough, they were true. After a $5 cover + $3 coat check, we had stayed for an hour. We would've left sooner but we wanted to make the best of it and tried to dance, but it was nearly impossible to move anywhere without people bumping into you... and people weren't even dancing anyway. On top of it, it wasn't dark enough; we had moved to the entrance where there was more room, but there isn't a speaker installed there so we couldn't even hear the awesome music being played.

  • Pros: Good music, location
  • Cons: crowded, unattractive drunk people falling everywhere

Great music on Fridays

by KSee

I've been to Plan B twice on Friday nights and both experiences were consistently good. One of Fridays the DJ was amazing and mixed different types of music really well (mainly hip hop with some other cool stuff mixed in). I like Plan B as a low key place to hang out without all the pomp and circumstance of the city. I still like the uppity, cutesy lounges but this place I think is a nice balance and also a great area. Better to get there early since it's not a huge location. I've gotten there at 1 and it was fine, but it's just more ideal to get there earlier.

  • Pros: great music and atmosphere
  • Cons: Small

Awful

by tulum_girl

I recently organized a birthday party there and it was a real let down. I wasnt able to get a private space but they assured me the main space would be plenty room. HUGE mistake. The place was packed packed packed...crammed with 21 year old kids drunk out of their minds. The whole night waiters and busboys ran around us carrying huge crates of beer and other stuff. we couldnt stand or dance in peace for even one second. The music was very average and the DJ was really rude and disconnected from the crowd...I think she was high or something. The manager completely ignored us all night long..so much for the free drinks for the birthday person they promote on their website. I dont know how they can allow so many people into such a tiny place...arent there rules for that stuff? We ran out of there in an hour hoping to find some place we could actually have some fun. A huge let down. Even if you do snag a private room be prepared to be squashed! Too many far far better places in our city to have to deal with this. Should be renamed Plan Z.

  • Pros: Nice location...tons of bars around
  • Cons: Watered down drinks, super crowded

SO not recommended.

by agrodolce

My friend was really excited about having a great birthday party and found Plan B on Shecky's. It seemed pretty awesome - she was promised a $20 open bar from 11pm to 1am, as well as a big, private area for her 25+ guests. I have to also add that she called to confirm this more than twice.

So, a bunch of us arrive at 5 minutes to 11pm to find that our tables had people at them, which we didn't really find to be a big deal. When we were given the area to ourselves, the waitress came by and collected everyones' 20 bucks, only to come back ten minutes later saying that it's actually $30 a person. Then she proceeds to tell us that we can only get drinks at the bar and she's not allowed to serve us. (NOTE: It was so incredibly crowded, we couldn't even SEE the bar, let alone get to it.)

Here comes the best part: at right past midnight, a bartender tells us that our open bar ends at 12, not 1. He even got nasty with me when I tried to explain to him the original agreement my friend was promised. He did let us take our drinks though, without an extra charge, after he made them. When we saw our waitress again, we told her what happened and she responded by saying that we can get drinks until 12:30.

It was as if everyone in the bar made up rules as they went along. Needless to say, my friends and I will never step foot in Plan B again.

Just as an added bonus - one of the three tiny bathrooms this place had kept locking people in it and by the end of the night, someone kicked a giant hole, half the size of the door, to escape. Haha.

Great place for a fun night out!

by gg9876

Have been here several times with friends both as a pre-party and post-party spot - always a good time. the music is hot and the drinks are strong and cheap. cute bartenders, too! just hope more people don't find out about it!

  • Pros: great music/DJ, good scene, no cover
  • Cons: can get pretty crowded on weekends

The Scene
This smallish former Drinkland space underwent a non-extreme makeover. Large fake plants, zebra-striped banquettes and a lone disco ball twirling in the corner make for a dressing that only slightly spruces up the main dance floor area. Those wanting to relax with a drink head to the white-walled, white padded-leather side room.

The Draw
Singles on the prowl may appreciate the tight surroundings that quickly force patrons to get up close and personal in this meat market-like atmosphere. Expect a young, mixed, 20-something crowd grooving to Top 40 tunes on weekends, with sparser crowds weeknights. The back hallway with bathrooms next to the DJ booth offer a more tranquil hangout spot, where conversation inevitably draws in the next stranger in line.
