we are not in ISO anymore!!!!

Food ok but not as good as it used to be, they kept the prices that's for sure!!! you still have to wait too long but now is for mediocre sushi so might as well go to some other of the 100000000000 Sushi places in the area. I miss ISO so much:(
- Pros: location
- Cons: not as good as ISO used to be.
Its amazing

Was really surprised with the negative reviews, this my joint favourite sushi spot in the city, excellent black cod, super fresh sashimi and excellent specials, best I've had their was a blue fin tuna rib special one of the most unusual and fantastic dish I've tried, service is decent but the quality of food and reccomendations negate that and the occasional wait....
It just goes to show how unreliable Zagat ratings are
by pianotu
I totally agree with the previous reviewer that Kanoyama should be around 20 in Zagat, not 27. We had the sushi for 2 for 44$, which were among the most ordinary pieces I've eaten in the city (uninteresting selection and so-so quality of fish, and the rice was too tightly shaped for my taste).
The 10-dollar per piece special Uni was good, though not excellent (i.e. not worth the price), while the best item in my meal was the Zucchini Tempora with shrimp and uni, 2 large pieces, 17$. It came with 3 kinds of seasoned salt (citrus, green tea, curry).
Good neighborhood Japanese I guess, and the service and vibe was nice and unhurried during early Saturday evening. But will I go again? Not likely.
- Pros: Daily specials, good ambience.
- Cons: Disappointing sushi.
It is bizarre that this got a 27 in zagat's. it's fine, but comparable with haru, say 20-21

the title says it all. it's not terrible, but astonishing that zagat's thinks this is one of the finest restaurants in nyc. it's perfectly adequate and reasonably priced. don't go here expecting anything else.
I' ll come back

I always eat sushi combination here because it's reasonable,
but I will definitely eat from Today's special next time again.
- Pros: Amazing fish, staff
- Cons: none

Terrible for their services except foods. I never had a such uncomfortable accommodation ever before.
You geuss why it is so much difficult to find Japanese guest in this restaurant even if it is Japanese.
I think at least normal Japanese dare not come again!!
special sushi experience

I was so pleasantly surprised by this spot. the omakase was a great deal and very original--not your typical california roll and salmon sashimi at all! all the fish was extremely fresh, perfectly cut, and presentation was great. We left very full but the final bill was very reasonable. THe sake menu was impressive and they had hitachino (love). service wasnt so great (we waited for food for a long time), but they were very busy. decor is very peaceful and relaxing. while the tables remind of any typical cramped sushi spot, it isn't super noisy (you can hear yourself think for once) nor does it stink like a fish market leaving you with a large future dry cleaning bill.
One of the best in the city

I love sushi, and have eaten at some of the best sushi places both in NY and in Japan. In fact, after having eaten sushi at the Tsukiji market, there are very few places in NY that I find acceptable. This is one of them. The fish is of very good quality, and very well presented. In addition, the prices are excellent. I would definitely go for the 8 piece Omakase, which is roughly the price of its three or four most expensive pieces. The one downside is that you can't make a reservation on the weekend, and are thus almost guaranteed not to be able to get a spot at the very small sushi bar.
- Pros: Food, Prices
- Cons: No Reservations
TERRIBLE FOOD & SERVICE!!
by gourmetexpert
LONG wait for terrible food....so you judge for yourself. is it worth it? If your smart, you know NOT TO GO THERE!
- Pros: it's in the city
- Cons: TERRIBLE EVERYTHING!
Service has degraded
by joshfriedlander
I used to be a big fan back when this place was called Koi. Nothing should have changed with the alteration of a name, but the passage of time has eroded their common sense. I went in earlier this week and the place was more than half empty. Snow outside. No crowds waiting to get in. I get offered a seat at the bar in front of the waiter station. All the other seats are "reserved." No thank you! Then I get offered a seat at the table directly in front of the door (the door that opens on to the 20 degree freeze). Uh...nope. There were PLENTY of tables, but I just walked out. "I'll come back another time," I said, and they didn't try to stop me! Forget this place. I went across the street and had a reasonable sushi meal. Perhaps not quite as good, but close. Granted, the last time they actually gave me a decent seat, the fish was very fresh, but it's not Sushi of Gari. It's not really much better than Haru. Maybe comparable.
- Pros: decent fresh fish
- Cons: service has gone downhill
