Bad waitresses

by betty9475 at Citysearch

My comments this place has a lovely decor but the waitress do not match the name. If your going to pay for a drink a smile and respect would be recommend. What happened my encounter with a skinny brunette was not a good one. She acted like she was doing my friends and I favor when ordering. She placed the drinks at a far corner and didnt bother serving. I recommend that all your waitress slick some vaseline maybe customers can get a smile even a fake one. All the waitress look like all the air has been sucked out of them so lifeless no personality and overly malnutritioned. Please change them as I read your reviews many people feel the same. Rude, unattractive I use to go many years ago alot more prettier staff friendlier. What happened. Kristy stop talking about your cats were not interested and youve slept with customers you know for a little sight of the Titanium. The other brunette you need food and sleep.

  • Pros: Nice decor
  • Cons: Ugly skinny flat dry personality staff

Rooftop...

by RileyM at Citysearch

It's way too crowded, I can never move when I go. Bottle service is slow and the staff is rude, no matter how much you spend. They don't treat people in VIP the right way. The main bar is over crowded and the balcony is too narrow. The crowd is definitely older.

Citysearch Editorial Review

by Alexis Korman at Citysearch

Located in the heart of the Meatpacking district, this modern hotel offers luxe accommodations along with a rocking rooftop lounge. Best known for its glass-enclosed, bumping rooftop bar (Plunge), the Gansevoort also offers 14 floors of luxurious guest rooms--along with 20 corner suites--to a young clientele looking for a trendy NYC experience. With breathtaking views of the river and city skyline, the hotel’s 187 rooms also feature extras well-suited for business travelers, including free Wi-Fi, morning newspaper delivery and complimentary bathrobes and slippers--instantly upgrading your morning routine. Amusements include a 45-ft heated outdoor pool (replete with underwater music and lights), free bicycle rental and the full-service Exhale spa.

Cool place

by Straks at Citysearch

Really pricey but worth it if you're looking to wine dine and stay at a 4 star hotel. There is a great bar on the rooftop and great service and amenities. I highly recommend this for a special anniversery or if you are among the few that can travel to NYC and afford to stay at a 4 star hotel.

Avoid the bouncers!

by aqhawasi at Citysearch

The rooftop bar is a pretty cool place to hang out and get a bar, especially during a weeknight. As with every swanky lounge, you can expect to pay a premium for drinks; however, the views can be worth it. The crowd is mixed with all sorts in attendance, but it is part of what can make it fun. Unfortunately, in some nights, you have to deal with two bouncers who shoot way more steroids than they should and may ask you for "a bill" so they can open the pearly gates for you; their common excuses for not letting you will in the form of your dresswear (jeans, sneakers). I would have rated this place higher if it wasnt because those bouncers are really that annoying.

  • Pros: Views, mixed crowd
  • Cons: The bouncers asking for money

Do I smell Armani Acqua Di Gio?

by CR2 at Citysearch

If Bruno from the Ali G show was a real person this is where he'd stay in NYC. Not trying to be overtly critical, just saying...

  • Pros: Ultra modern
  • Cons: Ultra eau de toilette

Memorable

by PennyKF at Citysearch

My husband and I loved our stay at the Gansevoort. The service was very friendly and accommodating, our room was gorgeous, and we spent the whole time hanging out by the pool and relaxing! The pool was pretty small, but it wasn't crowded. We went up for a drink at the rooftop bar, howerver, which was incredibly tacky. I felt like I was in Miami circa 1990. But the hotel itself, specifically our accommodations, were lovely.

  • Pros: rooms, luxury, service
  • Cons: small pool, tacky bar

RUN FOR YOUR LIFE

by jwalker1972 at Citysearch

over priced, horrible rude service!1 bouncers at door where giving me problem at door to enter the hotel i stayed in.

do not go or stay here. same applies for night club, extremely over priced drinks and the level of service is horrific, staff makes you feel as if they are doing you a favor, meanwhile they have no concept of "hotel service" bar and rooftop lounge going down hill, i used to go a couple of years ago, door men let all the wrong people in, stay away from this place, bouncers cocked attitude not worth sitting on line for more then 10 seconds,

hotel staff at front desk just as rude as the doormen, stay away, try a traditional hotel with friendly service,

bunch of ho-bo's work at this place,

  • Cons: everything

Worst Place ever

by larsheat at Citysearch

I agree with the last posting detailing the appalling trendinessof this hotel. The Hotel is totally overrated and

the service is teribble, people are unfriendly and think they are something better than you. A friend from gave me $200 tickets for the New Year Eve Pary, this s.... totally and it was the worst party ever for us. The bar was so crowded, than they had a bar in a conference room, just limited drinks, just one kind of beer and fried food, with this $200 tickets you were not allowed to go on the roof top, just vip, upgrade not possible. The advertisment for the party says roof top and nothing that you cant go there with $200 Tickets, i never stay and never go to this place, best of it thats in the middle of meatpacking.

  • Pros: meatpacking
  • Cons: service, price

Over Rated, Unfriendly, & Violent ! ! !

by nyc_niteowl at Citysearch

My review will be biased, as I had a terrible experience there this past saturday. The bottles are overpriced, 600 for a bottle of grey goose. Are you kidding me? ? The atmosphere is trendy but too many jersey people. And the place gets too crowded to justify the prices, especially with no dance floor. Upon walking a friend downstairs to the lobby, I was not allowed back up unless I waited on line AGAIN, even though I was STILL in the lobby. When I questioned this policy, and asked for a stamp, I was pushed and shoved by one of the idiot bouncers for no reason. Excessive force and unwarranted behavior...I was not allowed back in, even though our group had bought 3 bottles, of the cheaper Belvedeere ($300). The staff is very anti white and probably has some ex cons working the door. I felt slighted and robbed of the money my group spent that night. I will make formal complaints with management today via phone/letter. And if that bouncer with the dread locks reads this, I know what you like and I'm gonna come after you ! You ruined my night, you savage filthbag. You're lucky you're employed. You don't have the intelligence to talk to people. Aside from my experience, the views are not that great (aparment buildings across brooklyn) as well.

But now that I just read one of the owners of this establishment leased jets to the CIA to transport prisoners to guantanamo bay, I will be sure as hell to NEVER go back to this place again.
