I had been going to Max Wax for Brazilian bikini waxes for years, thinking that this was as good as it could be. However, I just had my first bikini wax at Bliss Spa, and I can't believe I was suffering unnecessarily for so long. There is no comparison - for only a few dollars more, I got a much neater wax at Bliss that didn't hurt half as much. The best thing I can say about Max Wax is that they work quickly. The waxes are extremely painful and I was always left with very irritated, red skin and had a lot of problems with ingrown hairs, but I thought that was just the way Brazilian bikini waxes had to be. WRONG!

Waxing Torture Chamber

If I could give this place no stars I would. I wish I could post a sign on every street in the tri-state area it would read "Maxwax: Beware Your Hair Won't Survive and Neither Will You!" It is unbelievable that a place like this could get an outstanding review by Allure Magazine, that is why I went there for a Brazilian. Not only were the rooms not set up to ease the waxing process, but the rude and ruthless technician showed no mercy; no matter how much I writhed in pain, plus she didn't finish the job. I am left with red inflamed bumps and need to have someone fix the botched job. I emplore everyone out there to boycott this place. I am traumatized and sore. HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE!!!

max wax

i wish i had read these reviews before i went to max wax. the owner is surly and it passes down to the staff. everything in the bikini wax is an add-on so you end up feeling like you have been totally taken for a ride, and leave paying much more then you wanted or expected to. AVOID for every possible reason

Good but room for improvement

I like how they only do waxing and it is an easy, unfussy place. I think the prices and choices are good and the staff seem pretty nice. What I don't like is the lack of comfort. Getting a wax is not a pleasure so some little thought to the lighting, temperature and sound could make the experience a lot easier. What design genius thought to put the most painful interrogation room spotlights on the ceiling which is where your eyes are the whole time? I went on a hot day and the AC was on to arctic standards. OK, waxing is a hot, sticky business but being frozen so your goosebumps are up is just about the most uncomfortable state your skin could be in for a wax. Lastly, because of the open plan there is little privacy. Therefore there is little talk from your waxer and you. If you like silence while being waxed, fine. I would have preferred some music or any kind of audible distraction from the job at hand. Give me a chatty esthetician and that Oriental spa music you usually get any day. Having said all that I will go back and give it another go. On a cooler day and with my iPod.

The people are nice and both times I have gone, I have had to go to another salon to get the job fixed. This place charges a lot of money to get the job half done!

I really enjoy this place

I'm normally not a big review person, but this business is definitely worth mentioning. I've visited Max Wax a few times and each time I've left pleased with the results. I've known the owner, Eileen, for going on two years now and I've got to say that she is an absolute sweet heart. What I especially think is worth mentioning however is that each time I've gone I've been greeted by the same technicians. Yes they are always courteous and professional as I would only expect they should be but it is always the same people and I think that says a lot about the kind of operation that is being run there. Now I wish I could only say the same about my hair salon!

maxwax cancellation policy

Be aware of the ridiculous cancellation policy which charges you for 1/2 of the service you were sceduled to receive if you give less than 12 hours notice. No wonder they insist on keeping a credit card on record even if you pay cash. The technicians are wonderful. Obviously the comments regarding the owner are correct and not necessarily the result of a stalker. If you make an appointment make sure you aren't going to have an emergency and have to cancel. Most doctors don't even do that. There is no warning when you make the appointment that there is a 12 hour cancellation policy.

BEST AND EASIEST BIKINI WAX EVER!

I went to Maxwax for a bikini wax and the entire experience was great! I am usually a big baby about getting my bikini waxed. When I called to make an appointment, the receptionist was very helpful and recommended Heena. I went in and was done in about 10 - 15 minutes and it was the most painless bikini wax I have ever had. Heena was quick and thorough! The owner was there as well and was super friendly and nice to talk to. I won't get my bikini waxed anywhere else but Maxwax!

I am a waxing maven !!! This place is amazing !!

I have been waxing my legs for over 20 years and I am only 36 !! I am a germophobic and extremely particular when it comes to the hygiene of waxing places. I have been going to Bliss for 10 years ( only because they are so clean) to the same person. I never thought any other place was as clean until I went to Max Wax ! I was walking on the upper west side and on a fluke.. looked up and saw Max Wax.. what a cool name.. I went in like an investigator checking the place for cleaniness and the manager showed me around and was very nice while answering all my questions... should I want to go there between my Bliss appointments and get a quick wax.. I cannot believe how clean this place is.. It is truly amazing..I went the next week for a 1/2 leg wax and I love it there.. I will definitely become a regular customer not just once in a while.... they know what they are doing, are extremely nice, and never double dip..

For those not sure of the "double dip" .. let me explain.. most places claim they have a "special wax" a softer or gentler wax, they all tell stories about how their wax is different.. but they do "double dip" they might use the "special wax" but they use the same stick and keep putting it in the same wax as everyone else stick !! At Max Wax, a NEW stick is used EVERY time they apply it on your bikini area.. they take waxing very seriously and are extremely hygienic .. they even wear gloves..If you aren't sure where to go.. Go Here !! Their prices are amazing and the whole place is just fabulous..
