Thumbs UP for Bonobo's

by daisyduke01 at Citysearch

I am a raw vegan and I was recently in NYC for the weekend. I had heard about Bonobo's and decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I did! I ended up eating every meal at Bonobo's while I was there. I made my own salad, adding all of the fresh organic veggies that I wanted. The tahini salad dressing was to die for! The nut pates were amazing. I also got a salad sampler plate. This contained several different types of salads; 1) broccoli with garlic and pine nuts (absolutely delicious, 2) kale with citrus dressing (very good), 3) curried cauliflower (amazing), 4) asian salad (to die for), and 5) about three or four different types of nut meat salads (all were amazing). The staff was friendly and helpful. They allow you to sample all of the food before purchasing which was really helpful in decision making. If you're going to be in the NYC area - don't miss this little gem!

  • Pros: Excellent, healthy cuisine, very clean, prices affordable, great samples
  • Cons: Out of durian ice cream

Fabulous and Flavorful!

by rachelwelsh at Citysearch

I finally found a vegetarian restaurant - that is delicious and affordable - Bonobo's is great for everyday dining - simple down to earth decor - I found the staff to be very efficient. Because it was my first time - I was worried I was going too slow for them - but they are very forthcoming with samples - my selection was perfect. The nutmeat salad plate - and as the menu says - I did scrape the plate. I opted for the sweet lemon basil dressing. The meal was flavorful - remained on my palate for hours - I felt 'full' for $8!

I have been looking for a place that offers 'healthy' food that tastes great - that I can afford on a daily basis. There is such a selection you won't tire of the menu.

They were so generous with samples of frozen ice cream I couldn't tell you which was the best - they were all fabulous and flavorful.

Open from 11am - 8pm you can eat there twice a day at least!

  • Pros: You can sample everything - so you can't go wrong! Great food!
  • Cons: Can be overwhelming - take your time - and taste the samples!

Delicious Salads

by pickyb at Citysearch

If you're looking for a healthy meal, stop by this little joint. It took me a while to gather the courage to go in there, because their menu is so messy and disorganized. But finally one of the staff took me under his wing and explained my options to me and let me try their different foods. Ask to try the pates! They are delicious. It's a little pricey, but can be worth it. Their salads are filling especially when you choose to add a pate to it. Much recommended!

  • Pros: fresh veggies, pate'!
  • Cons: disorganized

Great value for this kind of food

by pessoa at Citysearch

I liked Bonobo's and particularly want to balance out the previous reviewers. Sure the restaurant serves whacko raw food. If you have a problem with that, go somewhere else. I'm not a raw foodist, but I really enjoyed my meal. I've had similar food before so nothing was a revelation. But what I did find surprising about Bonobo is the value. This kind of food is normally pretty expensive, but last night we spent only marginally more than we would have at the Quizno's a few doors down. Don't expect this to be fast food as the counter-staff are really disorganized, but it's good, fresh, and interesting food at little more than fast food prices.

  • Pros: good value, interesting food
  • Cons: disorganized staff

Monkey Food is Bad

by stormysea at Citysearch

Somebody forgot to tell Bonobo that organic vegetarian food does not have to be tasteless and bland. Over priced for counter service and an effortless cuisine.

What's the big deal here???

by luga112 at Citysearch

I can't tell what the big deal here is.I was told that everything on this place was organic and raw, well, the "raw" part turned out to be truth. The food is "ok" at best, really, nice salad, good juice and all, but at the prices they charge, one would expect at least a smile at the counter, but the idea there was more like "we know everything, you know nothing, so don' ask stupid questions!!" Judging by the "large" crowd there,I assume this place won't be there for long...

  • Pros: back dinning room, sunroof, juices
  • Cons: bad service, overpriced, not 100% organic
