I paid $8 for small vodka drink then realized they were using POPoff vodka. That suff is horrible, costs like $2 for a giant bottle. They said I had to pay extra for absolute which was considered "high end" vodka and were really rude about it. I was nauseous after that.
Cons: they use cheap vodka and allow people to smoke in the enclosed roof top

Of course, if you love pretentious service, being ignored, paying a lot for drinks, and generally being treated like garbage unless you carry a lot of clout, this is is the place for you. I read about the great DJs that this place supposedly has. But in the two hours we were there, we listened to Def Leppard and Billy Idol. The ENTIRE time. (OK, maybe there was a little Cinderella as well.) That was too much in the 80's and twenty years hasn't made that much hair metal any better. But in all fairness, the staff wouldn't know that because they probably weren't even in utero back then. Every single seat in this place was RESERVED at 9:30 on a Saturday night. And yet, it was COMPLETELY EMPTY. We sat down at a table because all of the bar stools were removed - so you had to stand - and were promptly told by an unbelievably rude busboy that we had to leave. Note to the staff: If you are going to actually sit around in the only unreserved section (the stools that were removed from the bar) because you have nothing else to do, you should be a little more discrete about approaching your only clients who have no where else to sit but in "reserved" seating. It looks bad. "Bad" as in rude, lazy and you just lost a good deal of business from this bar-goer.

It was a nightmare and made a big mistake I picked this place over other places....bouncers were not friendly and were throwing their weight around as if they are owners....very rude behavior! Not recommended too expensive, poor service, too crowed and crowd...

My girlfriend booked my 25th birthday party at The Delancy about a week ago. I was a little hesitant to have a party here since I've been to this place a few times in the past and the crowds were unbearable. We were able to reserve some space on the roof for about 30 of my close friends. It was very convenient for us, since we live in the LES and expecting a lot of out-of-town guests. We arrived about 10:30, with a group of about 15 to start. Once we told the doorman we were here for a party, we were quickly let in and made our way to the back staircase and up to the roof. We were quickly greeted by our adorable waitress and she began taking drink orders. Everything about the night was great. There was just enough space for my guests to chat and catch-up. If anyone wanted to dance, they just went downstairs and came back to the roof without any issues. Drinks were never empty. I recommend this place for anyone looking to have a good time with friends in an atmosphere where everyone can socialize and dance if desired.
Pros: Friendly staff, great atmosphere, good music
Cons: Not cheap, crowded, long lines to get in

I had my 21st Birthday party at The Delancey last night and had a wonderful time. I had the front VIP room reserved, which was a great space for all of my friends to hang out. I also had a botte service and the bar-backs were extremely attentive making sure that we had enough cups, mixers, etc. The DJ was great all night. And yes it does get busy later at night but the line kept moving and none of my friends who came late complained about it. Overall I had a fantastic night and so did all of my friends. I would recomment this bar to anyone who wants to have a party or just go on a weekend night to the LES to get their groove on! :-)
Pros: Great DJ, Awesome live Music venue, cool vibe
Cons: slightly random location, no beer on tap

We planned an early evening party and had a great time. The staff was very helpful over the past month while we were planning the event. The manager always called me back and we made good decisions about how to run the open bar, guest list, etc. The rooftop is gorgeous-- everyone was very excited to arrive and see the garden-- an oasis in the midst of the Lower East Side. The bartenders and manager were helpful, kept me updated on the tab, etc. and they helped clear up after the party was over. We stayed on and had a good night-- it was Tuesday, they bar-b-que-- we had good cheeseburgers.

I WOULD NEVER GO BACK TO THIS BAR. After planning my birthday at the delancey, I arrived to find a line three hours long, absolutely no partiality for my guests, zero service and a bar so packed it was impossible to breathe let alone get a drink. My experience epitomized a birthday party gone wrong. I would like to thank the delancey for making the begining of my birthday night stressful and horrifying. Tip (if you are ever forced to go to the delancey) : there is a total dive bar (Park Side Lounge) a few blocks away - it puts the delancey to shame since you can actually breathe, move, get a drink and there is live music.
Cons: Crowded, impossible to get a drink, have a conversation or enjoy yourself

Worst Birthday Party Ever! My boyfriend decided to have his Bday at the Delancy. After speaking with several people on the phone who seemed very pleasant thought it would be a great place. Upon arriving, the girl at the front had no idea where our reserved room was. We had to search the entire place to find someone who knew where our area was. It was in an unsuspecting spot and many of our guests were also unable to find it. The reservation was supposed to be for approximately 60 people however the room was very small appearing to accommodate more like 30. They told us they "always overbook parties". Early on in the night before our room was filled our friends were stuck outside in a never-ending line. We approached the unfriendly bouncer who just told us with attitude they had to wait. They were uncooperative and completely unaccommodating. Many of our friends actually left because they didn't want to wait in line. One friend went out for a smoke and had to wait in line to come back in. He left as well. The drinks were ridiculously priced from $9-$14 with tons of ice in itty-bitty dixie cups. In the middle of the party, the bartender actually closed up shop because he had "tendonitis!!!!". No apology nor replacement. Overall, nobody gave a #%$ about our satisfaction and the party was a complete disaster. My advise~Don't do it!

My friends and I were looking for a new out of the way place (right on that one) which would have an outdoor area, The Delancey seemed like a great place to enjoy happy hour in the summer. Man were we wrong, first it is so out of the way, just way to many finer places passed up to get to this hole, as sunny as it was outside, the indoors was a dark tomb, the very "moody" bartender informed us, "that the outside bar was not open but you could purchase drinks here and walk upstairs" - okay. great a $7.00 bottle of beer (no tap) and $9.00 drink, all before 6:00PM - once upstairs we were treated to a really bad foliage nightmare, one horrible view, and a total of about 6 other patrons... wow, talk about no atmosphere, granted it was nice to be outdoors, but for the trouble to get there, pay these ridiculous drink prices and be with the most miserable working crowd we have ever witness (serious attitude adjustments needed) this place so NOT worth it - we left after a few drinks and found a more enjoyable place crowd and prices -

I went here for my 31st birthday party (June 4th) and gotta say, this place is great. We were upstairs with about 20+ people and it was kind of a rainy, chilly night but the covered roof was fantastic. Since I was the birthday boy, I don't recall anything really too late but from what I do remember, the place wasn't packed, all my friends were able to meet and drink, all for a reasonable price. Not sure how the rest of the place is (my brother's band has played the basement a few times) and I do recall the 1st floor being croweded but once we went upstairs everything was great!
Pros: prices, seating area, upstairs
Cons: the 1st floor - getting through the crowd to get upstairs
