great bar and a joy to little west 12th street, proper bar and now with outdoor space even better. so makes up for the failings in the street..
- Pros: large bar
fun bar without attitude in meatpacking district
by manihiki
Best bar for a good time in w village/meatpacking, without the pretentious attitude at most other bars/clubs in the area. If you like having a good time, check out this bar. If not, try some other place
- Pros: Good crowd, good music, not pretentious
Good time and great time

Went last Thurs and had a blast!!! The bartenders, door staff, waitresses were all awesome, my friends and I will definetly be back.
Great space and rooftop but it gets crowded!

I went to Brass Monkey on a girl's night out and love the space. Huge ceilings and beautiful wooden interior make this space beautiful and comfortable while promoting mingling. The rooftop bar is great but be prepared for a crowd.
- Pros: Great space, Good for after work drinks
- Cons: Crowded
Shady Bartenders...

All was great fun at this bar until we tried to close our tabs. After taking forever to acknowledge we were standing in front of them (mind you I'm a 6' blonde, kind of hard to miss), one of the bartenders on the second floor tried to way over charge me ($80 on a $25 tab). When I told him he was mistaken, that I'd said I was the only one ordering on my tab he insisted I didn't know what I had ordered, and that I'd never said that. He would only take 4 of the drinks off, and tried to make me feel guilty by saying I should be happy, I had gotten a free round out of it. Yeah, a free round that I never even drank.
Needless to say, anyone would be a bent out of shape by this. I don't want to write a review whining about how I got screwed and telling you never to go to this bar because we actually had a great time up until this point. So that said, all I will pass along is to be careful if you tell the bartender to "keep it open" when you hand him your card; he will probably try to add on a few assuming that you've most likely had a few too many and won't notice.
- Pros: Roof deck, good music
- Cons: Ignorant and inattentive bartenders
Great Roof Top!

I went to Brass Monkey on Saturday night. We wanted to go somewhere that wasnt too Meatpacking and a bit more la*d back. The guy at the front door was really nice and let my buddy in who was wearing shorts...it was about a million degrees so i think he understood. The crowd was really good. Chill spot and cute guys. We went up to the roof top which was really packed but we carved out a little space for ourselves. One really awesome waitress even went and got drinks for us so we wouldn't have to go back downstairs. All in all great night and great bar. We will def be back.
- Pros: Cute guys. Roof Top. Chill bar in the midst of crazy
Meat Packing Perfection
by mmjim10
This is what the Meat Packing District has always needed -a place for those that actually enjoy others company. No - it thankfully is not the place you go to see and be seen ( as I suppose was main problem the few who have called the clients here ugly had - maybe those that use those type of qualifiers should be forced to post a photo of themselves so we might all judge them as well.) Its a joint in the best use of that term. It feels like a REAL neighborhood place as soon as you walk through the door. Heads don't turn on a swivel to see "who" you might be. They are too busy enjoying each others company to bother. The food here is well above most pub food and the fish and chips are exceptional with a great bear selection. On spot bartenders that are friendly and attentive if you show up without attitude - its not that kind of place. For those of you that require that there are plenty of places like that in this neighborhood - PLEASE stay there and leave this rare space to the simple folk from the neighborhood and the like. Another up side to the bar are the ON SITE owners. Uncommon in this district where the owners of most of the places in the MPD rarely show their faces. Finally - coming down here at night wobbling in your 6"+ heels over the cobblestones and wearing the latest overpriced designer duds expecting a Meat Packing District experience- you will likely not find the Brass Monkey to your liking. But that's a shame - since it (along with Hectors and Hogs & Heifers) are what keeps the true flavor of this neighborhood intact.
- Pros: A real neighborhood bar
- Cons: Its not in a REAL neighborhood

Came to Brass Monkey w/a group of 30 ppl and we lost a few trying to find it. We were recovering from Home/Guestlist trying to charge us bottle service for every 4 ppl. The nite went really well at Brass Monkey... a lil wait for drinks b/c of crowd. The bar filled up so much that there was noooo room to dance and it was hard to find people b/c it is a big bar. Overall it was good and everyone had a great time.
Post Work Bar

Lauren from work suggested a handful of us go the Brass Monkey after work. She picked a good spot as the beer selection was execellent, appetizers tasty and the crowd was fun. The place has quiet spots for talking on the front porch and the front of the bar and gets much more crowded and louder in the back of the bar. I'd recommend this place for After Work or if you are interested in meeting new people.
