Ruben never disappoints!

by tuchica

Ruben has been cutting my hair for over 5 years. I trust no one else with my thick, curly, unruly hair. After years of cutting my hair, Ruben still surprises me each time with a new and fun look. On this visit I went super short (Ruben has been trying to convince me to do so for years) which is scary for a curly haired girl to do. No regrets here! The cut is so amazing and chic. My friends, family and co-workers love it. I've received nothing but compliments. If you have curly hair (or any kind of hair for that matter) and have been looking for a place to get the perfect cut, look no further. Make an appt with Ruben at Sally Hershberger. The service there is amazing. Everyone is friendly and fun. Hope Ruben remembers the little people when word of his magic gets out...

The best haircut

by valeriea123

Everytime Ruben cuts my hair I always think it is the best hair cut of my life, until the next time I come in for a hair cut and it is even better. People have stopped me on the street to compliment me after I have my hair styled by him.

  • Pros: comfortable environment

Great spot...some stylists better than others

by NYCgal01

I have been to the salon a handful of times, and have seen 3 of the stylists there. I have reffered friends only to two of them, Allison and Tommy. They are both amazing. Friendly, funny, attentive, creative. Best haircuts in the city, hands down!! However, I saw a third stylist, and I must say, don't do it!!!! His name was Ruben i think. He was 40 minutes late, didn';t apologize, and put enough product in my hair to last a month!! And the haircut, well, I wasnt happy. Left a bad taste in my mouth. Otherwise, front desk was helpful, assistants were nice, and stylists great. Love this place!

  • Pros: Youthful, friendly, laidback

Ruben Colon is a genius

by ARZ123

If Ruben can squeeze you in between his NY socialite and celeb clientele he will give you the best possible hair cut. He has a supernatural sense of how to make people look their best and the skills to do it. You won't find anyone better, anywhere. He gives every client a hair cut as unique as they are . No two look the same, I would know, I've refered about ten of my friends to him. Having good hair days is so important. Ruben changed the way I see myself for the better.

Mike & Dustin Truly Incredible

by Ayden1985

I have never really had a good hair cut, it’s always been just wrong. Weird layers and I all ways felt I was having a bad hair day, everyday. I had my hair cut by Mike for the first time a few months ago I was so amazed, the way that my hair framed my face, it was like nothing I had ever had before. I realized what a good hair cut was for the first time. After Mike was done cutting my hair his Assistant Dustin blew it out. He told me to use a round brush and showed me what a little product could do for my hair. It had so much body and movement it was Gorgeous. He also gave me the most wonderful scalp massage ever. The true test really was if I could go home and do it myself. Using a round brush and the products I had purchased I could not believe it. It looked almost as good as when I left the salon. The cut was so easy to work with and the product made such a different. Thanks Mike & Dustin for making me look and feel Beautiful!!

Great haircut with Allison!

by rjb

As background, I have been to several nice salons in NYC and have never had a good haircut in NYC. In fact, I have always had terrible haircuts by supposedly talented stylists. I usually wait until I go home to get a cut, but I desperately needed a trim. A colorist at Sally recommended that I see Allison. I have medium length, layered, wavy, and fine hair. Allison gave me a great haircut! She was very thorough and precise. She listened and cut my hair exactly how I asked her to. She is very talented and knows how to give someone a great cut! I highly recommend her.

  • Pros: Great haircut, takes her time, listens
  • Cons: Expensive, annoying scene

brilliant recovery from a hatchet job--thank you rodrigo!

by saritagogo

in preparation for my boyfriend's visit this coming sunday, on Friday I went to a minimalist japanese salon around the corner from my place to get my hair cut. I wanted something special, but didn't want to go to severe. What I got was a total disaster. I went home and cried. It was so awful. Words can't describe how monstrous I looked. Panicked, I called up Sally Hershberger Salon this morning and the only stylist available was a guy named Rodrigo. I figured what the hell, it can't get any worse.

i went in at 2pm, and he was running a little late, but when I finally got in his chair he looked at me, listened to me, and then told me what he was going to do. It was like he had already figured it out while I was waiting for him. He didn't speak to me at all while he was working, which kind of freaked me out a little, but when he was done, I was a woman again. It was beautiful! I really can't figure out how he salvaged the disaster that was my haircut, but he did, and I am soooooooo thankful. My boyfriend will probably appreciate the story, but I'm not going to tell him until he compliments me. Oh, and special bonus! I thought I was going to have to drop a ton of money for this, but his price was actually really reasonable. I will definitely be going back.

  • Pros: rodrigo!
  • Cons: I wish I had gone to him on Sunday instead!

Amazing haircut, torture shampoo bowl

by RachelRedd

Allison gave me a terrific haircut. Really, really good. One of the best haircuts I have had in a long, long time. I do not live in New York full-time, but will definitely return to Sally's Downtown. Read on, because there is a downside.

As good as the haircut was, the shampoo bowl was torture. I mean really. Pay attention to those details Sally. My neck was hurting a lot and you know, I should have said to Justin, I want another shampoo bowl. Little did I know this was the worst one because Justin admitted to as much. Come on. I know they cost a lot, but for what your salon charges for a haircut, you could have a welder in Brooklyn design and make you one. Well, not really, but I know and you know this is not the first complaint. So fix it.

And Justin, I get the vibe that you are not into your clients all that much. And honey, if you are not into them, they certainly are not going to be all that into you. GOOD LUCK.

A little old lady from not, quite Pasadena, but Santa Barbara,

Elena (actually I'm not little, but tall, and I am old :)
