This place used to have amazing, healthy sandwiches. I went to go there the other day and it was gone! So sad. Five stars to say COME BACK!!! Going to try some other locations in the meanwhile.
Used to be Amazing - Now Just Ok

This used to be my absolute favorite place for a great gourmet sandwich. Times have changed. I'm not sure if they changed the management or what but things are different at Starwich. My favorite guy left (manager I think) and the staff's personality isn't what it used to be. They got rid of the cool glass-bottled drinks that were a special treat (diet cream soda, rootbeer, etc) and the BEST sandwiches they had they took off the menu. The best sandwich I've ever had is no longer attainable: Seared Tuna Melt with sprouts & jalepenos and the great low-calorie favorite Fish & Chips is gone. I used to have it several times a week but no longer. Deliveries are messed up 50% of the time and what used to be my neighborhood go-to is now a place I avoid. I'm not sure if they're trying to cut costs but patrons know when they are being short-changed.
- Pros: Better than average sandwiches
- Cons: Best things have been removed from menu

This is one of my staples for food!
Twice a month I stock up on my various supplements and teas--which they have a large variety of.
The deli has a great selection of homemade salads and entrees, as well as "meat" and living prepared foods from local eateries
- Pros: cheap,healthy

I went here yesterday for my first time and plan on going back often! The service and food was great and the atmosphere is so relaxing. They have free wifi internet connection and I was able to go, be comfortable, and get so much work done. Spacious setting so you aren't bumping elbows with anyone else (or having to listen to their cell phone conversations!). Plenty of outlets around all their chairs and couches. They also play awesome music (light/classic rock). I highly recommend!!
- Pros: Great atmosphere, Free Wifi, Good prices, Comfortable
- Cons: Nothing!

Salads and sandwiches at this gourmet chain are made with ingredients like duck confit and seared tuna.
The Best Sandwich I Have Ever Had

I walked in the 42nd Street location not really knowing what to expect just in dire need of a sandwich. The clerk suggested that I try the braised short rib sandwich since Starwich was new to me. I sat down with my computer and enjoyed free wifi access while I waited. When it came out, I encountered the best experience of my adult life with a sandwich. I asked the clerk what made it different and she replied that the meat was free range and everything was organic. From that day on, I am a repeat customer and I have even graduated to creating my own sandwiches.
Basically, I call it 5-star quality and it tastes like it.
- Pros: Free Wireless, Phone Charging Stations, Meeting Tables, Couches
- Cons: There is not enough of them

On the first Friday of the Javitz auto show, our staff ordered 9 lunches for delivery. An hour and 10 minutes later we finally received our food, only to find it one salad short and two items not as we ordered. The replacement food took another 30 minutes to arrive (Javitz is only a ten minute walk from Starwich). We originally called the owner to complain but the re-delivery guy told us that it wasn't the owner but a manager who was busy with a "catering" problem??? He also said our order got mixed up with a Time Square delivery, causing problems for one of their regular customers....! So SORRY for ordering, gheeez!
Last year we used this place 5 times while stuck at Javitz, this time we didn't bother to give them a second chance. And they never bothered to ask! What a difference a year makes.
The food - adequate for the most part. The sandwiches were smaller, especially the soft shell crab BLT---with a micro crab at best! And somebody seemed to try to make up for the miniture portion by loading it down with soggy sauce. Who knows, maybe the food would have seemed better if it would have arrived on a timely basis. {Or maybe by the time we got to eat we were starved enough to appreciate ANYTHING!}
The good news, we later searched the neighborhood and found TWO great new places that seem to give a darn about their delivery customers so all is good.
- Pros: Used to be great, maybe just having a bad day? (YOU take your chances)
- Cons: Smaller portions, slow delivery, weird people responding to problems.

My wife and I used to visit NY at least once a month (we're from Boston), and we'd always seek out the cool spots for lunch and dinner. After having a baby, our choices for lunch became limited... until we found Starwich by chance one day. Now we always stop by Starwich to recharge (ourselves as well as out cell phones - they have chargers and outlets). We can custom-make a simple sandwich for out little one, and get great/unique sandwiches for ourselves (kobe beef, braised short-rib, juniper-glazed chicken, etc.) The best part is that the vibe is very NY yet very relaxing- cool design, lounge music, etc.
- Pros: Great food quality, great atmosphere
- Cons: Wish there were more locations!

I like to read reviews, rarely write but someone's got to say it - "The emperor isn't wearing any clothes"! Yes, this used to be a gem (I know, often grabbed coffee/muffin special on my way to work) and 3 or 4 times a month stopped with co-workers for our "working" lunch (yes, I live very close and work is only a few blocks from here). Food quality and selection was great, the most comfortable dining room anywhere, and a proud, courteous and cheerful staff. I couldn't believe our luck when Starwich set up shop in Hell's Kitchen- cool/funky like the neighborhood but sophisticated!
But they're blowing it- the food selection is still generous (if you create your own salad or sandwich) but they've often been out of things and no one seems to know until after I've been waiting for my order. And forget my morning coffee/muffin special- the last time I came in for that the muffins were fresh -FRESH OUT OF THE REFRIGERATOR, ice cold!!! (They used to bake them fresh daily). And why-oh-why did they stop serving that great "to die for" hot chocolate? Now it's some concoction that leaves a blob of goop in your cup.
At lunch my boss ordered Kobe beef on top of her salad. She was having such difficulty chewing it that I was truly embarrassed (I'm the one who turned her on to this place, hope she forgot). And the friendly staff (hey, it was more like hanging with friends/ family -REALLY) - what happened, where did they go? Last time we stopped for lunch the "warmth factor" felt more like ordering and eating at a McDonalds . Granted, we happened to come in when they were swamped with orders from the near-by Javitz (so I hear) but being busy is no excuse for being rude.
If only they hadn't once been something so special I probably wouldn't have bothered with this review.
- Pros: free wifi, spacious
- Cons: poor attention to customer needs
