Sounds great
by hagop
I haven't been to The Dove, but upon reading the negative reviews by the whining yuppies, I can't wait to go. I'll be in NY next week for a vacation from bartending in San Francisco. I always use cash, never credit cards (I'm no fool), and I plan to ask to be served by the bitchy redhead?sounds like my kind of gal! I pride myself on my high negative ratings on YELP.

Good Place Nasty Redhead Host
by Leigh519
Not a bad atmosphere, hasn't been completely taken over by the hip crowd. The tea sandwich sampler was fantastic and generally the staff was helpful and pleasant. Except, avoid the red head female. She is completely rude and for no reason. The rest of her equals were great. We asked for a plug to charge a phone, she gave us the brush off and said "ya we don't do that." Another worker saw this and said.."go ahead there's one over there." over the course of the evening and her rudely interjecting and actually giving dirty looks we found that the phone had been unplugged and tossed to the side. In making eye contact with her, we got that "ya I'm the b%#CH that did that for no reason." So go there, but tell the redhead to f-off.
- Pros: Intimate, Good Snacks
- Cons: Can be crowded, need reservations for seating usually, evil redhead
A bar with heart...
by tomtomnyc
I just found out what The Dove is doing for their new years party and it kinda blew my mind. Get this, on what is probably one of the most lucrative nights of the year for any bar, they are giving all the money they make to charity! Wow. I work for a non-profit org. and let me tell you, we need more businesses like this in New York. The party sounds good too: open bar, absinthe (is it real???) and a burlesque show. If I was gonna be here for new years, I would have already bought my ticket. But I'm headed to Paris, so don't feel too bad for me!
- Pros: Good wines and decor, classy
Love this place!
by tabbcatt
I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite bars in the city. I've gone to the Dove a handful of times and always had such a pleasant experience whether I was on a date or just with friends after work. So last week I decided to throw my sister's 30th birthday party there. Of course, I always stress out when I am the host and I know how picky my sis can be, so needless to say, I was worried and wanted everything to be perfect. And it was! The Dove is so festive and pretty inside so its perfect for special occasions. We reserved a table ahead of time so we had space and the staff was so so kind to us...really lovely people. We ordered light snacks from the food menu and they even had these cute mini cakes. And its official, I'm addicted to the french lavender cocktail!
- Pros: beautiful interior, accomodating staff, great snacks
- Cons: You might get addicted to the lavender martini ;)
Please go elsewhere unless you like to be harrassed by staff
by zeal999
I've heard good reviews about this bar and went with a couple of friends for happy hour drinks. We were asked to move locations 3 times. After the third request, we politely declined. After that we were basically harrassed by the waitstaff and told that the table we were sitting on was reserved at 2 different times by 2 different waitresses. When confronted about the discrepancy, they scurried away and left us alone briefly. We then were told that the party for the table arrived 40 minutes early. Fed up,we left. In all my many bar experiences in New York, this is one of the worst bars I have been to. The drinks were inexpensive but not very good. There were too many hostesses/ waitresses (about 6 for this tiny place) whose job was to shift people around and be slightly obnoxious. The only positive is the beautiful decor.
- Pros: Ambiance, decor
- Cons: staff, sickly sweet drinks that aren't supposed to be sickly sweet
Everything was wonderful except our waitress
by nerlim
Well it was my first time to the Dove Bar and I really must say it was quite lovely. The music was great, it was a nice and cozy retreat from the chilly streets of NYC..... Everything was almost perfect until I met our waitress. Now I worked in the bar industry for 6 years prior to my current job. I know everyone has a bad day but her complete lack of interest in our (15 person) table, general nasty attitude and abrasiveness stuck out like a sore thumb in the otherwise generally pleasant environment. Would I recommend it, absolutely, just don?t expect a warm welcome or a smile for that matter from your server or you may be disappointed.
- Pros: Great atmosphere, good vibe, cool people
- Cons: Service
Best Smelling Bar in NYC
by bellavale
I agree with everything the other users wrote. Nice place, nice bartenders, inventive drinks and the prices were competitive w/other bars, however, The Dove may very well be the BEST smelling bar in NYC. I have no idea how they did it but it has a very fresh and light candle scent, which as anyone knows is next to impossible to maintain in most any bar. I"ll be back for the smell alone! :)
Delicious!!!
by bbsingleton
I was so suprised to find out that the Dove has started serving food!!! And I was even more suprised at how good it was!!! The menu is light with cute things like tea sandwiches and mousse cakes that remind me of having lunch at the Plaza hotel -- it fits perfectly witth the dove's cute atmosphere. They also have unique cheeses to taste and these amazing marcona almonds that are totally addictive! The menu is pretty small and simple but with really sophisticated ingredients. And of course, everything goes well with all their fantastic red wines...
- Pros: Delicious snacks, wines, and decor!
- Cons: Can be crowded on weekends
I love this bar so much!!!
by lala12
I think this is my new favorite bar! So cute inside! Great music! And very friendly staff, which is rare in New York CIty! There is no pretension here, just great atmosphere and great cocktails and wine. Had such a good time at their happy hour that I forgot my wallet which had a bunch of cash in it! they went above and beyond to contact me and I actually got my wallet back with absolutely nothing missing! So refreshing to be so well taken care of during and after my visit to the Dove.
- Pros: awesome staff, music, drinks, decor
- Cons: Can't think of any cons!
BEWARE! Charged other people's drinks and food to my tab! Overpriced!
by happyhourluva
DO NOT OPEN A TAB HERE. PAY CASH. Went here for Happy Hour with a few close friends. Found it odd when one friend left with only a $12 bar tab after 3 hours of drinking and eating. Only later to find out that not only had her drinks and food been put on my tab, but additionally another $81. Instead of taking off these charges, they ran my credit card thru twice resulting in me getting charged around $200. BEWARE! Make sure you keep an eye on your tab, or you too might end up paying for a bunch of strangers night of fun! DO NOT GO HERE!
- Pros: NONE
- Cons: OVERPRICED, WATCH YOUR TAB!
