HORRIBLE!

by CSam

First of all, my friend was looking for places to host her birthday party in the city. Very unfortunately, she chose Boss Tweed. If she had ever seen this place before booking it, she would have never done it. This bar looks like an old man's bar located in the lower east side, nothing special. You can probably find better bars in Long Island and not travel all the way for this bar. My friend had about 30-40 poeple arriving at 11pm for the open bar, but because of the poorly organized line outside of the bar, it delayed our entrance which went pass our open bar deal for about 35-45mins. The staff were very rude and unfriendly, especially the tall persian male staff with the bald head. There was no organization whatsoever by the staff, we were just forming the line ourselves. The unidentified male staff kept shouting at bar goers in the front of the line and ignored the people in the back of the line. It was just a big unorganized mess. When it was eventually our turn to get in, my boyfriend was denied entrance because he sounded his annoyance to the unidentified male staff. Keep in mind, that male staff was rude to begin with and kept shouting at us and made us wait for unneccessary amount of time because the bar staff themselves were unorganized. I also got a feeling that the bar staff were trying to make the bar seem like a hign-end club rather than a dive bar. To say the least, we didn't even want to go in anymore at that point even the manager had told us we can go in. Instead, we went to Libation down the block and had a great time!! I strongly recommend Libation to anyone who wants to plan birthday party because the staff were very friendly and were very helpful. I hope this helps because this is a very honest feedback.

Great place, great bartenders!

by neonhombre

Well I go to Boss Tweeds almost every 2 or 3 days and the bartenders are great. I understand that some people dont like the service...its you! Alot of people who go into B.T. are arrogant snobs and the bartenders hate that. I have been coming here for the last 4 years and it went from chill to famous. A little word to the wise...dont bring an attitude and you will get great service...wait until the bartender walks up to you and asks you what you want...and they will serve you...is it that hard?! A little bit of manners never hurt anyone!

  • Pros: Who can beat a $5 shot and beer deal?
  • Cons: The people who think they are better than you...

Will never return...

by nyc2283

I would never recommend this bar. The staff is rude and completely unprofessional. My friend bought 2 beers and tipped the bartender after his 3rd round he ran out of cash and was going to head to the ATM to withdraw some more money so he was able to tip her. Before he was able to do so she demanded a tip in a completely demeaning way. When I asked to speak to a manager the only response she gave me was "Is this in regard to your friend not tipping me, well I told my manager and she's on my side." Childish and embarrassing is the only way to describe her behavior. Boss Tweed's may be a great LES bar but watch out for the nasty female bartender!! I would never step foot in there again!

AVOID at all cost!

by Exolitmer

I used to love coming to this bar and always recommended this place to all my friends and family members, but not anymore. A few months ago I came here with my significant other and his friend to take advantage of their $2 beer deals. The bartender charged me $3.50 for a beer and charged them both $2 long after the deal was supposed to be over. Unfortunately, I found this out after the night was over.

A few nights ago, I went back there again with a couple of friends and once again, they randomly charged us for our drinks. My friend, a first timer to this bar, oblivious to the prices paid $40 for two lemon drop shots. Another friend later ordered four lemon drops and was charged only $20. On top of that the owner was incredibly rude and out of line for some of his actions. A friend of mine, who doesn't drink, was kicked out because some stranger apparently bought a small bottle of liquor with him into the bar and sat down next to my friend. Without question, the owner kicked my friend out of the bar. When I asked what happened, I was told that my friend was guilty by association because he was sitting next to the guy. Nevertheless, whoever the person was that "had" the bottle was allowed to remain inside. I know this because when my friend got kicked out, the rest of us left the bar and went after him.

I don't know what had happened to my once favorite bar, but if you enjoy random high price charges, and a terribly rude owner, then this is the place to be. Other than that, don't waste your breath, money, and energy to come here.

Neighborhood Bar, Friendly Bartender, Low-Key Spot

by cobraman332

Boss Tweeds is one of those bars that doesn't really stand out in a crowd. Beers prices? Average. Beer selection? Average. Decor? Average. Bathrooms? Average. Everything about this place screams "average," but is a great place to catch a game on TV or sit at the bar during off-hours and chat with the bartender. If it's not too crowded, they'll usually let you play flipcup in the back... and if that's not your thing, there is a pool table back there also. Behind that is a small outdoor area, which is great for spending some quality drinking time under the sun/stars, without having to wait on a line for a roofdeck bar just to hold a $10 drink in a plastic cup while obnoxious people rub against you for hours. Boss Tweeds could really use a better beer selection, as that would help it stand out from an array of average bars just like it. But as is, I'll still head back there if I am in the neighborhood and looking to just hang out and have some drinks. I suggest you do the same.

  • Pros: Low-Key, Relaxing, Pool Table, Flipcup (sometimes), Outside Area, Friendly Bartender, TVs
  • Cons: Average Beer Selection, Average Decor, Average Prices

Cheesy annoying frat-boy bar

by jenniferw99

This place is a disaster. It is full of 25 year olds trying to cling on to their frat-boy youth, just short of chanting "chug! chug! chug!" (though they probably do) as they play drinking games - trying to get in the pants of the over-partied S*x and the City but not cute enough wannabees they come with. The crowd is horrendously annoying and typical cargo shorts and sandals Connecticut post-grad types who aren't comfortable enough with themselves to go anywhere else on the Lower East Side, though they probably graduate to slighly classier but just as annoying douchefests such as Spitzers. Go back to the Upper East Side, Murray Hill, or, better yet, wherever you came from that instilled that piece of sh*t mentality in the first place.

The employees are also rude and have no regard for their neighbors. My friend used to live upstairs, and that is why I know about this place.

Crazy Fun College-style Bar

by crzyophelia

If you just want to have a good time and drink some beer with friends, come to Boss Tweeds. Pitchers of beer are only 8 bucks, pints are 2 bucks. You can sit outside in an inclosed backyard. They don't serve food but they have delivery menus. Tables are set up for beer pong or flip cup. This place will send you back to college mode if you aint still in it.

Say hi to Matty, the manager, who used to bounce at Finnerty's!!

  • Pros: cheap drinks, fun atmosphere, drinking games
  • Cons: it can get very crowded and the bathrooms are nasty
