Absolutely Wonderful
by KtotheJ
We had a party in the private room downstairs and it was absolutely perfect. We had our own bartender, a private space and great food. Agnes was our bartender and she was 100% accommodating and friendly. When we arrived, our food was already prepared and the room was gorgeous. We bought a few of their party platters, and then our friends drank from the bar. It was very affordable. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to have a wonderful party with good friends. THANK YOU PARIS COMMUNE for making our party such a success. We look forward many more!
- Pros: Private Party Room
Dreadful
by GlobalFruitfly
Stale bread, vinegar for dressing, overcooked fish, rude people.
- Pros: none
- Cons: Bad food and bad service
Love this place!

This is my absolutely #1 favorite place in the West Village. I've been a regular for years, the food is great, service is great, and the decor is fab. There's just a warm vibe in the place, and the Rouge wine bar is a fun place to get a drink.
- Pros: Gingerbread, ambiance
Sort of French

They have something for everyone, unless you're a vegetarian. I've only had dinner and mainly stuck with items from the sea, all of which were fantastic, but the chicken dish I once had was a definite stand-out. Take notice of the photos on the wall.
- Pros: Taste / Ambiance / Date Place
- Cons: No Veg Main Course Options
AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!

I've been to many restaurants in NY, however, this place is just horrible. I came here over the weekend and wish I never would have. The owner has the worst attitude ever. The food was really dreadful as well. The food also took forever to come out and all they wanted to do to compensate me after the whole ordeal was a free dessert. I declined.
- Pros: None.
- Cons: Everything under the roof.
Eh.

We went on Friday night, after I found out about "cutbacks" at my office. Enjoyed a lovely glass of wine with the equally lovely bartender, then moved to a table. The service was great except for our waiter, who seemed uninterested in helping us--though we were his ONLY table for at least an hour.
We had some questions about the wine list, in particular a budget-priced Hungarian white. He couldn't tell us anything about it, went to the bar, came back and told us that the bartender said the wine was pretty much as the menu described it. Hmm. Helpful. So, we went with the even more budget-friend Cotes de Rhone. It was drinkable, but I really would have liked to have spent a few more bucks for something interesting. Minimal salesmanship could have gotten us to order the other.
The food was.....eh. A big eh. I have lived in both France and New York for years, and I don't think I can remember ever being served sliced bagged bread at a "french" restaurant in either location. It wasn't even heated. The appetizers (basically baked cheeses on salad) were fine. I mean, you can deep-fry brie and please just about anyone. Entrees=disaster. I went simple with the poulet frites. The chicken was terribly overcooked, and the fries were pathetic. Even my date wouldn't eat them, and this man loves himself some fries. Even the salad was sadly dressed. His salmon and couscous was covered with a sweet sauce that I found cloying, and the fish was overcooked too. I spied on tables around us that had ordered off the regular menu--the food looked equally anemic, including the pricier frites.
Dessert was unusually (almost offensively) large, with the pot-de-creme taking the prize over the limp, unheated apple tart. The coffee we ordered was so burnt that I could smell it before it had even left the waiter's tray. GROSS.
The only time I saw a flash of genuine human interest from our waiter was when he realized that I -- not my date -- would be paying. Pathetic.
- Pros: Nice space, bar
- Cons: Table service, lack of interest, anemic food
French Restaurant-Nice Atmosphere
by skinnyguy99
I took my girlfriend here before a pretty big broadway show. I was off on my timing and we were not going to have enough time to eat. The staff was courteous and quick when it came to serving the food. Everything tasted wonderful, we had some tasty french dishes. I would definitely reccomend this place to anyone. It's really kind of a quiet atmosphere, (not the type of place you go for happy hour). The only thing that might have been off at the time was the selection. The menu really wasn't too large, but all and all I would definitely go back. The food was great.
- Pros: nice atmosphere, nice location, good food
- Cons: unless they've changed the menu, not too large of a selection, not too much room for large parties

Not going back
by kzp315
I?ve only send back food twice in my life, this became the 3rd. I ordered the ?special? surf & turf. Food was cold, lobster was mushy. I asked my friend to try a bite and see if it was just me?he proceeded to take a bite and immediately took it out mouth in a napkin confirming my initial feeling. The waiter took back the dish and asked if I would like to order something else, I was starving so ordered the pasta?a ?safe bet?. After adding a several dashes of salt, I ate all the noodles, and left everything else it came with on the plate. My friend ordered the other ?special? which was described as sea bass on a tomato souffle. It came out looking like 3 mushy pieces of fish on some can chopped tomatoes. (and apparently tasted like it too) She swapped it with another person from our dinner party. After the entree debacle, the waiter advised they wanted to comp me and my friend dessert. We both passed, then he upped the offer to 3 desserts for the table. The rest of the group took the offer, and did not finish dessert. If you want to eat some French bistro food, you're better off heading to French Roast which is a fair place but beats this place any day... Sorry Paris Commune, but you get an D in my book.

Paris Commune on top again!
by astoria0408
I found Paris Commune about 9 years ago when it was just a tiny little spot on a few blocks away, serving a pleasant little brunch in a comfy atmosphere. Things have changed a little when they moved into their new space a few blocks away. Like many moves quality suffered, inconsistencies abound and service was deplorable. On a recent visit this weekend we found that things have changed a little and realized how small this city truly is. We were presented a new menu very different then what Paris Commune use to have but it still maintained some of their classics. There was a beautiful drawing of a seductive lady on the back that compliments the atmosphere. There were some new faces and the plesant ones from the past. Then at the bottom of the menu complete with a new Executive Chef. This is where life becomes a little interesting for me at least their new Executive Chef is Carl Butcho. The son of the mega developer and coal tycoon who's offspring shares the same name. This guy also owns a restaurant and hotel consultancy and did a lot of work for one of my business partners. He is very specific and tough and has a strong reputation for turning businesses around, at a ridiculously high rate. We speculated that he was lending his name for the businesses sake. Regardless of any of that you can see a lot of that changes. The menu now has a wide range of choices. I had an espresso steak with a sauce flavored with anise that had the most delicious potato au gratin and my wife had their veal that was sauteed with an assortment of artichokes and other vegetables that was unlike anything we were use to from this place. Perfectly tender fresh and thoughtful. Paris Commune was always a safe place to go for good food. Now it is a great place to go for a true culinary adventure. The menu we were told will change with the seasons. With the power of Mr. Butchos pallet commissioned Paris Commune is most likely assured wild success. Its the best decision they have made in a while.
- Pros: Amazing Food, very welcoming!
- Cons: Drinks came a little slow.
